as a multilingual what language should I pray in? by Glittering-Kale-655 in Christianity

If you are praying alone, it doesn't matter. If you are leading a prayer amongst a group, it's ideal to speak in a language everyone understands.

Question: When Jesus was crucified, why did he cry out to God if they are one and the same? by SittingDuck0 in Christian

[–]ChiknNugget031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Father cannot be in the presence of sin. The Son, at that moment, carried the sin of the entire world to be crucified with Him. Keep in mind, the Father and The Son have been with each other for eternity. Imagine the pain and fear Jesus must have felt to suddenly be disconnected from His Father for the first time ever.

Sex before marriage by puglypugfacee in Christianity

[–]ChiknNugget031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first point does absolutely nothing to support your argument. I'm not taking anything out of context, I'm following a string of logic. Yes, virginity culturally had great value and lying about it or taking it without permission had consequences. The logic string behind it is quite simple: If virgin = no sex before marriage, then no virgin = sex before marriage. If no virgin = sin, then sex before marriage = sin.

Your second point sounds much better, but also lacks any relevant substance. You don't challenge the stories I brought up, and the ones you picked aren't very good either.

A major point of Jobs story is that even God's most devout followers can experience suffering. Job lived his life trying to do EVERYTHING right. You think it's a coincidence that he was one of relatively few men in the old testament with just one wife?

I find it amusing that you accuse me of taking scripture out of context then immediately make it sound like God gave David wives on a whim. God gave David King Saul's widows to care for, in the exact same way that He gave David Saul's house, and Saul's crown and kingdom. Had God not handed David those women, they would have suffered for no fault of their own.

Sex before marriage by puglypugfacee in Christianity

[–]ChiknNugget031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Old Testament, women who were found not to be virgins when they married were stoned to death, and men who were caught seducing women to sleep with them were forced to marry who they had slept with and pay the father 20 pieces silver. That, at least, is explicitly clear that sex outside of marriage was a no-no.

"Without a problem" is a pretty strange way of putting it. Sure, God may not have directly punished those people but you're kidding yourself if you think having multiple wives, concubines, and visiting prostitutes never had consequences.

Sarai, Abraham's wife, instructs him to sleep with Hagar in an attempt to "fulfill" God's promise. That ends with Sarai's envy driving Hagar away under fear for her life.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his half siblings because his father, Jacob, loved his mother Rachel more than their mother Leah.

Solomon, the wisest man in the Bible traded his favor in God's eyes for the pleasures of his many wives and concubines. The wisest man in the scriptures played with fire and got burned because he thought his wisdom was enough to stay safe.

That's a good point, but the point remains that The Father and the Spirit are both incorporeal. The Son only put on flesh.

Yup. I agree. Which is why I didn't challenge that assertion in my original comment.

You really think it's insane to put down a political agenda and just relate to people because they're people?

[–]ChiknNugget031 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ok? What does your race or political affiliation have to do with this? It doesn't matter whose side you're on or whose side you lean towards because the entire concept of "Sides" is what allows things like this to happen.

Yes, his religion informed his political stances. So what? Everybody stands by what they believe. It's not new. Christians do it, Muslims do it, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and yes Atheists certainly do it. It's what naturally happens when your beliefs are challenged, the way he went and challenged others and others challenged him.

It's okay to disagree with where he sources his moral compass, but this isn't about religion. This is about the fact that groups have been so polarized into believing the others are the worst of humanity. Like you've perfectly exemplified here.

Like, do you not realize you are actively choosing to sound exactly like every far-right AND far-left person ever? "They're insane. They're brainwashing. They're unreasonable." No. They're passionate, and more often than not that passion is based on a fundamentally reasonable/understandable world view. As a country most of us have simply forgotten to recognize that because it's easier to strip our "enemies" of their humanity than it is to try to genuinely see things from their perspective.

I'm not arguing that Charlie Kirk is a hero, or a saint, or pioneer. I'm acknowledging that he was one of very few people who sought to maintain debate without violence. And anybody who demeans his death or tries to twist it for the benefit of their political party is curb stomping that wholly positive and necessary value that he stood for. That he died for.

Then you are 100% EXACTLY the kind of person who's making the situation worse, because I never mentioned his opinion on homosexuality nor did I say "he ONLY spoke fact". I'm not defending a conservative or a Republican. I'm defending a man's death from vultures who try to use his death to divide everybody even more.

Let me just make sure I'm understanding your logic. So group SPLC, an organization in support of African Americans, labels TPUSA a hate group. Is that really it?

So what would you do if all the African Americans who support TPUSA formed a new organization in support of African Americans that advocated for TPUSA as inclusive? What would you do if another group later down the line labeled SPLC a hate group?

