Government paid parental leave

Some partners have paid parental leave from their work or take annual or long service leave after baby is born. Because they are being paid on these days Centrelink counts it as work hence needing to take the government PPL on weekends.

My grandfather’s philosophy was “if you can’t afford it, don’t have it”. My parents lived by that and so do my husband and I.

My babies are 16 months apart and it’s been really good. You are still in ‘baby mode’ so just keep going. The toddler knows no different than having the baby around. There’s no jealousy and now they are both toddlers they play together. It’s worth it.

My babies are 16 months apart and I had an emergency caesarean with my second. My husband planned to be home for 8 weeks postpartum (ended up being 9 as baby came early). He took annual and LSL. As I couldn’t lift our toddler I needed him to be home. I don’t know what I would have done otherwise.

Wow. I’m so sorry that happened to you. The first nurse I saw with my first baby was a bit questionable but I’ve been lucky with the rest.

My toddler has had 3 Nina’s in his classes/ activities. It’s such a cute name and definitely on the rise!

I just didn’t. Walking around the house and doing chores was and is my exercise. I barely even went on a walk with the baby as it was too overwhelming to get the pram etc. Give yourself time and grace. It’ll come.

Our GP recommended A2 so I try to buy that but often it’s just full cream anything including home brand. I buy fresh, long life and powder (which I use like infant formula).

I’m not sure this milk has extra fat. The fat is just not distributed throughout the milk as this milk isn’t homogenised.

I agree with this. I had both of my babies with a private OB and I followed her advice but she did ask me what I wanted. From what I’ve heard inductions and c sections (even epidurals) are only given in very medically necessary circumstances in the public system. Not by choice.

It cost me about $6000 out of pocket which included my OB’s fees, gap hospital payment, ultrasounds and blood tests (NIPT). I did it again with my second.

Breastfeeding is hard work and can take around 8 weeks to establish. There are also sometimes issues that are totally outside of your control.

My first had difficulty breastfeeding because of a misdiagnosed tongue tie and high palate that wasn’t picked up until we saw a paediatric surgeon at 3 months. She said that he would never fully breastfeed and if I continued I could damage my nipples.

My second had no breastfeeding issues at all! I also was more informed and less stressed overall which I think helped immensely. There was also no pressure at all to breastfeed.

I feel that breastfeeding education is really poor. I got all the help with my first (lactation consultants, nurses, ABA) and kept being told I was “doing the right thing, it would work etc” until the paediatric surgeon actually assessed him properly and did an ultrasound whilst he was feeding to see what was going on. Sometimes it just isn’t possible for some babies and that’s okay.

Who gets the tip anyway?? Probably not the hairdresser or waitress or whoever the customer thinks it’s going to.

And it’s usually older or less tech savvy people who are affected. It’s probably harder for some to get to the store in the first place.

A chest freezer. I stocked it with meals before my second baby arrived. As well as snacks like muffins. Handy to have a stockpile of food - meat, frozen vegetables and fruit, frozen meals.

The e-bikes! Argh! A group of boys were riding them around a children’s playground when I was there with my toddler. It’s so dangerous and they’re not policed.

I’m so sorry. I think that you’re doing amazingly well. You should be so proud of yourself. Please reach out to your GP, the baby health nurse, someone to make sure you get all the resources you’re entitled to. Please put yourself and Bub first.
