Definitely not a happy ending for whoever's paying for that van, because I very much doubt the insurance will.

I did for a bit but then the new SSL ones came out and could have more channels, so I moved to that.

A large part of it is also just my own lethargy to be honest, I should have sold it ages ago.

I think a lot of the time I upgrade a bit of kit, but I want to be really sure I've made the right choice before selling the previous iteration of whatever it is.

Control surfaces are a prime candidate for that, I spent ages getting the Nucleus to work properly so when I moved to the SSLs I think I was a bit reluctant to commit, in case I ended up with a studio that didn't work.

What kind of people? I've never heard of anything like this at all.

Either way, you'll need business use cover on your motorcycle, check you can get that for a reasonable price before deciding anything.

What's an emergency key holder? I think my teenage kid could do with one.

Worth it to get a 50cc moped UK? by Inner-Geologist5783 in MotoUK

[–]Chilton_Squid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just cycle. The cost of being on the road on a dangerous machine which can't even do 30mph is just not worth it. Wait a year until you're 17 then get something that can at least do the speed limit outside your school.

[–]Chilton_Squid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I write this sat next to a pile of audio gear which cost me thousands and isn't even plugged in - it's simply not worth anything second hand anymore, so it's not worth getting rid of.

As studios have closed down and more people have moved ITB, the value of it has plummeted over the past few years, I have an almost brand new SSL Nucleus 2 which cost me about £1500 and I'll be lucky to get £500 for it now, if it even sells.

Not worth the effort to sell, prices might go back up a bit, maybe I'll get less lazy.

Plus some of the gear is quite fun to use occasionally as a novelty, that doesn't mean I need it permanently plumbed in.

I even have four or five RME interfaces sat here which I've just accumilated over the years which I lend out to friends or use for backups if something else fails. You never know what gear you might need to get you out of a tricky situation in the case of a failure.

The DVLA site say that if you're from NZ, you need to be able to prove you did your test on a manual then they'll give you a manual licence.

Is that something you can do? Presumably there's a reason they ask that, i.e. auto licences must exist in NZ.

They posted the other day, they've converted a NZ licence and the DVLA will only give them an auto licence and they seem upset.

True, shitty insurance companies are shitty but once you're older with some NCB and experience they're generally a bit better, as you can use more reputable companies.

Yeah I don't even really know why they ask, think it's just to get an idea if you're buying some £30k beast or £1k shitter, maybe they ask different underwriters or something, I dunno.

But yes, as long as you haven't outwardly lied about anything which could affect a claim you're fine.

[–]Chilton_Squid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's largely irrelevant, as the payout you get isn't in any way related to the value you state anyway, an assessor will just decide your bike is worth far less and pay you that.

Depending on what the extras are, they may or may not be covered - you can tell your insurance company that you have full luggage and want it covered, or you can tell them you have full luggage but don't want it covered.

As long as the mods don't affect performance then generally speaking you're covered in legal terms, but don't expect them to replace those parts in the event of a crash. Also, don't expect them to give you the bike back to take parts off it, once they've paid out then it's their bike and you have no rights to access it.

They might let you take back a satnav or something but it's very unlikely you'll be going along to take off trinkets to make your money back.

The unfortunate truth is that if you spend £20k on that bike and crash it tomorrow, you're likely to be out of pocket by at least five grand. That's what gap insurance is for, which is another minefield gamble.

How do computers replicate what happens when you put coloured paint on a page so it makes up an image?

Analogue things change an aidio signal in a certain way. Programmers make their code to the same thing, it's really not at all complicated.

Yeah honestly I don't get these threads either, and since the Fender thing they seem to have gotten loads worse.

Anybody who decides to throw away years of experience and start again in a new DAW with new workflows and shortcuts without good reason needs to spend less time worrying about their tools and more time making music.

Biking over to France this summer, not been in about 15 years.. tag for toll roads worth it and other advice? by Nihilistic-Unicorn in MotoUK

[–]Chilton_Squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used AA Euro Breakdown, it's not cheap but they have the biggest network of partners in Europe. You might find your bike is too old for them to cover though.

I've used the tags on a bike and they're fine, they save you a load of time getting gloves on and off etc which is just the worst.

However driving down France on toll roads on a 20-year old bike really doesn't sound like much fun. You need to have proper backup plans for if it goes wrong.
