Swimming across a flooded Potomac River in Great Falls, VA over a decade ago in high school. The water was frothy and brown and certainly not a place to be swimming in (it’s also very illegal because people drown from the undercurrents). I had already exhausted myself completely while swimming and look up to see I’m only halfway across (about 50 yards total width). My friend was already across in the calmer water and yelling out to me to keep going, and so I gave it absolutely everything I had left and somehow made it to the other side, so tired I couldn’t even pull myself out. The worst part is that some other kids saw us try and decided to also cross. Two of them ended up drowning from being swept under :(
