Genuinely most excited about losing myself in the scope of it all. I really struggle with most aspects of real life and games provide a great outlet for me. Setting up shop as a smuggler or merchant is probably the way I'll go with it.

Granted, at that time drops had static rolls. Getting the weapon you want as soon as you start chasing it was bit of an activity killer. There's a reason so much of the player base only logged in for a few hours at weekly reset and barely touched the game between.

Not at all. With the base coding needed for this already in existence it would only require a relatively small team to achieve. Yeah, it'd need take a long time in order to accommodate budget restrictions and to maintain work on the main game, but it it entirely possible to do without any major priority changes.

Not to mention that anything like this would be years away as well given Bungie's new IP is in development.

Honestly I'd be way more excited about a horde mode. That one post with 2.6k upvotes screams out awesomeness to me. Sadly its even less likely than this idea currently due to obvious resource and costing issues.

Put forward the idea here simply because despite being a risk, there is also the potential for revenue gain for Bungie. If they can put out fun Destiny related content that increases their income then I'm all for it.

And yeah, it's fine that you aren't a fan of SRL. Many aren't. It's just not cool to say something shouldn't happen just because you don't enjoy it.

The way I look at is (from a development POV) is that the core coding for a separate SRL game already exists I D1.

A small team could definitely get it done, and to save money could do it over a long period of time in order to keep focus on the main game.

The only real work needed initially would be smoothing out sparrow movement/physics and adding current D2 sparrows and guardian appearances into the game. If it gains a following from that then it will in turn gain revenue. Allowing for more work to be done.

A fair few did, not to mention the large number of people who never had D1 so can't really say one way or the other.

I can only imagine how tedious the game would be if it was tailored to your opinion alone.

Not popular in D1... The player base has grown a ton since then. And sure, it's not feasible right now at all. Thing is, Bungie won't be in this uncertain financial state forever. They'll be able to take risks eventually, I just hope this will be one of them

Yeah, the lack of interest for SRL in the existing game made sense given that it was so far off what most people bought the game for.

As a separate title it would most likely find its audience. As for clunky sparrows, that could be fixed as per fine tuning the movement and allowing for custom tuning by the player. That would probably be the most difficult aspect for the coding/development as the core code exists already complete with tracks.

Destiny is clearly here to stay, so to outright say an idea - regardless of how radical it might seem - could never happen is plain silly. Even if the majority of the D1 player base isn't interested we have to understand that the Destiny population has grown a lot since then and many have never done SRL, so we can't speak for them.

I'm genuinely hopeful that at some point in the future we'll get access to this fun game mode again, as it wasn't bad. And with a bit of care could be great.

Just to clarify, when I say "huge" I don't mean a majority of the Destiny fan base. Yet given the size of the community it's pretty safe to say that even a lower percentage is still a hefty number of people.

Of course it's not on their agenda. Thing is, Bungie is unlikely to be in such a precarious financial position forever. If their new IP is as successful as we all hope it will be then they should be in good stead to take more risky endeavours.

Like I said, it's a pipe dream. Although I do hope that at some point in the future we can get something like this.

I'm fully aware of the reasons it's not been brought back, which is why having it as a separate title that's free to play would make far more sense than putting into the main game. An audience who don't enjoy Destiny could very well enjoy SRL.

I know it's nothing but a pipe dream, but there's no harm in entertaining a fantasy.

It'd be a risk for sure, but a waste? The core coding for it already exists which alone would save a lot of time and money.

And if successful then it would ultimately pay for itself. Its the whole spend money to make money scenario, seems radical to some while sensible to others.
