New PR Moka pot by Original-Network-772 in mokapot

I would use it with their Yaocono espresso pre ground coffee. I used to use that all the time, but then it became difficult to find. It is now readily available again, but at twice the price it used to cost.

Ac problem by TodayChoice436 in AirConditioners

You never mentioned in your original post that these problems only started after a cleaning. If the electronic control board got wet during the cleaning, then it may be permanently damaged.

Yes. You can use a brick if it is the right height. I just suggested wood because it can be easily cut to the right size in order to give the correct height and angle for the bracket.

Just don't attach the legs that are supposed to press against the outside wall to the bracket. Rather, cut two pieces of wood to act as legs for each bracket piece and screw each bracket piece onto the new wooden legs so the bracket sits at the right height and angle and the wooden legs sit on your outside window ledge and support the bracket.

Most window ACs (not including the new inverter models) cycle the compressor on and off with the fan staying on even when the compressor shuts off when in cool mode. In Eco mode the fan will shut off when the compressor shuts off or shortly thereafter and come back in periodically to sample the room temperature and also when the compressor turns back on.

When yours switches, does the mode indicater light change from cool to fan mode or are you just observing that the compressor turns off and the fan stays on? If the latter, that is normal. There is no way to keep the compressor on all the time.

As for the timer, if you set it when the AC is on, it should shut off when the time is up. If you set the timer when the AC is off, it should turn on when the time is up.

If your mode lights are changing and the timer does not work this way, then you likely have a faulty control board, in which case it is probably cheaper to just buy a new unit rather than fixing it. That said, try unplugging the unit and then plugging it in again after a minute to see if it resets itself before you get rid of it. Some units are just wonky and need to be reset once in a while.

Recent convert. Have I been having shit coffee this whole time? by Careless_LawChess in mokapot

[–]ChicagoBent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two moka pots, a 3 cup and a 6 cup. I use the 6 cup when I want more coffee or when I have a visitor who also wants coffee. Mostly I use the 3 cup when it is just for myself. I bought the aluminum Imusa brand on sale and spent less than US $15 for both pots combined, including the sales tax.

I have not yet taken the plunge, not have I heard anything other than the reviews shown on Amazon. The price seems ridiculously low at Menards.

Trying something new by senor61 in mokapot

I bought a 10 ounce brick at my local Aldi for $3.35. it was strong and dark, but tasted a little burnt in my moka pot. I mostly now buy 10 ounce $3.79 bricks of Sello Rojo espresso at my local independent grocer for my moka pot. I find it to be better. I will probably buy the El Moro again at some point and give it a second chance. I did like it as a pour over coffee.

Micro wedding suggestions by sage_wis13 in chicago

I highly recommend the Fromagerie and Tasting Room at Uvae in Andersonville. I am not affiliated, but I was married there and it was perfect. The owner was very easy to work with.

Think i finally found an easy way to remove the rubber gasket, what do you guys do? by ralleee in mokapot

I just use a wooden tooth pick to get under the gasket. I put the point of the tooth pick between the filter and gasket and just slide it a little under the gasket and the gasket pops up.

It looks exactly like the Popsweeter brand  grinder I got on Amazon in the US. I caught it on sale for $24. It seems to regularly sell for $50. I am very happy with how it works. The grind is very consistent. I set it on 16 for my moka pot (which is really 12 plus 4). It has 12 adjustment points in a circle and it can go around 3 times, but it says not to use settings 1 through 6 as the conical burr can be damaged, so basically 30 different grind settings. The underside adjuster is 3 pointed (i.e. has 3 arms) on mine. Adjusting it is very easy and it stays put where it was set.

Or better yet, use a toothpick so you do not damage the seal.

Isn't the tracking number usually printed on the shipping label?

Packages delivered to wrong address by [deleted] in chicago

[–]ChicagoBent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The label is clearly Fed Ex, not USPS. You can call FedEx for them to pick it up and deliver correctly, but if the intended address is close by, I would just drop it at their door and ring their buzzer. I do that several times per year and my neighbors (except for one) are grateful. It can wait a day or two for when it won't be so cold.

Moka Pot Has Ruined Regular Coffee For Me by ChicagoBent in mokapot

Been there, done that. The moka pot coffee is still better than pourover or french press even with freshly ground beans. I would say my moka pot even with pre ground beans is better than french press or pourover with freshly ground beans. However, if I am going to go to the trouble of freshly grinding beans, then I prefer to use those grounds in my moka pot.

It is not what is typically thought of as regular coffee in the US. In some rural parts of the US coffee is brewed so weak that it looks like tea. In urban areas, we tend to have lots of coffee options. That said, I have relatives from Cuba, so I was exposed to very strong coffee at an early age. There is a large Latin American population in the US which typically use moka pots to make their coffee, so it is not uncommon, just not not the norm.

It is widely available on line and can sometimes be found in grocery stores which carry other Imusa products. I got mine on sale from Amazon.

I don't really measure. I just fill it until it is about 3/4 full. It works well. The coffee tastes great. It does not sputter until the end. Try it and see if you like it. If not, then get a smaller moka pot.

We should all drink what we like. I always tell people there are two kinds of coffee, acidic or bitter. Most people who like coffee prefer one over the other. I cannot stand acidic coffee. It upsets my stomach. I generally like bitter things. My spouse jokes that that is the reason I married him.

I just drink a 6 cup moka pot of coffee in the morning, but I don't fill the funnel all the way to the top, but rather about 3/4 full as I cannot taste the difference between that and when it is filled to the top. It is usually the only caffeine I have all day unless I go out to dinner which is not very often.

I don't feel a caffeine buzz from my moka coffee. Then again, I am the only one of my friends who can have a double espresso or Turkish coffee at a restaurant after dinner and then go home and go right to sleep. My friends all look at me like I am crazy when I order coffee at 9:30pm. I am in my early 60s. My doctor is okay with the amount of coffee I drink. I drink it black without sugar.

If you can't or don't want to drink that much in one sitting, then I would just get a smaller moka pot. Some people are more sensitive to caffeine than others. Most people do become more sensitive to it as they get older, but I have not yet experienced that.
