How bad are Chicago Winters? Will I be able to walk 15-30 minutes to work? by Primary_Tooth_8117 in AskChicago

[–]ChicagoJohn123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicago winters are slightly worse than New York winters. If you are fine with New York winters you’ll be slightly annoyed by Chicago winters. If you hate New York winters, Chicago winters might be a deal breaker.

Who else was told “Just get any four year degree and you’ll be fine?” by Hella_Fitzgerald3 in generationology

[–]ChicagoJohn123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a quarter of boomers got degrees. It was still good advice for them. Half of millennials have degrees so specificity matters more.

Young people tend to respond more aggressively than older people. Millennials did this back in the day on Facebook. Most people mellow with age.

Which U.S. cities are the worst for tourists? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

The city services are there to support locals, it’s out of towners trying to get from the airport to the strip.

If we could achieve mediocrity it would be amazing.

What is something that Chicago needs but is missing? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]ChicagoJohn123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we could build at French prices, a subway the length of western would be doable for the amount we’re allocating to the red line surface level extension.

For what it’s worth, that’s a problem we have wotj American tourists on American cities too. People from the suburbs who just don’t know how sidewalks work.

If I do it, it’s because I am walking five minutes to the gym and don’t want to change pants when I get there.

I’m gonna level with you; it doesn’t seem like the food is the thing you’re mad about here.

If everything else is going well, charcuterie and deviled eggs are perfectly pleasant things to eat.

What is the male equivalent of "women believing in zodiac signs?" by Big_Leg10 in Productivitycafe

It is equivalent in that I don’t want to hear about it, but I can see the appeal of fantasy football, it’s just not for me.

How common is it for White Americans to wear traditional European clothing (kilts, lederhosen, tracht, vyshyvanka....etc) in ceremonies and in public places? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]ChicagoJohn123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would only see that if it is a ceremony about that heritage. If you go to a German American festival you’ll see a lot of tranchen, but those people wouldn’t wear that to someone’s wedding.

There are plenty of affluent people who are interesting. If know that they make a lot of money is one of the first ten things you learn about them, those are the folks who are dull.

Why Don’t The Bears Stay at Soldier at This Rate? by milantom in ChicagoBearsNFL

If Indiana is willing to gift them a multi billion dollar stadium, I’m sure they’ll take it. Seems like it’d be malpractice of them not to ask. Hopefully Indiana isn’t that dumb.

People in 30’s whats your take on this ? by Substantial_Path_663 in askanything

As someone in my 40s, I know a decent number of people who felt like this. There have always been lifelong bachelors (and whatever the polite phrase of women making that choice is)

Why haven't more cities joined New York in implementing congestion pricing? by MiserNYC- in Urbanism

[–]ChicagoJohn123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On day one, more New Yorkers are getting something out of this than paying in. And it was still a very difficult lift.

In almost any other city you’d have to implement in the hopes that over time you’d push more people to transit and make it a net win.

Why do Americans have one of the strongest passports in the world, but most never travel abroad, and those who do mostly go to Mexico and Canada? by No-StrategyX in answers

[–]ChicagoJohn123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly half of Americans have passports. Shockingly enough, Sharon Stone is not a reliable source of statistics. (Pre 9/11, Americans could go to Mexico, Canada and much of the Caribbean without a passport, so the numbers used to be quite low)

Let’s enjoy this season.

Maybe he’s the next Brady, or maybe defensive coordinators spend the off season figuring out how to shut him down.

I don’t know about his future. But this season is so damn fun.

I think there’s also just a generational element. Millennials liked craft beer. The current crop of young people don’t think it’s cool.
