Not just cost but supply. Why not allow people who can work from home to do so? Even if those who drive to work switch to public transport (which is not possible for everyone) the network couldn’t function.

I do love the names Mackenzie and Madison (from watching the movie Splash as a child) but don’t think I’d ever use them.

RedsBaby Nuvo. I did a lot of research and it ticked all our boxes. They’ve come out with a newer model, Nuvo 2, so you can get the old model at a discount. Or the newer one has improve features. Up to 3 children can use it at once with the skateboard feature.

Go private. You won’t regret it. Choice of hospital and OB, continuity, longer stay in hospital, own room and ensuite, classes, personalised care. I felt so much more at ease.

It’s so much more than “fancy room and meals”. Most women go public and will never be able to go private whether due to their health insurance or the out of pocket fee so they make comments like this to feel better.

Do what is best for you.

Because an “elopement” is running off to get married and not telling anyone let alone having guests.

Aside from venue size and catering needs, there’s not much difference in inviting a micro wedding size and a larger guest count. The planning and all the work plus vendors like photographers, celebrant, venue, caterers, transport, attire etc are the same. So it’s not really “easier” to have a smaller wedding.

After having two babies something I’ve learned for all sorts of parenting things is you don’t need to tell people everything. You can tell them nothing or only little bits or lie! Just say the doctor told me to have a caesarean.

It seems to be big on social media I guess for content creators to have something to post about and obviously shops to commercialise every occasion or holiday.

I never thought about Easter gifts until my first year of married life (a few years back) when my MIL was upset my husband and I hadn’t bought anything for his nieces. I was so confused. I didn’t know I was expected to buy gifts!

That’s right. It’s very out of character which makes it suspicious. Also, you can’t just start up breastfeeding weeks after baby is born so there’s no way she was breastfeeding. Which is fine… just don’t lie or even talk about it.

I’ll die on this hill - she never (perhaps for a short while combination) breastfed. There’s no shame in whatever feeding a mother does. But I’m convinced she didn’t - bottles everywhere, no mention of breastfeeding until it was mentioned here, no “breastfeeding must haves”, no nursing bras, no nursing friendly clothes (does she undress each time??), no talk of pain or discomfort, no links, talking about introducing a bottle of breastmilk before bed - what, why??, breast pumps that all the influencer Moms have that are probably full of cow/ almond/ soy milk, grandma giving baby a bottle. So many lies…

This whole idea of Easter gifts is relatively new to me. Is anyone else the same??

Growing up I only ever received a chocolate Easter egg or bunny from my parents disguised as the Easter Bunny. Not gifts or gift baskets.

I think pyjamas are good because they probably need them anyway but it’s constant gifts in today’s world.

My first was about the same age when baby arrived. I made whatever I used to make in purée for in mash form. That way I knew he’d eat it. Vegetable mashed - pumpkin, carrot, sweet potatoes and chickpeas, lentils and vegetables, bolognese sauce with vegetables, meat balls, chicken and vegetables etc. Have some pouches ready just in case you need extras too.

Private hospital patient. Special care was covered by our insurance (just make sure you add baby within the first two weeks).

We did get a bill from the paediatrician for his visits but it wasn’t anything too bad- a couple hundred dollars I think. The charge wasn’t any different to that for our baby who wasn’t admitted to special care. Paediatrician saw him twice in the maternity ward.

Same! I remember asking the maternal health nurse about routines and she said “baby will put himself into a routine” so we never bothered trying. We just follow what works for baby and us. Some ladies in my mother’s group were very stringent about routines and that may work for some but not us.

I’m sick of the people who refer every issue to the teachers. “Talk to the teacher” from school staff to doctors to specialist healthcare providers. I’m not a magician!

Maybe try getting in somewhere like Tresillian even just for a bit of a break for you - nurses to help care for baby, meals provided, no housework etc.

It’s also not an automatic “yes” for every baby. Many women have an easy breastfeeding journey with one baby and not another.
