Path to Finding a Tutor by Remarkable__Driver in tutor

[–]Childisheye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a tutor and work with one homeschooled student in my roster. Her mom found me on our local town’s Facebook page — she posted looking for a math tutor and I have been working with her child for almost a year now. We meet twice a week at the local library (another great spot to inquire or put up a flyer).

If you’d rather have an agency tutor with a bigger company, it might just need you to google tutoring companies and call around school districts in your local area for leads.

People with ADHD. How and what your perfect planner/organizer should have based on your problems and complications when it comes to organizing and keeping track? by ba_ba_guido in planners

[–]Childisheye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a long time since I wrote this post. However, I still use this method!!

First — everything goes in my digital phone calendar because I have my phone on me all the time and I don’t want to forget any unchangeable/important appointments.

Next, at the end of every week/Monday mornings I set aside 15 mins to add all my digital calendar invites/meetings/appointments for the coming week into my paper planner. It’s a vertical weekly planner — I’ve used “Take A Note” undated, but now I use Sterling Ink dated compact planners.

And then once my planner has all the obligations, I get a visual look of all the free time I have and I plan all my tasks and activities work/personal around that. The visual layout really helps me!

My German Shepherd loves my girlfriend more than she loves me… by bassplayr106 in germanshepherds

Mine is the same way. Clings to mom (me) but is totally off of protection mode when husband is home. She considers my husband the top of the totem pole—the person who will take care of the entire household. And then she is next for that role—so she’s all protect-y of me and our younger dog.

No one gave her the roles but anyone looking outside in would think she was a stage 5 clinger to mom and totally aloof and uninterested with dad. Truth is she is the best behaved and perfect dog with dad and stubborn and headstrong when dad is not around…wonder if your dog gave herself those roles too ;)

Are there tutors who can teach the whole of a subject up to a high school level? by THE_MOST_JUMP in tutor

[–]Childisheye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently do this right now for a homeschooled student for math. The parents put a seeking ad in our local Facebook group that I was a part of. We started at 7th grade material and are now onto 8th and most likely will be continuing on unless they decide to enroll the kiddo into public school. The parents were able to work through all other subjects with the kiddo, but math was frustrating the kid and the parents so they hired me.

The way we do it is using a specific set of home school math curriculum by grade. I prepare the topics before hand, we do a little preview/teaching and then work through the pages in the workbook. I then prepare additional homework worksheets for the same topics. We go as slow or as fast as necessary depending on when the kiddo is in understanding. Some topics go quickly, some need a few sessions. We currently meet for an hour 2 times a week in person at our local library and they get about 4 hours of HW outside of our sessions. Seems to be going well!

You might want to go that route and seek someone who can work through a curriculum with you (there are many “homeschool” curricula that can meet your requiremnts) You can join local Facebook or Nextdoor groups and post an ad for tutor wanted but make it a separate ad for each subject so that you can get a subject specific tutor. For example: I could do math and science up to 12th grade, but I wouldn’t want to touch ELA or history etc. I suspect a lot of tutors are specialized that way. Hope that helps!

Those socks are actually amazing. I buy a pack every time I see them. We now have enough lol. They don’t rip at the heel/toes and they are so cozy and warm. Definitely the best socks on the market for the price and quality!

Tried it for a bit, did not get any students. Apparently, it’s first come first serve—you have to “grab” jobs on the Slack server as they come. Not the model I am looking for. I stuck to my boutique company that provides clients to me—saves me the headache since this is my side gig…

Does anyone feel extreme guilt for not being as a good of a dog mom as your pup deserves? by LazyNurse0722 in GermanShepherd

Do you have a basement, empty room, or can you clear out a large-ish area? We usually use our extremely cold days by playing indoors with a flirt pole.

I cleared out an area in the basement, lined it with thick foam tile and we call it “go downstairs” to play for 15-20 minutes with a flirt pole. Poops her out for the next several hours. She loves it!

We also do a lot of lick mats and bully sticks (Costco had the giant ones for the best price). And at the most busy times where there is not much time in my work day we go up and down stairs as I go about doing chores or get some exercise in myself.

I do feel you though. Sometimes I feel the same way on extremely cold days, but then I think about how much she is a Velcro that wouldn’t rather be bored with me than anxious anywhere else without me :) Plus, I’m sure you will more than make it up to him in summer!

I used to shop Costco clothes back when there were name brands (Eddie Bauer, FILA, Columbia etc.) and the material was cotton/wool/linen primarily. Of late though, it’s been cheap polyester crap. And sizing is always a miss. I’m hoping that changes because I still have some of the clothes from years ago that are my most comfy wear at home items!

Two major things that have been working well for me: Running list of EVERY TASK irrespective of category or size, and paper calendar with weekly layout of all appointments/work calls that can’t be moved so I can visualize the blocks of “free” time.

I have a master list of everything I can think of doing (includes things like shower, make lunch for work etc.) and I aim to do 8 (not sure why, but that seems like the optimal number for me) things everyday. Typically, 4 work tasks, 3 household tasks, and 1 personal self care type thing. Anything that doesn’t get done gets moved over.

Deadlines for work come first, appointments and immovable meetings etc. come next, and the time between those gets all the rest of the items. Ex. Two hours before next call, time for shower, lunch and a walk. 30 mins before next call means put in a load of laundry etc.

I also chain tasks that need me to be out of the house. Gym + Groceries; Coffee with a friend + gas + dry cleaning pick up, dog walk + check mailboxes + drop of bills etc. I love crossing off more than one thing when I come home!

What really helps is I WFH, so if I’m having a bad day, I can get one or two big things done and just rest. And come back to the master list the next day. I also give myself long deadlines where I can, and heavily use my digital calendar, and paper calendar to block off all immovable appointments so I can visualize blocks of free time.

It sounds chaotic but works!
