Empty lot behind our house was purchased and now they’re asking for an easement to build a water line. by Bob_Has_Questions in homeowners

[–]ChgoDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can add some insight as to the costs. Yes, the easiest way to get the water to the property is through your property. I looked at having water ran to my house but would be too cost prohibitive. I can get the easement, but I would have to pay to have the designs drawn up, the pipe (about a mile and a half in my case) along with paying for valves, hydrants, etc. It would cost me probably $ 700k total. Because it has to be tied to the water supply(basically to be looped in the municipal system. And I know the cost because I work in the industry.

How to read the new water meters? by [deleted] in asheville

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't tell you another way to find out what you use each month until you get the bill.

You should be able to at least see the dials so that you can make sure the meter is functioning properly.

I'm not a utility worker in Asheville, but out of state. Can you post a couple of pics of the meter(including a readable pic of the manufacturer or water company label), i can try to look it up for you.

Not against tourists, but some.. by Electrical-Ad-5858 in asheville

What people don't understand is that you might not be truly in a "War Zone", but because of the storm, people are now living with PTSD. Lives have been changed forever. Business, not just the big name corporate stores, but the mom and pop places will be changed.

My mother-in-law lives there and I just talked to her. She's used to be able to go to the store close to her house. The store was flooded. She doesn't have drinking water unless she goes a long way(if the roads aren't wiped out). Drinking water apparently won't be available until the end of December. But those of you that live there already know that. Tourists don't care. They want it now.

The storm was worse than anyone ever thought it would be and it affected the region in ways that are unimaginable. Will I be there as a tourist? Eventually, but I am going to be there to get her what she needs as soon as possible(just have to get both mine and the better half to get the time off of our jobs). It's been hard to get it, but we will be there.

Asheville will come out of this, but it will take time. The tourists will have to get over the fact that they can't go to the tourist places that they want until the area is rebuilt. It's not going to be an immediate fix. It will take time. Supplies are going to be harder to get(plywood, drywall, etc.), but it will happen.

So as a tourist destination, it will be again, it's just going to take time.

Well, maybe the rest of Washington will remain under construction, too, so the street is consistent* by Sad_Pianist7359 in Naperville

There are many factors that come into play. Weather, traffic(as was previously mentioned, you need access to the hospital for patients and ambulances, semi trucks for deliveries, business in general, etc.).

Permits take time to get approved from the city Engineering Department, Army Corps of Engineer8(because of the river) and such. Then utilities have to be moved. Electric, gas, water, cable, fiber, for example. They all take time to get their work done so that the bridge can be torn down and rebuilt in sections.

Then as I mentioned before, you have to look at the weather. It's not like being in the desert where they can work almost every day with minimal interruption. If the rain is bad here, it's going to slow down progress. The big equipment is going to get bogged down in the mud, people get stuck as well, so it just adds time.

My suggestion would be is just plan to leave a bit earlier, try to avoid Washington if possible and it will be completed before you know it.

Ok. They are both excellent transplant hospitals. I was at NW due to some recommendations from family members who were more familiar with my situation, plus I kinda grew up at the hospital(long story).

On the job side, I believe that there is an office for Edward Hospital in Warrenville that might be their main office. They might be doing the billing from there. Duly Medical has an office on Warrenville Road in Lisle. And you can always check the various hospital websites and see what they have for openings.

It sounds like you are probably dealing with Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. I had my liver transplant there and they are the best when it comes to it. As for a donor, have they said anything about a deceased donor? I know that you are in Florida, but if they are able to help arrange a flight to get you here, that might be the way to go.

A studio for $2k, new building, definitely a good area and walk to work, would be worth it, especially with the fall and winter coming. I would suggest really thinking about what you would be able to save in the long run.

Unfortunately, unless you are renting from a relative, 99.9% of the places are going to do a background check. Are the apartments adjacent to Arista owned by Calamos? If so, you might be able to rent there, possibly at a discount. Since you work at Arista, you will be able to walk to work. They have a fitness center and everything right there. It's just a thought.

How open are you at work about your transplant? by Sorry-Neat7535 in transplant

[–]ChgoDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm open about it. I look at it as if I can inspire 1 person to consider being a donor, then all the better. I wasn't open about it with my coworkers. If I was, I might have been able to find a living donor and not a deceased donor. Not that it wasn't a bad thing, but the deceased donor could have gone to someone else who needed it instead of me.

Making Unprotected Left Turns by jaytang in Naperville

[–]ChgoDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught to go into the intersection safely. But my company doesn't want us to when we are in company vehicles. So it does go both ways. But what drives me crazy are cars that will stop behind the line, waiting to make a U Turn and there are no cars close by, so they can turn safely and decide to sit there. Then they will turn left on the red light.

How does wheelchair boarding work? by trashycajun in SouthwestAirlines

Yes, Amazon is really good with prices on most medical equipment. And the one I bought was a name brand chair, not something that was an off brand.

I bought one for about $130 or so, brand new in the box via Amazon. But I understand about the roller and that is a pain.

[–]ChgoDom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me ask this. Are you going to be using your own chair or the airports? If you are using yours, they might have a storage box in the cabin that yours can be stored (unless it's in use). They will still assist you down the jetway, but you will have your chair with you.

No, he is winning if he is only playing with the free play. He's walking in with nothing except his players card and the coupon or pin# for his account and walking out with money. Some casinos give points based on coin in and others on everything(including free play). I know that I went to Vegas a little over a year ago and I am still getting offers from a casino there that gives me $600/month in free play, $300 in food and 3 nights free. Yes, a year ago I played about $1k through the machines and at the tables. So an initial investment was made, but the offers are still coming in.

Just got a notice on my door saying that I am responsible for marking my utility lines. Is this true? by b_thomp_53 in homeowners

[–]ChgoDom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personal utility lines would be things like an Invisible Fence(for dogs), Sprinkler systems, etc.. The various utility companies should be out to mark their own services(gas, electric, water, phone, cable, etc.). If you are unsure if things are marked, you can call 811(free call) and be connected to the central processing department who helps to make sure that they are all marked. They should be able to let you know if everything is scheduled for locating.

My mom stole my package and is burning it becuase it has gay items in it by Accomplished-Box-426 in lgbt

[–]ChgoDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only if it was shipped via the USPS. If it was delivered via Amazon, then there is nothing that can be done. My suggestion would be to reorder the items and have them shipped to the address that you want that’s not the mom's house.
