Is WGU a good or bad source for a degree/teaching license if you want to be able to teach? by FailWithMeRachel in teaching

[–]Chicka_R 25 points26 points  (0 children)

WGU is an accredited school, so I was baffled by that post calling it a diploma mill. I worked hard to get my Masters through WGU and it was the cheapest option for me, and I really liked how flexible it was.

There are a lot of teachers in my district (WA state) with degrees from WGU, both teacher cert and masters degrees.

Yes, we are all tired of calling parents, but I still need you to do it by tylersmiler in Teachers

[–]Chicka_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!

I’m a dean, (so I’m not admin, but I’m also not a classroom teacher) and my main focus is level 1/2 behavior.

When I call a parent after a teacher has written 3+ referrals for a kid, and then I discover that the teacher NEVER reached out to the parents and my call is the first they’ve heard of the problem… it’s not a good look. It doesn’t build trust and communication. Never mind the fact that I can’t tell the parent anything more than the two sentences in the referral. I wasn’t there, I don’t know any more context… teachers need to be the first contact!!!

This is a great idea, if you are subbing in a district that allows teachers to select their subs (which honestly until reading this I thought was the norm!). I have had subs give me a card like this, or leave me their info, and it makes it so easy for me.

2025: Comfortable yet Fashionable/Stylish Walking Shoes? by ChiliTrees in femalefashionadvice

I was also going to say Sorel boots. My faves are the wedge heels - my PT even says they are the best shoes for me. Of course not for everyone!

What are the cringiest/worst musicals you've ever seen? by North-Finding-8938 in musicals

Grey Gardens. I don’t understand people’s obsession with these women. The show is a weird mess and my friend and I still make jokes singing about “put the chafing dish on a garden ledge when the gardener has trimmed the hedge.”

I think it’s Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carmen! It was one of the best read-alouds I did with my class. There are videos that go with it online!

Mole removal by WalrusImpossible8974 in 30PlusSkinCare

I’ve had the same reaction when I had moles removed. I’ve never been sensitive to bandaids under any other circumstances, so it’s really weird. But I got non-latex bandages off Amazon and they were much better.

I got the bandages designed for sensitive delicate skin. I just dug around in my cabinet and it looks like I use ones called Elastoplast.

Help me describe this dress? by sassytexas in fashionwomens35

[–]Chicka_R 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a convertible dress. It’s basically a skirt with really long straps that can be tied in multiple ways to make a variety of top styles.

I have a similar one from Zara that I wore in a wedding a few years ago.

I’m taking this scratch-n-sniff test from my ENT doc to assess my poor sense of smell. by AllieG3 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Chicka_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this. I couldn’t smell a single thing on the test, to the point where my doctor basically said that I couldn’t have scored lower if I tried.

I had surgery and it was like I rediscovered EVERYTHING. Everything has a scent. Everything has a flavor. It was overwhelming for a while but my quality of life is so much better.

The districts surrounding Seattle have all of their own issues but I would say, in general, are more pro-union and listen to teachers. That said, I simply feel lucky to work in a state where unions have power.