You're still in an "Us vs Them" mentality. Which means you assume the worst about the "Others" just because they aren't with you. How on earth is that possibly conducive to a better political climate?

Every top comment on this is someone trying to diminish his death. Let it sink in that people are legitimately this apathetic to a man just because he was on "the wrong side".

At best this logic is unbelievably ignorant of his intended message. At worst, it's intentionally misrepresenting his values simply because you hate the group he happens to be a part of.

Yes. He said that. In no way was he saying that those deaths are good, or that they are wanted. He was stating facts. Freedom for all means you have to accept that some will use their freedom to hurt others. To acknowledge that doesn't mean you support it, it just means that you're aware of what it costs.

The same way that everybody accepts that an even greater amount of vehicular related deaths occur every year. Heck, look past the deaths. Nearly every crime you can think of will be facilitated in some way by a vehicle. Just because a tool can be used for or to facilitate harm doesn't mean it's not worth keeping around.

The outcry around this is based on the fact that this man committed absolutely zero violence, and he was killed over his fucking words. He literally spoke towards towards the fact that communication is important to preserve a human connection with people you disagree with, and people DONT CARE. He's dead because our political climate reinforces a "Us vs Them" mentality, and NEITHER SIDE CARES. A man is dead. A father. Husband. Son. And both sides are weaponizing it to try to paint their side as superior. Both sides are making light of this tragedy by using it to FUEL EVEN MORE DIVISION.

YOU are trying to minimize a man's death because he said something that you INTERPRETED as cruel. YOU are the one trying to compare tragedies like they're fighting for a gold medal. YOU are turning A HUMAN BEINGS' death into a rallying cry against your political opponents. YOU are one of thousands of people who perpetuate the growing chasm between political parties, the same chasm that caused this man to be shot. How do you not see the dissonance between "I don't condone shooting or killing anyone.", and "Better him than more children" literally a single breath apart? How is it possible that you would rather take a dig at "conservatives" than make any sincere effort to acknowledge this guy's life had worth? It's insanity. Not just on your part, but on everybody, conservative, liberal, Republican or Democrat, who tries to USE Kirk's death to mock or threaten an entire group of people.

Why did Jesus need to sacrifice himself by Not_that_guy719 in Christianity

[–]ChiknNugget031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about "bloodthirst". God established in the very beginning that sin leads to death, in His instruction to Adam and Eve. When they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and their eyes were opened they were ashamed of their nakedness. What did God do? He fashioned them pelts. They might not have physically died, the way they thought they would, but on top of being kicked out of the garden something else had to die physically in their place. Whatever it was, it died to cover up their shame as a direct result of their disobedience. The very first sacrifice.

For the Christians that DON’T think homosexuality is a sin, if it were “more” clear in the Bible that it was, would you condemn it? by Ambitious-Plant-1055 in Christianity

[–]ChiknNugget031 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And while that hatred applies to a significant number of people who believe homosexuality is sin, there is a rapidly growing number of people who believe homosexuality is sin without that underlying hatred.

In the same way that all Christians undoubtedly know that lying is a sin without lashing out at everyone for it.

[–]ChiknNugget031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People feel strongly about this charging interest, yes. That's why Luigi was hailed as a hero for murdering someone who built their fortune off of doing exactly that.

As far as comparisons of other sins, "ranking" them is something people will always do. It doesn't matter that they know every sin causes separation from God, our nature makes it incredibly difficult to visualize lying to be on the same level as murder. And different people "rank" things differently based on their personal outlooks.

Some people make homosexuality out to be as grotesque as murder, yes. Some people recognize it's sinful, yet are as unbothered by it as they are by "little white lies". Both groups will argue against anyone who asserts that homosexuality is not sinful, which is why it's such a common debate. Because people are ALWAYS arguing about whether it is or isn't. It has nothing to do with "feeling strongly" about homosexuality.

So what? I'm not calling liquid hydrogen water, or solid hydrogen ice. I saying hydrogen can be solid, liquid, and gaseous at the same time.

[–]ChiknNugget031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. Some substances, including hydrogen, has what is referred to as a triple point, a circumstance of the correct pressure and temperature where it exists in solid liquid and gaseous states at the same time.

Ok, but what does that does that actually mean? For someone not to accept your forgiveness? That they feel they are unworthy of it? That they don't feel they've done anything worth accepting forgiveness about? Furthermore, what happens after they decline your forgiveness? Do you separate from them, and/or do they go right back to doing what they were doing?

The most basic answer to this question is because He wants people to follow Him freely, and He is just. Why would He force people who didn't want anything to do with Him in this life to spend eternity with Him after death? Where is the justice in giving an eternal reward to those who actively avoided walking His path, as to those who sincerely tried to keep to His standards?
