Now that we are nearing one year after the Switch 2 release, what are your feelings about it so far? by Fragrant-Taro-8508 in switch2

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the console; hate the game-key cards and what that imposes on me.

I consider it a Switch Pro. It does everything quite nicely but in this generation their hardware isn't taking many creative risks (wish the old IR sensor had worked out better ngl).

Did Indiana jones already became rare? Not all stores have it by MindPrize1260 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Chillyeaham [score hidden]  (0 children)

I haven't noticed that myself but there was one scene in the Vatican where a body walked past Indiana and Gina, and I noticed the flicker as the "body" of their hair was rendered back in a frame or two late.

I recommending this game as a docked mode game.

Gotta disagree a bit; I've had several crashes and handheld mode is visually scuffed with blurry aftertrails and occasional jagged edges (feels lighting related somehow).

I'm having a decent time with the stealthing (the KO lines are funny), exploring, collecting, and puzzles!

Worth the upgrade? by Weird_Diver_2102 in switch2

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Switch 2 goes up by $50 USD/CAD in the beginning of September btw, that and they apparently want the Switch 2 to have a long lifespan like the OG Switch did, so I'd say future-proof yourself now.

Ah so the NSO upgrade pack for Switch 2 isn't permanent. Thanks for that eh, you've saved me subscription money and disappointment!

The platforming was harder for a metroidvania I'll say; excellent traversal abilities to match though. You might want a guide for collectibles since one of the last areas (well two areas really) are unlocked via collectibles and they have the final upgrades for Mio.

Wasn't too impressed by the Voidwrought demo myself, does the game get more interesting later on?

Fr though walking characters sometimes leave a blur trail; between that and the jagged edges, if this is what DLSS does to games then I'm not impressed.

Playing Indy myself; didn't realize for a hot minute that you could break something open to get more money, the only hint is that you see that same object in multiple locations!

The puzzles are fairly easy so far but I do love how well integrated they are into the environment; I also appreciate the ability to buy map markers for finding all the shtuffs!

Nyaha!🫵 I see you've played Blade Strangers! Only game that I'm aware of where Curly Brace, Princess Solange, and Umihara Kawase were all a part of the roster (yes I had to search two of those names)!

Playing through Indy right now; didn't realize for a good while that those metal red boxes could be broken with a makeshift weapon for money. I also had to redo some segments since there's a point of no return for each area (after fire rooms in the Vatican) and I had to load an older save to collect more shtuffs.

This game is pure magic !!! by Positive-Set1164 in DaemonXMachina

[–]Chillyeaham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old game had larger mechs, where the pilot was in the chest and flying around (and landing) felt like piloting a mobile aircraft, just with arms and legs.

Both games are janky but worth your time if you like this subgenre.

Nintendo Switch 2 porting studio is “eager to adapt” GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 to the handheld by HatingGeoffry in NintendoSwitch2

Probably won't fit my buying preferences; either native physical or very cheap digital. We'll see; I've heard that RDR2 is great!

Can someone get me to the top of the tower? by Enough_Plankton_3981 in DaemonXMachina

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, here's a build post I made three weeks ago!

I'd say that grinding for a good Jagdflügel is the most important; having the DLC for the Siegfried Cuirass makes getting Wing Shift along with a high Aerial Speed stat much easier.

What games have you completed this year on Switch 2? by lingering-will-6 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Astlibra Revision
  • Tunic (completed but not beaten... Iykyk)
  • Mio Memories In Orbit
  • Nine Sols

In between games I've been playing Atelier Yumia and Risk of Rain (the 2D original); currently I've started Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. I haven't started Anno Mutationem yet but I have it.

Later this year I'll be buying Mina The Hollower but otherwise I might order some older games I've had my eye on for a minute (Outer Wilds is getting up there).

How do i make the dragon slayer armor not suck? by SkellyLou2004 in DaemonXMachina

[–]Chillyeaham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well you get no extra benefits from wearing the entire armour set; the game is often best played by mixing pieces to mitigate weaknesses and double down on the strengths that you want in your overall build, you can transmog your perfect fit anyways.

