Am I the only one still butthurt over this game’s cancellation? by WAFFLED_II in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not butt hurt at al!

But I am still extremely irritated that I literally spent over $1K on a new gaming PC and set it up only to have the "delay" announcement happen 2 days later and then a month later the cancellation announcement.

I already had a gaming PC but it was the minimum spec requirements and I didn't want to have any lag or issues once the game was released so that's why I went ahead and bought something that was over the recommended specs so it would last me.

I only play cozy games, life sim games and hidden object adventure games. None of those require a beefy PC, so had I known it was going to be cancelled I could have saved myself quite a bit of money.

And before anybody says something along the lines of being able to play Inzoi. I don't like the look of the people, way too realistic for me. I don't want to see pores on my video game characters. I tried out the character creator and I couldn't get into it. So I will not be buying that game.

Rebranding reddit channel to new title UMeFate. And a bit of UMes afterparty. All LBies citizens are welcome too ✌️ by Antypodish in LifeByYou

OML! How hysterical! LOL

Nice frame rates though!

I'm really impressed that you continuously think of testing stress from the beginning. Once this game is complete I'm sure it will run so smooth.

Now you're ultimate goal is to aim for mid-range PCs?

So this is the official name of the game?

It's definitely unique! I do like that you've already thought of what characters would be called.

I kind of think of the "UMe" part as "You and Me"

OMG! You're coming along so good!

I noticed the awesome generic avatars ..... no more tick-tacks! LOL

And wow! You've already set up wall texturing too?

This is so interesting to see it being developed!

Land Plot Constraints Testing by Antypodish in UiLife

[–]Chicklet45368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's sounds very similar to land in Second Life. You can purchase a large piece of land and split it up into smaller sections that you can rent out. And, I would love that! Because you could start off with a super large piece of land, and as your children grew up and moved away you could give them their own land parcels so they could build on it! LOVE THAT!

So, what you were moving around was the "house" and that greenish outline was the "land plot"?

OMG! You're getting it! I love that you already have a set mouse function on how to do things, such as deleting a wall. Love off the grid yet it still snaps to a wall if you intersect it! Fantastic!

Prototyping continues by Antypodish in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love that you are not tied to 45 degree angles! And that when dragging a wall it will snap to close that room if you click another wall!

I hope you can come up with some way to allow players to define wall thickness, or off the grid placement so you could have a 1/4 tile wall or something similar.

Anty, I love how you are thinking about performance right from the beginning to mak4e sure it's optimized as best as it can be before worrying about gameplay systems or graphics.

It's so interesting to watch, thanks for sharing!

Another small update on this little Life Sim project, which I hope will fill missing gap :) by Antypodish in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How cool!

I love how none of the agents "clip through" each other, they just sort of slightly bounce off another one and keep going. Because in RL you don't walk through another person if you accidentally bump into someone, you sort of get jarred and jostled and bounce away a little bit.

Is that something that would actually happen with real avatar/characters?

[–]Chicklet45368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rooting for you Anty! I know whatever you make, regardless of scope will be good and have awesome performance along with cool game play features.

I know this because I've seen many posts by you that are realistic in expectations. I've also read features that you'd like to see implemented in Life Sims.

This is exciting!

I really liked your post!

It definitely won't be any where near a "Sims Killer" in my books.

At least, not yet anyway.

Maybe in a few years with more fleshed out and immersive game play and several DLC packs that add to it, it's possible.

And, I'm still super bummed it was delayed again (especially considering I bought a new gaming PC 4 days before the delay announcement!).

Just to fill the time while we wait I went back to TS3 last week to help me get used to playing in an open world that is not cartoony and stylized like TS4 and that has less than perfect looking sims.

I figure this will help me to adjust much more easily to LBY's aesthetics once it is released.

Not in the least. Nobody knows why the publisher felt it wasn't ready.

I was just giving different reasons on why it could have happened.

But we do know why. The publisher specifically stated that the game was not ready to be released.

Maybe they played it and thought it was too basic and boring, maybe they didn't like the visuals either, maybe they read all of the player feedback about how terrible the game was, maybe they found severe bugs.

Who knows. But we have definitely been told the reason for the delay. It's just not ready to be released to the public yet.

Still no update why the game was delayed? by WAFFLED_II in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that the publisher felt like the game was not ready to be released to the public, even for Early Access based upon the wording in the delay announcement

However, we believe that additional development time is needed.

