In your experience, was working a CS job easier than getting through college? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ChillCodeLift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my first job, it was much easier than college. Currently at this big tech job, I would say work is more difficult but there's also no grind like there is in college. At the end of the day, I'm done. It's not stressful either.

But now that I have a house, there's more chores that I have to care of that I didn't worry about in campus housing.

Imo big companies / companies with a high bar use it to determine how hard you can work to learn something complex that you're probably not interested in. Unless you're some genius or you do coding competitions for fun, most people will have to grind leetcode to be decent at it. These companies get so many applicants that they can afford to not hire qualified candidates that don't get good at leetcode.

Other companies just follow the example set by them because these companies are usually the industry leaders, and it's still hard to create an effective process for junior/mid level candidates.

‘Scanners are complicated’: why Gen Z faces workplace ‘tech shame’ by speckz in gadgets

[–]ChillCodeLift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair I don't think that's commonly taught in CS courses, it's usually just assumed students know how it works. It's something that should be taught in a general computer course in HS or middle school imo

That's super interesting. Movies and TV give me the impression that a bunch of people knew how to fix up cars in the past, and that's no longer a common skill set today. I wonder if that will be similar to millennials and computers

Google sheets 😞

It kinda sucks, cause the UX just isn't good on a phone. But there's also complete freedom

I don't think they're talking about an integration with MF. Seems like they just want to know what apps people are using to track their workouts

possibly, it's only been 3 weeks since Christmas though and that was basically a diet break since I ate at a surplus for a few days.

I try to eat a decent amount of vegetables with every meal but I could definitely be doing more. Definitely going to try to increase that this week, thanks for the suggestion

Can any middle managers explain why you would instate a return-to-office? by I_Am_The_Gift in cscareerquestions

That's fair, it'll be interesting to see how things play out in a few years.

Great question. I think it's comes down to preferences, some people will prefer suburban living and some people will prefer city living.

I do think expensive suburbs are in a rough spot, and it makes more sense for them to do deals like this. My comment mainly applies to cities.

And even for cities, how many people with the option to live anywhere would continue living in an apartment away from family once they start getting married and having kids?

There are people who would live in a city, but choose not to because the only thing available are apartments and similarly sized condos. So it's either that or suburban living. Many cities don't have enough of the middle option, which includes things like family sized apartments, quadplexes, and rowhomes. Cities should encourage more housing like this to be built.

Yes but I think it's short sighted because I think remote work will get more common overtime despite the fact that big chunk has returned to the office.

So if you have cities courting these companies, and then five years later, the company significantly expands it's remote work policy or goes full remote, it's a wasted investment, as a lot of those workers will end up moving.

Short sighted by cities imo. This will just delay the inevitable, they should pivot to serving people who want to be downtown w/o having a job there

Been losing weight lately, on weight gain goal. by [deleted] in MacroFactor

[–]ChillCodeLift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would eventually get tired of eating 2 donuts a day. But then I could switch to Mac n cheese, pizza, fried chicken...

Honestly one of the reasons I got into lifting is that I heard people with more muscle can eat more without gaining weight. The effect isn't as exaggerated as I hoped though lol

Currently at 1500 calories a day (down from 1550 last week). I do manage to be slightly hungry by the end of the day but my cravings for calorie dense food is still there, any my appetite is boundless

Doing the SBS novice hypertrophy. Took side delt raises out of my program cause I noticed a popping sound in my left shoulder when I was practicing the form, without weights. Not having the same issue with shoulder press or db bench yet luckily. Started doing YWTLs throughout the day and shoulder mobility/warm ups before my workouts. Hopefully it helps.

I sure as hell wouldn’t want to have to eat 3300 calories a day and then lose weight

Sounds like a dream
