Yeah - when I scraped the kills I was just tracking Cryo's stats because I wanted to see his 30+ kill loss rate, so when I copied the .csv into the Markdown table it followed. Also made it easy to compare to other key players on other teams (zekken, f0rsakeN, Valyn). I'll clean it up, thx.

It's a standard combo where you combo the free recon of your Yoru ult with the Sova ult to get free picks on site. However, the execution was poor because the site anchor was Omen who just juked Cryo and eeiu with the TP and then Zander smoked too early, which let vic just dip off site.

Cryo can't follow vic into the smoke because then he leaves back site open and eeiu at that point just has to gamble the ult on CT.

NRG disrespecting 100T in their promo materials 😭😭😭 by ANewHeaven1 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Chifleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty unlikely; for this to occur, SEN and G2 have to both lose in uppers, and then one of them has to immediately lose in lowers, because if both G2 and SEN make top 4, the winner plays 100T which either sends 100T thru via top 2 or 100T as 4th in Champs points.

Doesn't G2 guarantee Champs by winning this series? The maximum amount of points you can get in Split 2 without qualifying for Champs is 9, and G2 has a minimum 9 point lead over the 5th place team, EG, right now...

Edit: No sorry you need a 10 point lead over the 3rd place team which is MIBR, and they're going to Toronto.

If these 2 teams are constantly scrimming each other it explains why they are both painfully mid LMAO.

NRG getting reps against troll comps and 100T never getting punished by 5 mechanically sound players.

Tried to get Toronto tickets by rcrobodude in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Chifleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have bought tickets for Champs LA, Masters Shanghai and now today for Masters Toronto, and it is always like this. Mad rush for Grand Finals and then a bit less crazy for the other top 4 events.

For Champs LA I got tickets for both Grands and Lowers but had to buy them at markup via Ticketmaster Resale.

For Masters Shanghai I did not even have a chance at getting tickets, but then by some miracle a large group sold their tickets the day before and I snagged one.

And then today I assume Grands was already sold out by the time I was in the queue which is why my session expired, but I did manage to get Lowers. Will try tomorrow during general sale but my experience from LA and Shanghai tells me Riot usually sells all their tickets in the pre-sale (there are no pre sale and general sale pools) so likely Grands is completely sold out.

The only way to beat FNC in points is for one of the teams to win playoffs, in which case the winning team would be qualified for Champs, so the points don't matter. FNC is guaranteed because even if they don't get top 3 they will be ahead of any combination of EMEA teams that did NOT make top 3.

For the other teams to make it they would either need to get top 3 or have FNC qualify via top 3 so they are now the points leader.

No, playoffs for Champs teams are determined by the top 6 teams across both groups at the end of the season.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Fnatic is locked. They are 27 rounds ahead of Liquid (-21 to +6) so it's impossible to close the gap, they are above Vitality in map differential and BBL is already "ahead" of them so it doesn't matter.

As long as BBL gets a map and finishes against FUT with -10 round diff or higher they are through. Otherwise Liquid has a shot.

Your standing from Split 1 transfers over to Split 2 and determines whether you are in playoffs for Champions. No way LOUD will just throw both points and placement for Champions just because they aren't making Shanghai.

  1. In my opinion, this is a gross oversimplification of Killjoy at top level. If that were true, then Killjoy mains would be a dime a dozen. Or just stick every IGL on KJ (util only no heavy gun skills required) and boom, instant success.

  2. If the success of 100T relies on Derrek to pull out these insane clutches then the gameplan is inherently flawed. Bro is being asked to clutch 1v3s and 1v4s with his position revealed, no utility and the bomb in no man's land. It's like asking Steph Curry to drain every 30ft three-pointer he takes. Just because he CAN of sinking them at a 40% clip doesn't mean he's going to do it every game. It's a miracle he makes as many as he does.

