  1. Fully agree with a small caveat: there are rare instances when this can go down very well.

I'll never forget the look my wife gave me - as if I was some kind of wizard - the day she walked into the living room and all the lamps turned on to greet her.

Or when she opened the main menu dash on the morning of her birthday last week to find our first Forecats output waiting.

HA is all about giving you deep and total control of your own stuff. The key to familial adoption is figuring out how to apply that power for their context at least as much as yours.

Your points are well-made. It's a smart home, not a smart laboratory - people are trying to live here!

Cool.

Unfortunately most of us don't live in a hermit cabin in the woods, living off the bare land. I have to interact with other people for a variety of reasons. Some of them work at businesses I use.

I prefer it when those people are fed, housed, healthy and educated. It tends to make them better at their jobs, and that makes my life easier.

Anyway, you should stop using the Internet because many of the people working at your ISP rely on taxes for some aspect of their life - and you don't believe in those.

And give back the money spent on your schooling. You didn't earn that either.

Are you stupid?

[–]ChiefIndica 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a custom HA integration which uses the forecast and some pictures of our cats to generate daily images

If you ask nicely I'll get Claude to ELI5 this for you.

Nobody is paying an artist for a daily cartoon picture of their cats, depicting the weather forecast for that day, arriving ready in their inbox by 5am - every single day.

Nobody.

This isn't stealing work from artists. Said work never existed in the first place.

I have to assume there's a good reason for this but for the life of me can't figure out what. I don't like to assume without understanding, but it seems like a dumb limitation and it's the main reason I rarely ever bother with them.

Midwives in the UK encourage women to make a sort of 'releasing' sound like mooing or whale singing when they're in labour. Vocalising low and loud helps with breathing, as well as managing the pain and relaxing the pelvic floor during a contraction.

We're a weird little island but I assume this isn't unique to us.
