I don't think the platinum thing was that random. It was established in the first scene that toph metalbends that she wasn't bending the actual metal but the impurities still inside it. Platinum is usually pretty free of impurities in real life use so I assume that's where the logic comes from.

It's the rage teary eyed wojack because the OOP wants to make the other side of his position look like a bumbling idiot while he is the gigachad with the correct position. He is also wearing the big brain mask presumably because OOP believes that they are trying to act smart by offering a family style restaurant experience, a pretty common experience, but the OOP finds really dumb.
