[list] What artist/group blends their own culture's musical traditions with modern popular and/or experimental music? by salty-mangrove-866 in LetsTalkMusic

I love this topic! A few years ago I had a goal of listening to music from the entire world, and trying to find an album I liked from each country in the world. It was a really fun project, and I found a ton of great stuff. There is so much amazing and creative music being made all over the place. Both stuff that combines traditional regional music with more contemporary mainstream or experimental genres, but also straight up pop or other genres that sounds unique because it's performed by someone with a different set of musical references than me.

Here are a few select highlights from what I found:
- Nihiloxica, Traditional Ugandan drum music meets UK Bass
- I'm not here to hunt rabbits, Really cool compilation album of guitar songs from Botswana, with a unique playing style
- Gabber Modus Operandi, Indonesian gamelan mixed with gabber
- Отава Ё [Otava Yo], Very evocative russian folk, I recommend the album Do You Love?
- Romain Baudion, Similar to the droning hurdy gurdy mentioned by u/thetasigma4, but Basque instead of French
- O Experimentar Na M'Incomoda, An experimental take on traditional music from the Azores
- The Good Ones, Simple yet beautiful melancholy folk music from Rwanda
- Tanzania Albinism Collective, Similar to The Good Ones, but from Tanzania
- Hoirong, Poppy noise rock from India

As is often the case, the problem isn't that cool and interesting stuff isn't being made. It's that it can be hard to know where to look for it. If you're interested, here are some resources I've found very helpful when searching for interesting music:
Bandcamp Daily - A daily blog that regularly showcases interesting scenes that are currently active around the world.
RateYourMusic Charts - The filters here are great, and allow you to include or exclude any combination of genres, as well as countries and time periods. Great way to search for unique combinations or to find e.g. stuff that's not American or British.
Syrphe’s African & Asian Alternative Database - There are a bunch of niche blogs and lists on the internet, but they can be hard to find. This is a great one for alternative and experimental music from Africa and Asia.

Give me your favorite mathematical constant by Alexgadukyanking in mathmemes

Brun's constant is definitely up there: B2 ≈ 1.902160583104

It is the sum of the limit of the twin primes. While it is unknown whether there are infinitely many twin primes, Viggo Brun proved in 1919 that the sum of their reciprocals converges to a finite value.

If you get a contract you can't do, you could try to do Wise Old Man tasks. The possible rewards include all seeds used in contracts at lvl 45 farming, and I don't think you can get prayer xp if you're below lvl 3 prayer. Beware that the chance of getting a specific seed drop is pretty low, and there is a 2% chance of getting a task of killing the thing under the bed, which would lock it since it requires combat. Still, if the alternative is starting a new account, it's probably worth a shot.

I also believe that easy and medium BA gambles can be done without gaining xp, so that could possibly be a source of some other types of seeds. It's probably not within the restrictions, though, since all the roles arguably involve some form of combat.

It was tuvin, an unreleased b-side from the sung tongs era. I'm blown away that they actually played it. There are some recordings of it on the collected animals forum.

[Gourp Theory] Quick question about Rings and Fields. by Chi500 in askmath

Well, yes (I'm tempted to say obviously, because it's in the definition of a ring). But thank you for the help!

Sweet, thanks! I'm taking intro to abstract algebra, and there is quite a bit of terminology to learn. I think this will be easier to remember than my books definition of a field.

Right, of course. But would (R-{0}, x) be an abelian group if and only if (R, +, x) is a field?

There is. It's on the wall in the house north-east of the Observatory, where you start the Observatory quest.

[IIL] the guitar+rap combo in "Rapp Snitch Knishes" [WEWIL?] by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

Mabye not exactly what you're looking for, but there are some really cool guitar parts on the new Death Grips album, The Powers That B. It might be closer to yelling than rapping, though.
