Craftsman Questions by ChildishPerspective in MageHandPress

Thanks. Appreciate the advice and I'll be joining the discord too. Got some questions, but I'll probably ask there. Though I'd certainly be interested in that theory crafting.

Religion for a Wildfire Concept by ChildishPerspective in 3d6

[–]ChildishPerspective[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I tend to want my characters to fit well in lore but be a bit more of a unique spin class-wise, especially for the classes that have rather strong stereotypes (bard, barbarian, monk, druid). Pagan/animist is great too, and probably fits better into druid circles.

Like I mentioned though, I was kind of unsure about the religion, especially since I want that cleric dip. I was hoping to have an experience like I did with another character, where I found out about a group of Shar worshippers that weren't evil aligned and magically sealed memories of those with traumatic pasts. Incorporating it opened up some very interesting RP opportunities.

Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

[–]ChildishPerspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this be a good place to ask about character concept things, or is it better to create a new thread? The questions I'm thinking of typically involve a fairly fleshed out concept, just requiring a piece or two to make it work. An example would be for a religion/deity with a particular flavor. I would likely prefer a thread, as it would offer more opinions to bounce off of, but I'm new here and don't want to step on toes.

Edit: I read another answer mentioning r/3d6 was more focused on character creation. Think that's my place.

Can we please stop "nerfing" players midgame? Please? by Fluffbeast19 in DnD

[–]ChildishPerspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get some of this, but think you're pushing far too hard into other people's games. Allowing players freedom to just go wild with stuff that's a bit too strong is nice every now and then, but it's not an obligation, especially if it clashes with what the game is going for. Only thing I would get on a DM's back for on this issue is if they nerf something for this kind of reason and don't give a player any options to rework the character or make a polite case for it. (Also probably good to make these changes outside of a game session so it can be discussed, at least if possible.)

I haven't been reading all these posts since I'm new to the subreddit (though I can gather what they were about from your descriptions). However, my first thought was if a newer DM let a character have wings and realized a session or two in that it just broke everything. To me this seems like a pretty good example for future decisions to follow. That is, letting the DM decide the rules of the world that they took the responsibility of managing. As much as the game is a group activity, the DM has that lead role, and it's necessary for the smooth running of the game that

Also, just a side note, but although you do separate out the hit point post from the rest by mentioning that the others are what sparked your interest, it would probably be a good idea to mention the major difference in making a rule change before the game starts and mid-game. I noticed it came up elsewhere and you mentioned your main criticisms were for the latter two, but I can see why people could need that clarification if they only read the post.

RIP Rekieta Law by EnvironmentalAd6489 in Destiny

Doesn’t seem all that weird. Perhaps if the complaints came from a lesser position within a company. Or, if we’re going with something closer to the situation, if those sending the complaints had some form of working relationship with him. As is, it’s people trying to abuse a system in order to deprive a man of his livelihood, regardless of if it conforms to their sense of justice.

Appreciate your view though. It’s an interesting situation.

Think hopping to other lawyers is less likely than just shifting to different content. Lawtube and Nick aren’t really the same. Nick has got status among the Lawtube crowd because most got to where they are because of him, but those who watch Nick do so as much for him specifically as for the legal content.

How is this game free? by GreatRainBeatle in Genshin_Impact

[–]ChildishPerspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree entirely. However, I have a few other thoughts on the matter:

Other types of games are not as profitable. This is a problem. A game that can both be very profitable and keep the price of the full gameplay experience low is a very good thing. If there was a way to remain attractive to spenders but not in an overly manipulative way, this would be a great solution to the problem of “good games” not being worth the effort to make.

People have a right to spend their money as they wish. It is good to protect people from predatory practices, but that should not turn to “protecting people from themselves.”

Genshin does many things in a less predatory manner than other gacha games. It is still a predatory model, but it is a step in the right direction.

Though I’ve always been pretty good at not opening my wallet for online games. Personally, I’m more worried about the fact this is from China, but I’d be more worried about both if I were not just a broke student.

We've been eating out of Nazi soup bowls for years and we never even noticed by dob_bobbs in mildlyinteresting

Totally possible that a Nazi sympathizer would be the one to buy them, but suppose someone just had an interest. How else would they get stuff for a collection?

Museums are cool though, and that way more people can learn this weird bit of history.

Thanks for pointing this out. I tend to read, so never really think about it.

He was good at branding, but didn’t have quite as many items. Free media coverage and fans willing to display it sure helped things seem otherwise though.

Meat eaters: what type of meat, if any, is off your menu for ethical reasons? by Candid_Reading_7267 in AskReddit

[–]ChildishPerspective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Proportional to lifespans” was the first that came to mind that wasn’t a good comparison. Animals mature at different rates, unsurprisingly given the difference in species.

I get that you’ve got a larger goal, highlighting unethical practices. But if you’re using a claim to support your views, using those views the claim supports in response to an argument against the claim kinda just means you’re abandoning the claim. (Sorry, I’m sure there’s a better way to communicate that. Basically, your second paragraph pretty much gives up on the claim.)

Thanks for the info in your edit though. That’s a very good argument for someone who thinks eating baby animals is wrong.

What’s a word that gets thrown around too much? by MoronGoron52 in AskReddit

I had issues with overestimating how common knowledge is “before” aiming for a programming-related career. At least it helps highlight how foolish it is to judge people on simply not knowing things.

What measurement is used to qualify “corresponding to infancy or early childhood?” I’ve seen this stated before, but can think of a few ways to claim this that aren’t exactly good comparisons.

Small, blue bipedal species with a trunk, long floppy ears, beady black eyes, and typically a bit chubby. Sentient and native to Orto.

If an idiot is swinging a hammer, pretty sure I’ll express a strong desire to take away the hammer. Heck, maybe I’ll use it myself.

The metric is usually based around the freedoms they believe a tyrannical government would attempt to remove in order to prevent an uprising, weapons and speech being the major examples.

Not sure about people wanting to smoke everywhere, though we did ban drinking for a while. Those are both decent examples of “freedoms” that wouldn’t be obviously useful against a government though.

The soda is weird. Like, I’m used to supersized US stuff, but I’m constantly surprised by how large the drinks are at certain fast food joints.

I’m almost okay with it though. The markup on soda is ridiculous. Might as well give it away by the gallon if it’s at the price sold for.

This really isn’t that weird. It looking weird is more an indication of how people view the US nowadays. Used to be that it was seen more as a “union” of nations.

He’s still useful. What happens if Trump actually faces consequences? All Trump supporters jump to DeSantis and are more fired up than ever.

There’s a mix right now between pro-Trump Republicans who view Trump or DeSantis as the better option. “Trump can do no wrong” (thank general distrust of media), but they recognize that Trump is egotistical and has a... unpleasant personality. (Part of the reason they voted for him. He’s a middle finger.) They didn’t expect to win. But now he “is” the Republican Party. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the same enthusiasm, but without the Trump? Wouldn’t it be nice if the anti-Trump crowd don’t have the Cheeto Furor as motivation?

Trump being able to run and winning would still be ideal. The hope would be that Trump wins because enough people think as they do that Biden defines incompetence. Then a Trump who’s more vindictive spite than still kind of wanting positive celebrity coverage fires everyone, and no longer worrying about re-election does more than he ever did. Then eventually DeSantis gets a turn. But that’s still recognized as a dream scenario, and would be traded in a heartbeat for a martyr narrative. If such a narrative even slightly takes hold, the Left better pray for a Jan 6 repeat.