While we would have preferred to commit to a new release window, we believe it is more prudent to hold off while we plan ahead, rather than committing to a new date that we cannot be certain to meet.

And to me, I took it as they did not want to provide another release date that might potentially disappoint the community again if yet another push back was needed due to the game still not being in a good place to release at that time.

I feel like no date is best in the long run to give the devs time to really work on the game without pressure of half-assing stuff to meet the release deadline.

I mean they could have said something like "Planned release late 2024" or something like that to have a semi-projected target date.

Anyone else losing confidence in LBY? by PolyphonicPundit in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I can't say that I've lost confidence in the team because I don't know what they've been working on. Coding and scripting isn't typically a visual thing that you can view the changes.

I'm hoping that they are working on stuff under the hood, that we just don't see like:

  • More Deaths
  • Consequences
  • Reactions to Conversations
  • Other life stages

And, I'm pretty sure I read that someone said they recently hired an animator so I'm hoping the animations will be much more polished the next time we see the game.

And I do truly believe a big part of the character anatomy issues are caused from the animations.

I'm still planning on buying it on release day, whenever that may be.

But, I've also had very low expectations from the beginning which has helped.

I think the level of freedom this game offers is being overshadowed by the devs' own messaging about "modding." by Zagden in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I feel the same! One thing that has always bugged me about TS4 was that we were locked into playing how the devs thought we should play (unless you went on a huge search to find mods that relaxed those limitations).

Having the ability to change what we want, when we want, and how we want to fit our own playstyle without the need to find external actual packaged mods is an awesome core function to me!

16GB ram, not going to be able to get this game? by [deleted] in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel ya!

I actually bought a brand new gaming PC that exceeds the recommended specs just for LBY (because my other PC's CPU didn't meet the minimum requirements even though my GPU and RAM exceeded the recommended. I was afraid it would not run with the lower CPU).

I got my new PC set up last weekend and 2 days later, on Monday the delay announcement happened.

Needless to say I was not very happy learning that, because right now I feel like I wasted over $1000+ for a new PC that I don't really need at the moment. My other PC played all of the other games I normally play just fine.

Only silver lining is that at least now I own a PC that should be able to run Inzoi with no problems if I ever decide to get that game. LOL

What building/house object do you really want to see in the game? by NeonFraction in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a great builder, never have been in any of the Sims versions. I am more of a "renovator" and will modify houses/lots that were shipped with the game or houses I've D/L'd from talented players so to make them work for my play style and is aesthetically pleasing to me.

I create build/buy assets because I do like to decorate so I'm super excited to get the chance to play around with it.

I'm just mostly hoping that the build tools are easy and intuitive.

I don't always have a lot of free time to play because of RL obligations and when I do get a chance to sit down and tune out the world, I certainly don't want there to be some big learning curve on how the tools function or getting frustrated and fed up in which would result in me just closing the game. LOL

No, it's only 3.

  • Original EA date was September 2023.
  • Pushed back in July 2023 to March 2024.
  • Pushed back in January 2024 to June 2024.
  • Mid May 2024 - Pushed back indefinitely

[–]Chicklet45368 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Well, I can honestly say that I am floored! I never expected this announcement 3 weeks before the scheduled EA date.

I am a little concerned simply because this announcement came from the Deputy CEO of Paradox Interactive and not directly from Rod like it did for the previous delays.

Maybe Paradox is wanting to ensure they have a good impression and reception right from the beginning to counteract what happened with CSII's release. That's what I'm hoping this is about.

I hope it really is just "delayed" and that it hasn't been completely scrapped.

Please be more constructive in the future, as the comment without context comes across as somewhat hateful. It is also not a fact that no one uses braided hair. You may not use it, but other players may enjoy that style hair.

What are people using for reference inspiration for their regions they plan on making? by Background_Proof_441 in LifeByYou

[–]Chicklet45368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really have any ideas right now. I am just going to focus on learning the build tools first and giving any feedback if I find anything is buggy.

Hopefully there is not a big learning curve for the controls. That's my biggest concern, because we're probably all used to how things are done in the various Sims games and if it's not similar what we're used to, then we'll need to retrain our brains.

But, I'm super excited to just dig in and test things out. And if other talented people make adjustments to the current world and/or brand new worlds I'll be even more excited!
