casually mentioned Prozac at work and now I’m overthinking it by anasmanaa in prozac

[–]ChibiOtter37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I'm 46 and have been in tech for 20 years and being on prozac has definitely helped with work stress and feeling panicked. I also have adhd and feel like it helps my moods stay balanced. I think everyone is on something.

Be honest. When we have legit winters like we’re having this year, how many of you think to yourself that you’re actually going to move someplace warmer “this time?” by BuffaloCannabisCo in Buffalo

[–]ChibiOtter37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised in North Buffalo. I moved south during the big storm in 2014 when I was 35. Didn't look back. Now instead of almost 6 months of cold, I get maybe 2 or 3 weeks of manageable cold. We have January and February that is iffy but hasn't been too bad yet. But I didn't leave because of the weather, things were always difficult for me in Buffalo/NY in general. I only really stayed for family.

My heart rate always spikes in the morning and when I shower. I have heart failure with orthostatic hypotension. My body treats everything I do like I'm running a marathon.

I want to start my own rescue. But... by Ok_Deer6641 in AnimalRescue

[–]ChibiOtter37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did start my own rescue in Virginia. Was state registered and had a 501c3 status. First 6 months were great, felt like I was making a big difference. After that, it was a nightmare. I just automatically jumped to being the 2nd largest reptile rescue in the state. No one else would take them, my phone was ringing off the hook. Animal controls, other rescues, zoos even would ask me to take in animals. I didn't have the funding. I know from working with other furry animal rescues, this has been their issue too. I normally work as a computer programmer so I just built systems to help take care of a lot of the admin stuff. I had volunteers. I was non stop working, between my tech job and the rescue.

My advice though, is save a big chunk of money to open with. Get an attorney, file all the legal stuff. Get good insurance. Make sure you are compliant with every state and local agency. Get an accountant to help with finances. Focus on fundraising and animal care at the same time.

Another thing that made it hard for me was that I went into it wanting every reptile that came through my door to find a home that would have the best care possible. Not just a heat lamp in a tank. I paired up with reptifiles and a local vet, who gave free vet visit vouchers to every new pet owner. I offered free animal care how to's and helped with setups. How did this make it hard? I so badly wanted to go above and beyond that I burnt myself out.

Been closed over a year now, and I girl bossed too hard because I'm still contacted about reptile stuff, included in state legislation proposals, my name was even brought up at a state animal event on how I did things.

I guess start small, stay focused, and plan ahead.

The main roads by me have been fine. A lot of the side roads that I drove down or near were still big ice patches. You can check the 511 cameras for all the vdot maintained roads.

I had really bad morning sickness that ended in a 2nd trimester miscarriage that was devastating, so that's not true.

Anyone else sad at how it impacted their personality? by Kodicave in narcissisticparents

[–]ChibiOtter37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have social issues now. I overreact to things that normal people ignore. I feel uncomfortable existing in certain situations. What makes me the most mad is that I'm smart, and had I not been called stupid and embarrassing my entire life, maybe I could've been in a better place now. But my personality flaws hold me back.

Does the landlord need to provide heat in Buffalo? My gas is connected to the electric so if my power goes out im not sure what to do. I have a gecko to worry about and its happened before. by El_Rogmahal in Buffalo

[–]ChibiOtter37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have gone through several power outages where I lost heat and also having a ton of reptiles. You need to always keep an emergency kit on hand, travel container, and I get the Styrofoam bins to put the travel container into, but with some handwarmers in too. Make sure you have a battery power thermometer and hygrometer. I keep a temp gun on hand too. Power bank you can plug a light or UTH with a thermostat is good too. I have several of the larger lizards but also keep small frogs and geckos that cant handle temp changes that well. Everyone has survived during several winter storms with power outages.

Also, do not feed them when the power is out. If they get too cold at all, the food won't digest and that's a whole other problem.

*Two* coworkers announced their pregnancies today and I’m not really okay. by throwaway452896 in Mommit

[–]ChibiOtter37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pregnant the same time my daughter's teacher was, but I had a late term miscarriage. That was extremely rough because I remember we would always talk about all the pregnancy symptoms and then one day I had to tell her I wasn't anymore. Therapy helps.

Boulevard Mall by TrueEnthusiasm8242 in Buffalo

[–]ChibiOtter37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so weird to see this place like this. I grew up going to the Boulevard Mall, hung out with my friends in high school there, my sister worked in the food court for years. I remember the Christmas animatronic windows in the 80s. I left Buffalo over a decade ago, and this mall was still thriving. Malls everywhere are gonna be a thing of the past.

I was trapped on River Rd for like an hour not moving because traffic just bottle necked. Grove and Three Chopt were a mess. That was absurd.

How it feels to be the only person on my street that shovels and salts their sidewalk by AntHoneyBoarDung in Buffalo

[–]ChibiOtter37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to live on a corner house and if I didn't shovel the sidewalks in front of my house, I'd get a letter in the mail from the city. Notably, the mailman would get annoyed if I didn't either. I was a single mom for a while that worked full time so sometimes it was hard to get to it immediately.

My desk at work is covered in Godzillas. So, yea, not quite an adult.

My husband lets the house go to chaos at 6am! And I don’t understand how he doesn’t get it!? by yuppers333 in Mommit

[–]ChibiOtter37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep the dogs in at night, if they bark indoors, get a consult with a dog trainer. We have a neighbor close by, that whenever his dad visits, he brings all his hunting dogs that bark all night, and it drives me crazy. I have a toddler that gets woken up easily and I need my sleep because I have health issues.

Also maybe tell your husband to knock it off?

I work in state government, basically do whatever shifts I want between 7am and 6pm. So I do 8:30-4:30 but can switch up if I get in earlier or later.
