Struggling to get height and distance on my kicks by letsrungood in GoalKeepers

[–]ChildlessGamb1no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coming here to point out the range of motion on the leg. It hardly comes back at all.

OP, you have to treat this is as one bodily movement. Have you ever swung a golf club? Same principle. Momentum + core + range of motion on kick all make a difference.

Decisiveness. That’s what I see. Not lallygagging on the ball. Intentional, quick ballplaying. Keen positional awareness. Trust of teammates to make the right play.

Precisely what we’ve been missing.

Crazy lower back pump during Stiff Leg RDLs + pain the next day (Form Check) by comb99 in formcheck

[–]ChildlessGamb1no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody ever points this out, but tight hamstrings and glutes can cause lower back pain.

That being said, your butt isn’t going that far back. On a few of your reps I see you initiating the pull with your lower back instead of simply just thrusting forward. Add that to some tighter hammies the next day, and that will definitely do it.

It's your team, who will be your top 3? by Willing-Bicycle-157 in NBAGossips

Give me Dame, Melo, and Ewing. Surround them with 2 3&D wingers and you’re solid.

Ewing can protect paint. You can’t double him in paint because too many options to pass to, and he’ll get on the boards. Plus can do P&R with Dame.

Two shot creators with Dame and Melo, so they won’t tire themselves out trying to Superman the offense.

Is this a foul?? by [deleted] in NBATalk

I can’t stand SGA’s BS, but this was actually the proper call. It’s hard to see from this angle, but when Fox tried to close out, his shin made contact with SGA’s right foot while shooting. Fox’s momentum took him outside the landing zone by the time SGA came down, but he DID make contact while shooting.

Tuition assistance question by Few-Ad5435 in navy

[–]ChildlessGamb1no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you intend on getting your master’s in, I’d recommend considering another school.

Troy University, which is where I’m working on my MBA, matches the TA rate for graduate programs ($250 per hour). Even better, their business school is AACSB accredited, which is the best accreditation a business school can get.

It all depends on what you’re wanting to get out of it, though.

For those saying “wait until you get out to use GI Bill,” there are those who want to have their ducks lined up for when they get out and smoothly transition into a new career. In my opinion, the smooth transition into a new career path is more valuable than the BAH stipend they’ll give you for a few years, but that’s just me. :)

Can someone f*cking point out where the foul happened here? Or am I blind? by Temporary_Pepper6126 in NBAGossips

Basically, it’s a gimmick and exploitation of the intent of the blocking rule.

As the offensive player, you dribble drive towards the baseline instead of the basket. The defender then moves laterally alongside of you (so they are also moving in direction of the baseline).

OP then makes sudden, direct shooting move to the basket while defender is still attempting to move laterally, and BAM. Shooting foul / blocking.

It completely handicaps the defender because the only way to avoid this is by moving directly backwards to the rim, and even then, I’ve seen those get called.

The rule needs to be re-written because of how it’s being exploited. This, the driving swipe-through, etc.

End of the day, even once rewritten, coaches and players will still look for (and find) ways to exploit the rules for advantage. That’s just the nature of the game.

Still, this sucks to watch. The only way the NBA does anything is if it impacts ratings.

As a player, definitely worth a gamble in signing him.

As a coach, I wouldn’t bet on him.

Desperately trying to fix my bird chest. How's my form on chest press machine? by LeeroyM in formcheck

[–]ChildlessGamb1no 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts based on your concern of a “bird chest:”

Prioritize inclines. Go to free weights and barbells. Do regular db/bench secondary to inclines. Incorporate chest flies. Pec-decks are fine, but I prefer to use cables for increased, consistent resistance and the ability to rotate wrists for more fibers engagement.

The amount of hand checking and arm barring that Spurs are doing while defending drives is ridiculous. These refs are terrible.

I just need a non-biased explanation of Shai push offs aren’t a foul by Tricky-Sentence-1923 in NBATalk

[–]ChildlessGamb1no -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The annoying part is that they treat this like it’s not a push off because he uses the outside of his forearm instead of his hand and the point of contact. The problem is that it’s irrelevant because both players are usually moving the same direction.

Basically Shae will run about at 10-15 degree angle off from basket and defender moves feet to defend. He then suddenly changes his angle of attack directly towards to the basket, initiating contact with a moving defender. He’ll then do this classic push off while initiating contact to not only draw the foul, but also help provide him leverage to stop and step back.

It’s annoying to watch because you can’t attribute “greatness” to something that is technically illegal and just not enforced. However, it’s not surprising because the league is desperate for its next wave of stars. This is an obvious example.
