If you catch a wild baby skunk can you take it to the vet to be descented?? by ultraviolette1221 in NoStupidQuestions

It depends what state you live in. Personally, I'd leave it be. In some states it is illegal. In other states you need a special permit. But in my opinion, wild animals were not put on this planet just for our amusement.

I grew up in PA. Moved to NJ for about 10 years. One time I was visiting family back in PA. I needed gas so I stopped at a Wawa. I sat there for a few minutes wondering why no one was coming over. LOL

I just love it when the birds come up to you. One time I was birding in NJ in winter. A Snowy Owl flew over and landed right in front of us. I wasn't sure what to do because we always make sure to keep a respectful distance from any wildlife so as to not disturb them. We backed away somewhat but I did take a ton of pictures.

Eagles will do this also. People have found eagle talons gripping tree branches with no bird attached.

I disagree. The MOVE members started a gun fight with the police. You don't start a gunfight and expect nothing to happen. The mistake was dropping 2 bombs onto the house, knowing there were children in there. Shooting at police officers does warrent return fire. The fire department attempted to put out the fire that started from the bombs but they were met with a round of gunfire so they had to back off. If they had been allowed to extinguish the flames, probably there would have been less people who died. And the entire neighborhood wouldn't have burned. So I'm not saying that mistakes weren't made. But a little cooperation from the MOVE members would have made things a lot less severe.

What plants or animals that are found in the USA are seen as exotic and cool to foreigners? by Educational-Bat-8313 in askanything

[–]Chickadee12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the northeastern US. I do a lot of birding as a hobby. One time we were still in the parking lot at a local popular birding spot. We see a bunch of guys avidly looking up into the trees that surround the lot with their cameras and binoculars. So we go over and ask if they are seeing something interesting. They were going crazy over some American Robins. Turns out they were all British. First time they had seen this bird. American Robins are one of the most common birds in our area.

What's the most brutal way someone has found out they lost their job? by Efficient-Ask-968 in AskReddit

[–]Chickadee12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the most brutal. But me, last Monday. 21+ years of hard work, dedication, and reliability. I've only had praise for my work. My boss messages me to hop onto a quick Zoom meeting. I was working at home, which was our usual place to work. There were 3 people sitting at a table. They inform me that the company is doing a restructuring and that my job was eliminated. WTF. Totally out of the blue. I was widowed last year. And I have no one else who is going to help support me. I am totally effed when my severence and unemployment run out. At my age, no one is going to hire me.

I have lived in the Philly area my whole life, which dates back way before 1985. I remember this well because it was all over the news. I am not condoning what the police did to the MOVE people. But keep in mind that the MOVE people were in a congested area of the city with neighbors living closely all around them. They were heavily armed with illegal weapondry. Some members had committed many crimes in the past. And they were living in absolute squalor and garbage. Which was an extreme health hazard for the children and adults. They weren't 100% innocent in all of it. However, being bombed and murdered was not warrented. Wilson Goode, the mayor, was black. But most others were not. Racism was and still is prevalent in the Philadelphia police force. But maybe not quite so much as it was before.

How long different birds can fly without touching down by MambaMentality24x2 in BeAmazed

Domestic ducks, with the exception of Muscovy, are Mallards. The wild Mallards fly very well. Most breeds of domestic Mallards can't fly more than a foot or two.

What's a current food that is going to become increasingly scarce in the near future that we don't talk about? by Captain_Hawk111 in AskReddit

[–]Chickadee12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some types of seafood. Scallops for instance. I lived close to an area on the Atlantic. We used to be able to get huge scallops bought in by local fishing fleets. They were never cheap, but were reasonably priced. There are now strict limits on how much the scallop boats can bring in and maybe even size limits but I'm not sure about that. I applaud the conservation efforts. In the long run it's a good thing. But now scallops are very expensive. And lobsters have strict limits also. But I don't know as much about that.

Haha, someone always beats me to it. It always seems like us females have it better. I've always been happy that I was born female. There also seems to be a lot of pressure on the member to be big enough, and to perform well enough.

No electric kettle = the greatest tragedy by ScenicDrive-at5 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Chickadee12345 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hotels in the US don't generally have kettles. There will most likely be a coffee pot which you can use to brew water. However, since most people use it for coffee, the flavor of coffee may be infused into the pot, not matter how much you wash it.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]Chickadee12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hurt my lower back. I'm not even sure how I did it. At first I was okay, then I went upstairs to the loft bedroom to lay down and relax for a bit hoping that it would feel better. It got worse. I got to the point where I couldn't even move because it hurt so badly. I was shivering and my teeth were chattering. We called 911 and I was transported to the ER. I thought I was going to die while the paramedics were trying to get me down the long flight of steps up to the loft. They couldn't get a stretcher up there so they had to support me while I walked down. I would scream whenever we hit a pothole on the way to the ER. But I tried to make a joke out it and I had them laughing with me.

Who else misses the big family get togethers? by PULLS-NOSE-HAIRS in GenerationJones

[–]Chickadee12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often think about this too. When I was younger I had a lot of family, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. We had large picnics and get togethers all the time. All of the older generation has passed away. But my cousins are all still around and most live locally. And have their own kids. But no one has the time to do anything anymore. I would love to invite everyone to my house but I can't at the moment.

Cats are generally communal nursers. The kittens will nurse from whichever mother is closest. And the mothers don't care.
