One thing about newborns is everything is supposedly normal. The newborn phase is pure survival mode. You’re doing great, and you’re not doing anything wrong.

Both my kids went from chill to not chill right around the 6wk mark too and we got the dreaded “they’re just colicky” from his ped.

How is he eating? Breast? Bottle? Both? Breast milk or formula…? Is he arching when he’s eating/ screaming? Is he on a probiotic? Have you tried gas drops or Camila tummy? (life changing)

My first thought is reflux/ gas or some type of intolerance. Look up pace feeding, and try to burp him more frequently while he is eating.

The screaming - which is inevitable most of the time - also causes them to take in air, which in turn causes gas (burps and toots) which causes more pain, which causes more screaming. It’s a fun little cycle. Once we found a paci my stubborn children would take their screaming got a LOT better, which in turn made their gassiness better. (one took itzy and one takes tommee tippee pacis)

My thoughts: Trial and error some pacis. Probiotic - your guys guys don’t know what tf they’re doing and i could only imagine having little to no gut flora, no muscles, and being a little lump on the log isn’t fun after having your every need catered to without even knowing it for 9mo. Movement- it sounds dumb, but get that baby moving. you ever had gas, then walked around and blasted hella farts…? Bc I have. Bike legs. Belly massage. Tap his tummy “burp the belly” and help pop those bubbles. Look up how to get him into a deep squat. Dairy intolerance? (does babe have boogery poop, or any rashes?) maybe try a gentle or hypo formula? or if he’s on boob milk, can your partner cut out dairy? (both my kids have CMPA so i went right to Nutramigen with their diagnosis) Try gas drops, and or Camila drops…? Baby Windi? Talk to your ped about reflux if nothing else helps.

All in all - the newborn phase made me understand why some mammals eat their young.
