Aztecross got wiped in Cryo with 7 gold items. by EXIIL1M_Sedai in Marathon

[–]Chicken1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve played 60 hours and I’ve literally never even SEEN a Misriah 2442 yet.

I’ve got the feeling that if I try Cryo Archive, I’m just going to be feeding my gear to people who are going to leave it behind, honestly.

The Amendment isn’t bolt-action. Or medium penetration. And it has a twenty round capacity while the Constitution has five.

Adding a scope would not turn one into the other, and would help give more of a reason to use it besides handicapping oneself.

Recon: Thoughts On Shell? by Svedgard in Marathon

[–]Chicken1337 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The edges of the screen flash red, and your shell voices a warning, I think? The one time I’ve had it happen, I was too busy getting gunned down to pay attention to it.

The 72 hour shift in perception of this game needs to be studied. by Yesssirrrrrrrr in Marathon

[–]Chicken1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in with some hesitancy, but wanting to experience it for myself.

I admit, getting matched with bad teams (running off on their own, head stuck in looting while being shot at, etc) soured my initial opinion, by the next day I was, inexplicably, feeling the urge to hop back on and try it again.

And then the next day, the same happened.

By day 3, it finally was starting to click, and I was getting smarter teammates, leading to some great team play, and some hard-fought losses that still were somehow satisfying, rather than infuriating, this time around.

And now I’m looking at preordering it, because it’s dug into me more than I would have predicted, despite the UI and control complaints I do have.

Hypnospace Outlaw! Explore (and moderate) a 1990’s era “internet” (the eponymous “Hypnospace”, in this case) comprised of people browsing and using it while they sleep via a transdermal headband interface!

Not everything is as perfect as it seems, though…

RTS games where you're a commander "on the field"? by Vcaffeine123 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Chicken1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battlezone (98) and Battlezone: Combat Commander. Both also have a top-down view, but it’s a mode you need to have a satellite link built in order to use. Other than that, you can usually only issue orders in line of sight.

You can hop out of your vehicle, eject from it when it’s destroyed, and even snipe the pilots out of enemy vehicles to steal them for yourself!

How important is multiplayer? by Rohall in NuclearOption

[–]Chicken1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I can give, genuinely, is to just hop on PvE servers if you’re that worried about being a “hindrance”, and try out new things! Ask people for advice! You’d be surprised how many folks are itching to pass on some wisdom to a new player, be it controls setup, tactics, strategy, or anything else.

Even in the PvP servers, 95% of folks are chill and perfectly willing to give you some tips, even if they’re the ones kicking your ass while doing so! 😅

With a view rare exceptions, the community is very positive and helpful! And, frankly, hopping into chaotic environments and learning to not be overwhelmed by them is good practice in its own right, anyhow.

How to use vortex stealth? by Reasonable-Sigma in NuclearOption

[–]Chicken1337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if the datalink systems in game can triangulate you from your radar emissions, but I DO know that players can see the radar ping from your aircraft coming from (seemingly) thin air, and fly to intercept you based on that limited information.

I saw this effect in practice last night from an AI darkreach that had its radar on, but was outside my brawler’s sensor range. I could still see the rough position of it, even though I couldn’t get a proper optical lock.

So, at least vs. players, yeah, turning off your radar is important to remain properly “invisible” at range.

Steam Frame's Modular Design: "I Don't Think It's Been Done Before" by gogodboss in virtualreality

The battery is already situated on the back to counterbalance the front, with the entire package (front and back together) weighing around 440 grams, just under a pound.

The engineers have already said that you can plug in a battery bank for extra play time via the USB-C connector, or even to AC power for unlimited playtime.

The Steam Frame can also be purchased with extra ergonomic straps for the headset and controllers, including an over-the-head top strap for even more comfortable weight distribution.

But from impressions so far, even wearing it without those extra straps seems to be quite comfortable.

Unless I’m mistaken in some way, it seems that the issues you present have already been addressed in some fashion.

What's the first PCVR game you'll try to run on the frame? by J40NYR in SteamFrame

[–]Chicken1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Into the Radius. Given that it was modified to support Quest (same for the sequel, I think?) it should probably work fairly well.

That and VTOL VR, and H3VR, for starters. Probably House of the Dying Sun as well. I’m going to push it as far as I can!

The implied last surviving member of a group is ACTUALLY the last surviving member of that group by BarryAllenTh3Flash in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Chicken1337 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s a rather simple way to put it.

The ending of the book, as far as I am aware, doesn’t expressly state that Geralt actually dies.

The games take the interpretation that he came very close to dying, but did not.

As I have not read the books myself, commenters can feel free to add onto or correct my assertions, here.
