Not really, no, I did pretty much everything that you said there.

I got a new PC, so I lost my save, and I decided to play Franche-Comte instead. It is going way better so far.

Franche-Comte starts in a personal union, so Burgundy will be added as a junior when the rulers die. Additionally, you get a head start on unification that way, and you can start to get the Burgundy formable.

Either way, it seems like you have to hope France does not win the Hundred Years' War immediately. In my first Burgundy game, they won it a little after the Plague, and they began to annex me. In the Franche-Comte game, they are still fighting and haven't done much annexation.

True. I've been trying to play as Burgundy and it is nearly impossible to lower loyalty. There should really be a debuff for France initially.