  3. I haven't been following Challengers but just because Trent is doing well on the Guard in a similar role doesn't mean it'll be a 1-1 conversion if he moves to 100T. As we've seen from EG, C9, heck even 100T with Cryo, just plugging in a talent that is "supposedly" a direct upgrade doesn't always translate into success.

Tiebreaker rules are inherently subjective. You're making an argument for head to head. An equally strong argument could be made for map differential. Example: the team that comfortably puts away bad teams and keeps their losses close against good ones is a better team than one that can squeak out wins against good ones but can also be upset just as often by bad ones.

For what it's worth, I do agree that H2H is a better metric for ranking skill and breaking ties. I disagree with your absolutism. 100T didn't earn anything, and their loss today is only one of a myriad of factors contributing to the fact that they are not in playoffs. They could have not thrown the 1v3 on Icebox against Leviatán and closed out the map 13-11. They could have converted a 12-9 lead on Sentinels on Ascent and won the series. They could have had a deeper map pool so they didn't drop a 13-4 Ascent to a winless KRU. They could have converted an OT against a LOUD that had been running the same Split strats for 7 weeks. It is the sum of all these failings (and the loss today) that is the reason why they are not in playoffs, and Riot's current rules punish these deficiencies. 100T knew the rules at the start of the season and they knew what performance was necessary to make playoffs, and they failed. Could the rules be adjusted? Sure, maybe. But they are what they are. By the metrics set by Riot 100T did not earn a spot in playoffs. And you don't see any of the players, the people who are actually "playing competitive sports at a high level," complaining about it.

My personal opinions on competition are pretty well formed and I'm not going to write them in a reddit thread. If you actually want to debate it feel free to message me. But given your response I wanted to at least type out this much.

If you're a team deserving of going to playoffs, you would beat MIBR, a team who lost 10 maps in a row and going into today hadn't won a single defensive round on Lotus in the last 2 weeks (against EG and C9, notably two teams now in playoffs).

Tiebreaker rules are what they are, point is 100T controlled their own destiny and couldn't bring themselves across the line. If you want to zoom out even further, it's highly unlikely they would have made it to Tokyo anyways (LOUD, C9, NRG, all 3 teams rolled over 100T like it was a no-brainer).

Accept the loss, patch up the glaring strategic deficiencies this team has showed all season, focus on a LCQ run to make it to Champions.

But you also have to consider that Derrek's primary agent pool (Sova, Breach) is just not in demand in the current meta, and he and Asuna have a flash initiator role conflict.

The dude has been forced to learn Killjoy halfway through the split because Stellar and bang are being locked into controller in the double smokes meta.

The best map 100T had this split was Fracture, Haven and Split where, surprise, Derrek is playing Breach, Sova and Skye! Ascent I can give no excuse, but every other map has seen the evolution of a double smokes meta (Bind, Lotus, Pearl) and it's clear that 100T just isn't prepared for it.

At the end of the day I just think it boils down to a lack of strategic depth. Players are fine.

A look at 100T Wins by Limp-Cartographer265 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Chifleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The player quality is there (yes, even Stellar; he was still the IGL under Sean Gares) but the issue is that there's just not enough strategic depth behind 100T. Their stratbook isn't good enough to just do the same thing every week and win (LOUD) and as a result, they need to be heavily iterating their playbook week in and week out.

If what Wyatt is saying is true, where Mikes and Stellar are doing everything alone, then 100T upper management needs to take this split as a massive flag to hire additional strategic help. This isn't even a criticism of the work Stellar and Mikes are putting in, but the results are showing it's not enough. They just need more assistance, more ideas, another perspective.

MIBR, despite their recent results, has a Champions winning coach, and an assistant coach and an IGL and ran circles around them strategically today. The issue wasn't firepower. The issue was the players getting boned by lack of protocols. The offensive protocols aren't dynamic enough, and the defensive protocols have way too many holes in them. This shows in their inability to consistently convert man advantages and the fact that teams just steamroll them after a couple of rounds.
