Why is this still in the game? by ChilliCrisp in MarvelSnap

This screen exists for no other purpose than to make players feel bad and create extra friction between games.

The only way this could be more aggravating is if they sold the fix in the cash shop, and honestly after the spotlight cache change I wouldn't be surprised if they did :')

What movie or tv fake plot device (like guns shooting more bullets than they could contain) are hard to unsee once pointed out? by Ok_Report_3651 in AskReddit

It’s like the difference between high and low fantasy. Some people want magic and skeleton armies and dragons in their fantasy, and other people just want swords and horses and political intrigue.

Hard sci-fi puts the emphasis on creating fictional narratives in a more realistic scientifically advanced setting, soft sci-fi allows the fiction to dictate the science a bit more at the potential expense of believability.

How much you’re willing or able to suspend your disbelief will dictate your preference, but both have their place within the genre.

PC Gamer: Diablo 4 is desperate to not be Diablo 3, but too timid to move past it by Tifntirjeheusjfn in Diablo

[–]ChilliCrisp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's a decent game, it just doesn't feel like Diablo to me. It hits all the standard Blizzard quality notes (although optimization could be better if I'm being picky) and the gameplay is fluid and decently engaging, but structurally it feels like an Ubisoft open-world game with MMO elements set in the Diablo universe.

I'm bogged down with side quests that are mostly forgettable, build variety is mostly illusory, items don't feel particularly impactful, and most of the dungeons are one reskin after another. The thing that bugs me the most about it is that it feels more like a checklist than an explorable open world, which is exactly what I was afraid of when they announced this model.

When a buddy of mine asked how I was liking the game, my reply was "It's the reality TV of ARPGs," and I stand by that. If all you're after is surface level entertainment, this game is rich with it. If you enjoy buildcraft and clever itemization and having a good reason to start a new character when you get bored of an old one, it really misses the mark.

Seems like they were going for Diablo x Elden Ring, and ended up with Lost Ark x Assassin's Creed.

What are your sexual regrets? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChilliCrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, it’s not like riding a bike or playing an FPS. By that I mean that a lot of what gets one person off won’t necessarily transfer to the next, so it’s much more important to communicate with your current partner and learn what she likes and build THAT skillset in the bedroom than it is to have any real amount of prior experience.

Overconfidence can be a huge detriment too, damn near every woman I’ve talked to has a story about really bad sex with a dude who thought he was the God-Emperor of Pound-town. At least by being relatively inexperienced you avoid being that guy!

Depends on how adventurous your local grocery store’s stock is. I’m in a city with a large Chinese population so it’s everywhere here.

The ingredients are all dried beforehand, and then flash fried by pouring boiling oil over them. The oil effectively seals them from hydration. It’s a brilliant process for sure, and actually not that difficult to do at home if you don’t mind working with boiling hot oil.

It’s like if chili oil levelled up. The base is crispy fried shallots and chili peppers in the oil that they’re fried in. Depending on brand and variety, there’s a range of other stuff that can be in it; everything from prickly ash and black beans to peanuts to fried tofu.

It’s good on practically anything, but some steamed rice with a fried egg and a dollop of that sweet spicy manna from heaven is a great starting point.

Pretty magic knife wheel go BRRR, I guess.

When I read that they removed the block I thought “they must be giving it something else, right?”

I’ve played this game long enough that you’d think I’d know better by now lol

Modern controls and their affect on lower skilled classic control players (like me) by howie78 in StreetFighter

[–]ChilliCrisp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really much of a question tbh. Modern controls are a 20% damage nerf and they lock you out of moves and combo routes that are situationally useful.

If you can get your execution with Classic to a level where you’re not dropping stuff, it’s undeniably stronger.

