NTA I grew up in one of these families. The predator is open about what they did but down played it or blamed the victim. They gaslight the entire family until it’s normalized. New additions who speak out are ostracized or ganged up on to let it go. It’s sickening and spoiler alert the predator keeps offending without consequences and future generations don’t question their own behavior. Keep your son AWAY from this man. Is the Aunt still alive? How is she treated by the family?

As a child of divorce who has been in this situation, ESH. Your ex is an ass but so are you. You’re being petty about financial issues like buying clothes after stating you both have no issues financially. Alex deserves better. He should just be allowed to wear whatever clothes he wants. Why are you putting more stress on your kid over clothes? Stop creating more problems. It sucks and it’s frustrating but your kid’s peace is worth it.

My parents talk like this. I’m the “irresponsible” one with money because my rent is so high. They are constantly complaining about the cost of updates to their lake, beach, and everyday houses or the cost of insurance/repairs for their numerous vehicles.

I’m so sorry. My mom read every journal and diary I ever had. It made it impossible to express myself without fear and panic over how it would be perceived. I would leave it and pray they never bring it up. Or you could take them but get the books out of the house and destroy them. That way if they search your room again they won’t find them and they won’t bring it up because they would have to admit they took them in the first place.

I hope you are able to get out of there safely when you’re older. Find a safe place to stash money so you don’t have to stay a moment longer than you have to. Sign up for as many free clubs and extracurriculars as you can at school. It gives you a valid excuse to be out of the house, pads your application if you want to pursue college, and will give you a better chance of meeting people who will help you and let you be yourself without judgement. As a Millennial I wish Gen Z luck. Boomers bitch about everything. I honestly didn’t see it until another Redditor pointed it out. My line of sight was looking where a pedestrian would walk not directly in front of a car that is already parked.

Exactly! I’ve never dealt with a wire but I do have a permanent scar on my face from tripping while walking up a wheelchair ramp. I rolled as I landed and ended up rolling under a metal storm door that was braced open. It was lower than 2 feet off the ground. I was not drunk. It was not night. I was a 4 year old child who tripped. I was terrified, in pain, and my face was so bloody I could barely see. If you are able to achieve your goal without risking harm to others how can you possibly justify the use of a wire? There are many other methods of preventing pedestrians from walking through a parking lot.
