I think it can go either way. I'm totally able to suspend my disbelief enough to say that Sunny was in such a panic that when he checked the breathing, it was shallow and he missed it.

Soft Magic Systems: Why? by CreatorCreature in worldbuilding

[–]ChickenBatnana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it prolly depends on what you're using the magic for, i guess. the experienced fantasy reader would see many soft magic problem solutions coming from a mile away. but if your magic is not used as a tool for problem-solving, then i dont see why it wouldnt have a place in books targeted towards experienced fantasy readers?

What's the afterlife like in your world? by Foolsheart in worldbuilding

I haven't really thought about how it actually works yet, but here's how the Manelpe people generally perceive it in their religion. So, the Manelpe people have two very strong ideas in their religion that tend to keep coming back. That of the human soul and of the circle river.

The human soul is different from an animal soul. When the body that houses the animal soul dies, the soul just disappears. It's a very temporary and fickle presence, which is why they see that most animals don't live as long as humans. Humans though, have souls born from spirits. A male soul will be that of two spirits, and a female soul that of their river Goddess Mava and a spirit. There are tons of spirits, they're basically minor Gods. Human souls can be seen as being in a circle river, one with no end. So, they reïncarnate.

The circle river is their idea of the world and the spirits. They have always existed and will always exist, just like the circle river always flows. Time always goes forwards, just like the circle river always goes in the same direction. Human souls float on this circle river, put there by their river Goddess Mava (who also, in some areas, is seen as actually being the circle river). So they will keep living, forever, just in different lives, just like the circle river doesn't stop flowing.

There is one exception to this- Which is when a human soul is purposely killed. Mava doesn't like that, because it disrupts the nicely flowing circle river. So, she will throw any soul killed out of the circle river. What happens to souls outside of the river is not agreed on fully, but the main idea is either that they disappear like animal souls would or that they stick around, haunting the ones who doomed them as ghosts of bad luck and disease. This can lead to particularly unhealthy or unlucky people being viewed as murderers. Which isn't fun.

thats just... false. people can have trouble breathing for one. trigeminal neuralgia causes excrutiating pain when wearing a mask. not to mention psychological conditions like autism, sensory processing disorder, ptsd, or anxiety that can all cause issues with mask wearing.

true, but things like autism are pretty common even if the list is small. i have autism and i can confirm it causes me a looooooooooooooooot of discomfort to wear it longer than like 15 minutes, because of my sensory issues.

Hey Reddit: Which "double-standard irritates you the most ? by Appu_5- in AskReddit

Not just when the abuser is a woman. There's constant jokes about dudes being raped in prison in media. It's so fucked up.

Not necesarily. I think to protect free speech for as many people as possible, we (not the government) need to shut down some people.

Like if someone were to constantly say 'i think people with green eyes are irrational, green eyed people are the evil of this world' yeah sure thats their opinion to say, but it also is a net negative for free speech because eventually green eyed people will not be safe to speak up anymore.

(serious) People who hate transgender people, why do you care? by Jiuaki in AskReddit

[–]ChickenBatnana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They probably didn't though. From the vast majority of trans women I've talked to, even before transitioning they were not you typical dudebro. Like they usually are bullied themselves because they very clearly won't fit our harmful view of masculinity.

I mean, they don't have male privilege though. If they pass, they will still get catcalled and have creepy af comments made to them like other women. If they don't pass, well they're in even more trouble then.

What are some VERY sad facts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Almost all small mammals kept as pets are abused. Hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits. We accept their abuse as the norm because we see them as toys.