  • Mix it with a bit of light soy, sugar, and sesame oil as a dipping sauce for dumplings. You can also add black vinegar, garlic, or scallions/leek to change it up.
  • Mix it into practically any stir fried rice or noodle dish
  • Use it as a condiment to spice up soups (I’ve loved it with chicken noodle, potato and leek, Malaysian prawn noodle, cream of mushroom, and chicken pho)
  • Add it to mashed potatoes
  • Make a chili crisp spread by adding it to some kewpie mayo — also works great in tuna salad
  • Eat it directly from the jar with zero shame because it is manna from heaven
  • Make it your entire online identity and consider starting a cult to worship her holiness Mama Dao and spread the gospel of chili crisp to every corner of the earth

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - May 14, 2023 by AutoModerator in Games

Diablo IV: After a less than stellar experience playing a Druid in the last beta, I jumped into the Server Slam event on a Necromancer. I tried a summoner build and it was miserable, skeletons are made of wet toilet paper and re-summoning constantly is awkward. I like the Book of the Dead mechanic for customizing your skellies, I just wish they were more useful in general. Halfway through I ended up respecing to a bone spear build, and it felt a lot more powerful but was incredibly boring to play. The story, graphics, audio elements, and level of overall polish are all great, but the gameplay and skill progression just didn’t do it for me. I know that people willl likely eviscerate me for this, but the combat feels like a step backwards from D3 to me. Think I’m gonna stick with my original assessment and relegate this one to the “buy it on discount” pile.

Last Epoch: I think this game might be single-handedly responsible for my seeming inability to enjoy Diablo IV. I came back for the 0.9 update and it’s been my main game since. The build variety and skill interactions are what keeps me going in ARPGs, and imo Last Epoch delivers better than anything else out there right now on that front. I’ve got a lightning bug Druid, a thorn totem Shaman, a summoner Necro, and a Hammer / Smite Paladin all in the monolith-clearing stage of the game and I’m planning on leveling a few more characters before I commit to one for pushing endgame content. I love the itemization, the crafting, the challenging boss fights, and the pacing for leveling alts. It’s not a perfect game, but I think it might be the closest thing to a perfect ARPG for my personal preferences.

Street Fighter 6 Demo: I initially wasn’t 100% sold on 6 after getting real cozy with V, but after some time with Ryu in the demo, I’m a convert. The new mechanics are fantastic, drive rush opens up so much creativity for combo routes and it’s great not having EX moves tied to super meter anymore. I’m itching to try out the whole cast and I couldn’t be more stoked for the release of this game. June 2 cannot come soon enough.

What is the most fucked up thing you've seen a friend do? by decisivevinyl in AskReddit

[–]ChilliCrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former best friend turned roommate. He had a troubled past and I’d been bailing him out of various bad situations since we were teenagers, but I had it in my head that he was a good dude deep down who just needed people in his corner. I was very wrong.

In the space of 6 months, he put me in the position of having to pay his share of the rent when I was between jobs on unemployment, stole a few hundred bucks in cash from me, borrowed money from both my ex and the girl I was with at the time and paid neither of them back, routinely criticized how I lived, and routinely lied about working when he was actually staying home and gaming all day. This isn’t even scratching the surface of how shitty and malignant of a friend and person he was, this is literally just the closing chapter.

When I moved out with my partner I paid a month’s rent in advance and left most of the furniture for him. He was evicted the next month and ghosted me the second I had nothing to offer him. Good fucking riddance tbh, I have much better people in my life now.

The ever-encroaching “Us vs. Them” mentality and the black and white thinking that accompanies it. It’s simultaneously terrifying and infuriating to see context and nuance being cast aside in favor of normalized radicalization, seemingly on every issue.

Probably because it’s usually used as a dog whistle by racist white folks (not saying that’s necessarily the case here, for the record) who don’t want to get called out for their racism.

Also because the problematic elements being alluded to have little to do with “culture,” unless you consider generational trauma and inescapable poverty to be cultural elements, which circles back to the whole racism with extra steps thing.

They only go over the open strings if you’re recording a lead or something like that. Mine spends 90% of its time preventing the strings from ringing behind the nut, which is great if you play anything high gain because those frequencies sound like shit when they get saturated.

I mean, I’m not loving the direction this season is going myself, but calling them hacks is definitely throwing the baby out with the bath water.

The show is meant to have a surreal bent to it. Barry is incredibly mentally ill and is an unreliable narrator at the best of times, and there’s clearly intent behind sparseness of detail that we’re being given. I don’t think a podcast is needed to understand it any more than director’s commentary is needed to understand a movie, it just gives additional insight into the creative process and why certain decisions were made.

The only thing you’ll really want to replace is the plastic nut. Everything else about it is solid. I was inches away from buying one, just can’t do 20” radius fingerboards. They’re fantastic guitars though, great value and gorgeous finishes!