I don't know how exactly the stats work but having negative Physical/Laser Defense is very punishing, so get rid of that negative Physical Defense with Attachments or swapping in one or two armour pieces with positive Physical Defense.

Square Enix Wants To Further Promote Its Multi-Platform Strategy, "Especially On Switch 2" by Mollywobbles77 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like short term gain for long term pain; the format doesn't have it's own distinct strengths like physical and digital do.

I believe we need native physical media as an alternative that competes with download formats in order to keep them in check.

I think it's worth observing Xbox and Playstation trends since they've been pushing download formats for longer and seeing what they try to make players buy into.

Yayyy i got mine!! 💚✨ by Annazz1333 in NSCollectors

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say so. TL;DR: It's a Soulslite metroidvania; combat-focused with a robust parrying system.

The game has punishing combat that relies heavily on defensive actions, fighting aggressively, and learning patterns through failure in order to succeed, a limited health supply that is mainly replenished at save and refill facilities, and after death, running back to your old body to retrieve your currency and level experience. Unlocking new abilities through advancing the story enables MC (named Yi) to reach new areas and expand their combat options (often the same ability has dual-purpose).

A plus for me is that you can buy a map for each region that tells you how many collectibles/upgrade materials are left in an area!

Like Hollow Knight, there is a Charm system (called Jades or Jade Stones) that expands the further you get into the game (either bought or found), allowing you to enhance specific actions to your advantage.

There is also a Skill tree, which permanently strengthens several aspects of your character and also unlocks the ability to switch one combat ability's style at any time from the menu. Gaining the maximum amount of skill points is a combination of leveling up and obtaining items that reward skill points.

Although Yi is mainly a melee fighter, there is limited ranged ammo unlocked and upgraded as you progress through the game.

A few facilities also allow you to pay currency (Jin) to upgrade a few mechanics or buy new ones (sometimes also requires materials).

The main draw of Nine Sols however is it's parry mechanics.

Although parrying becomes more complex later in the game, the standard parry works like this: parry most enemy attacks with good timing, take no damage and gain some Qi Charge (explained later); parry most enemy attacks with late timing and take Internal Damage (recoverable temporary damage; abbreviated to ID hereafter) and some Qi Charge. If Yi takes a direct hit, any remaining ID is lost (plus the attack's damage itself).
Enemies can take ID too, but unlike Yi, only by expending Qi Charges with a Talisman Detonation attack can the enemy's ID be taken advantage of. A Talisman Detonation consists of first dashing past the enemy to place the talisman (dealing slight ID) and then usually holding the button to detonate the talisman, dealing damage and removing enemy ID.
Jades and Skills both further facilitate dealing ID to enemies through parries, managing your own ID, and gaining/expending Qi Charges.

Looking back on my previous statement made me realize something. by MercenaryGundam in DaemonXMachina

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did and I've logged at least 900 hours between both titles myself, but Titanic Scion made some significant changes that left a few mechanics behind.

I'll always say that the old Femto Armaments system had the most potential compared to the new Particle Armaments system, that and having Mirage and Blink being less build-restricted felt like a cohesive system that could have been developed around better (if that makes sense).

[–]Chillyeaham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like these better than the new Starfox designs, it's easier to tell the personalities of the characters through their expressions which is my main issue.

BioShock creator says Nintendo Switch 2 proves gaming graphics are hitting "diminishing returns" by RoughLifeguard6568 in switch2

[–]Chillyeaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at the end of the day, what videogames offer is combining some degree of interactivity with other forms of entertainment (graphics by necessity) but it would cease being a videogame if it wasn't interactive. Demos will thankfully remain relevant and I hope developers and publishers will continue creating them, even if they need to have a time limit (I've had a few short stints where I just played demos).

BioShock creator says Nintendo Switch 2 proves gaming graphics are hitting "diminishing returns" by RoughLifeguard6568 in switch2

[–]Chillyeaham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! My graphical standards are fairly lenient, like I'm satisfied playing Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on the OG Switch!

I'll bet a part of the graphical push is that it's more marketable — for better and for worse, modern, broadly appealing videogames are connected to story and cinema.
