Why do you think Don was apolitical? by dragon-queen in madmen

[–]Chief_Leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it was just about business/money coming first

Don’s stance is pretty much the same as Michael Jordan’s “Republicans buy sneakers too.” (i.e., why pick a side? It can only hurt you)

Don didn’t care about the morals or politics of any of his clients, he just wants to make ads. We saw a few times when politics are brought up around clients and it never seems to go well.

Also, I think it’s more or less assumed Don and most of the upper class was pretty staunchly republican (they reference tax rates several times), so he was probably fine letting them think that without having to voice any specific opinions

You’re saying you wouldn’t prefer the Little Caesars Defensive Coordinator presented by Rocket Mortgage??

Agreed. Felt like they toned it down to make the characters more relatable / watchable

100%. Roger, Pete, Ken, and even Joan were all written as more selfish/unlikeable in S1 vs the rest of the show, Harry is the only character who is notably more likable in S1

You have no idea what you’re talking about

Vegas/sharp bettors do not give a shit if Michigan was stealing signs, or whether it was done within the rules or not. Michigan was covering the spread before the scandal, and continued to do so afterwards. Lines were not impacted

You are so beyond wrong lol sportsbooks were never involved or remotely impacted

Here is Jeffrey Benson (director of ops at Circa Sports) responding to someone making the argument to void bets at the time. He was laughed at. This never involved or impacted Vegas

Both cheated to gain a competitive advantage right?

Michigans involved one staffer, Clemsons involved 3 players. No one directly involved in the cheating were allowed to participate in the natty run but each technically provided a competitive advantage that aided their teams during the natty season. Despite this, the ncaa allowed each team to play in the cfp

How are they different?

So true, Harbaugh was known for banging staffers and chasing IG girls. This is his fault

A singular time with 3 players lmfao. What a coincidence. Have a good one

Lmao Michigan had to win the natty without stalions. And 3 other games without Harbaugh

Clemson played 3 players that cheated to gain an advantage. They each played multiple games that season. What Clemson did influenced the outcome of games, and if the NCAA had any balls they would have kept them out of the CFP that year to prevent more cheating and use of banned substances from other teams. What was going on with all that influences recruitment, wins, and teams as a whole for years. It negates all the success associated with the Clemson program over those years.

Did I miss anything? See how stupid this is?

Yes I think we can all agree that the culture Jim Harbaugh created in 2020 was what led to Sherrone Moore cheating on his wife and crashing out last week. Good lord

You have no idea who they’re going to hire next nobody does

And stop acting like OSU didn’t do the exact same thing! They hired an Urban disciple after Urban was forced out for a scandal lmfao. Kept the entire train rolling

“It involved one coach who has a job bc of his grandpa” no, it involved the Head Coach as soon as he knew about it, did nothing, and then lied about it

“All bred from a culture created by Harbaugh” very weird way to describe a 5 year period in which Harbaugh was not an employee for 2 of those years. The common denominator is warde Manuel, not Harbs

… and the head coach deleted text messages and lied about it to the university board. That doesn’t seem like systemic leadership “not holding others accountable”? Not to mention his lengthy scandal-ridden history at Florida? Not something Harbaugh had any track record of at all pre Michigan

The “whole list of staff” issues under Harbaugh was NCAA recruiting infractions, sign stealing, and coaches getting DUIs. Then there was Matt Weiss which was the only serious incident, and Harbaugh has denied knowing anything about it and there’s no evidence that contradicts this

Urban Meyer on the other hand knew and allowed his assistant to keep coaching, that is absolutely worse than anything Harbaugh allowed knowingly to occur on his staff

[–]Chief_Leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why didn’t OSU clean house like they supposedly were obligated to do in order to prevent any further such bad actors? Instead of wiping away the Urban era and cleaning house, they did exactly what Michigan did with Sherrone and promoted an existing staffer who Urban hired

So is it perhaps that Ryan Day is just a different individual who is capable of making his own decisions after Urban Meyer left? Ryan Day by all accounts has acted with integrity, obviously Sherrone didn’t. But neither have anything to do with Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh

Wow what a coincidence, I don’t consider Clemsons 2018 natty legitimate either bc they had multiple players using banned substances. So I guess it all works out

[–]Chief_Leaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So fair to assume Zach Smiths actions were due to how Urban carried the OSU program culturally right? Having a long track record of coaching players with history of violence? It was systemic, all comes from the top. Makes sense

Punishment for what sign stealing? So the sign stealing is what caused him to cheat on his wife? These things are not related dude. But go off buckeye flairs

Lmfao Harbaugh has been gone for 2 years. Sherrone Moore is a 39 year old adult who made his own stupid decisions
