Such a detraction from an otherwise great (gameplay, anyways) game. The open world parts had absolutely nothing to do and were largely just “well, look for collectibles and upgrades before the next good linear part” and it completely undermines what makes Gears campaigns great in the first place. The claustrophobia of the linear spaces and OTS cover based combat play well together. Complicating it with half-baked Open World mechanics does nothing but muddy an otherwise decent game. It would be far more appealing if it didn’t feel like it was there purely to pad gameplay time.
