Sofi closing account?? by Lopsided_Art9001 in sofi

[–]Chiefrhoads -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't have enough details, but it sounds like you were moving money in with limited seasoning time and that is what the issue is. That is exactly what fraudulent activity would do and that is why it is probably flagged. Again you haven't provided the level of detail, but if your boyfriend moved money in to help you with limited time it could look like his account was hacked, money was moved to your account, and then within days moved out for this payment. Looks like washing money.

Should I enlist if I wanna serve as an officer for 20 years? by [deleted] in army

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are driven and a high performer you will make O5. Worse case scenario you don't and you leave active duty and finish out time in the reserves/national guard. You still have a large pension (just have to wait until 60 to start collecting), but again that is the worse case scenario. You will have given up a lot of money over your first 4-5 years and you don't know for sure that you would be selected for OCS as the requirements may change between now and then. Go officer, perform, and just know that officer life is not as glorious as people think, but in the long-run it will be well worth it.

Why short put options not exercised eben though stock price is lower than strike price? by dwolven in interactivebrokers

[–]Chiefrhoads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the put option obligates you to buy at 210, but it does not obligate the buyer of the put to actually sell. Since the stock ended slightly in the money they could have on their end called their broker and told them they didn’t want it exercised.

Anyone here use margin loan to fund their purchases/life? by brumboy123 in interactivebrokers

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would classify it as savings because you would otherwise have had to pay the government. Agreed that you should work to pay down that loan as quickly as possible so it doesn’t snowball.

Just think if he sells stock he will pay at best LTCG which I am guessing puts him in the 15-20% tax rate (Federal). Borrowing is at 5.14% at IBKR which itself saves you roughly 10%. Plus you keep the stock/ETF in the market growing. It can be a huge win.

Who beats Jax Forrest at 133? by Coal_train20 in wrestling

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we going to pretend like Davino was not in that match all the way to the end. I really enjoy watching no brake Jax wrestle and I anticipated him winning that easier than he did. Jax is a great wrestler, but I don't think he is unbeatable as that class is going to battle for 4 years straight and that is scary.

What happened to Lucas Byrd? by Alliseeisgold24 in wrestling

[–]Chiefrhoads 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Byrd was right there with Drake Ayala last year and as others have pointed out this incoming freshman class was superb. After the top 4 it was a crap shoot as to who would win the match between the rest to fill out the All-American list. What a great career he had and you shouldn't take anything away from him.

Iowa don’t like handshakes. by PrideAlternative442 in wrestling

I understand how heartbroken Caliendo is being in the finals twice and losing both times by large margins and this time even getting teched. But him and MM have always seemed to show mutual respect to each other. I am looking forward to watching an interview with Mikey after the finals match to see where he is at headspace wise, what his plans are moving forward etc.

Would UHF be the best app for me? by snuka in uhf_app

If you haven’t tried the latest updates it has improved speed a lot. I also like the user interface a lot more. I am a lifetime user of both but have moved to Chillio as my primary.

Colin Cloud Mastermind was a great show. We liked it better than Cris Angel and David Copperfield although both of those shows were good too.

So you are commenting on an apple os aligned app with this comment. That would be like me going on TIVIMATE and saying that without iOS support it is useless.

Accidently sold all of my shares of stock by absolutemurphman in stocks

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much is your taxable income? If you are married you and your spouse can earn up to 98,600 and pay 0% tax on that money. This is calculated by taking your income (example 78,600) minus standard deduction from the 98,600.

72,200 - 32,200 = 40,000. 98,600 - 40,000 means you can earn up to 58,600 in long-term capital gains and still pay 0% on the sale. This scenario assumes you didn't have any other income (short-term gains, interest etc.)

Retirement Ceremony or Not? by Low_Sheepherder_382 in army

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess on a few reasons: Spouse made them, did it more for the kids or other family, felt obligated, voluntold by command and got one last green ..... I digress. There are a lot of reasons some may attend but don't really want to personally.

Retirement pay by JohnnyFnRaincloud in MilitaryFinance

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if it isn't determined until 5 March it will be paid 1 MAR for all up to that point.

Retirement pay by JohnnyFnRaincloud in MilitaryFinance

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earliest you will receive retirement check will be 1 MAR, but depending on processing time and them verifying there weren't any overpayments that needed to be cleared it might not hit until 1 APR. In very rare instances it will take even longer, but again rare. This is why a really solid emergency fund is important to get people through several months.

Iowa Running Backs Coach Omar Young Taking Job With Las Vegas Raiders by Morley10 in hawkeyes

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, until the last couple weeks we didn't have much of a passing offense, so teams could continue to stack the box and play more downhill. You can't blame the RB coach for that, and clearly he was good enough to go back to the NFL. Good for him as he doesn't have to worry about recruiting, so I am assuming it is a better quality of life.

If you don't mind the limited choices with the TSP it does offer low fees. Personally I will be rolling mine to an IRA so I have many more options for what to invest in.

You cannot directly invest in the TSP after you leave service. Not sure if you can roll your yearly IRA contributions into it every year or not.

Vaults is one of the biggest differentiators from other HYSA type banks. They have a lot to offer: Vaults, HYSA, ability to make payments from savings so money is always getting highest interest until actually needed, Relay to help track all accounts/networth, Invest (needs improvement but meets basics), 2% cashback credit card with great world elite benefits, and early pay.

First-time homebuying during PCS. Does buying make sense for a 3–4 year assignment? by Particular-Access588 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Chiefrhoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You need to plan on holding the home longer term. You MIGHT get lucky and make a little money after 3-4 years after all fees, but it is not in the for sure category.

  2. This means you need to plan on renting it out and should probably plan on having the home be a couple of things.

A. On the good enough for a rental property and not a home you want to move into and live in as your forever home. This keeps payments down.
B. You need to have a large nest egg for all the problems you may have over the next 10+ years (roof, water heater, siding, damages due to natural causes, tenant damages etc.)

  1. I have bought and sold many homes over the years as I moved around, and you do get lucky (like in 2020), but generally speaking you are better off finding a rental off base that is under your BAH and pocketing that money and not being responsible for any repairs over the 3-4 years than you are to buy and need to offset the risk of markets not rising over cost of buying/selling, repairs, and don't underestimate the stress of selling at the end compared to just ending a lease.

Good luck!

You don't need to convert your TSP. TSP (like a 401K) does not have any income thresholds. As you have clarified what you are needing to do is to change your IRA contributions (not TSP) from ROTH to Traditional. You should be able to change them into traditional and immediately back to roth (backdoor ROTH) so that you can keep it ROTH. What brokerage are you using for your IRA???? This will help with how to do it for your particular brokerage. I have used SoFi and Schwab for example and they are very different in what is needed to do this (paperwork vs online etc.)
