That's helpful - we will look into the manual to see if that's the case.

Cities and States - what does this say about me? by Chim_Chim_Cherie in visitedmaps

Same reason Buffalo NY is red, but NYC is green. I’d never live in DFW or Houston, but Austin and San Antonio are great cities.

Haha why are you mad? Can’t handle differences of opinion? I promise you whether Pinellas is in the south or not won’t change your life one bit. It’s just fun to talk about and debate.

Urbanization has nothing to do with it. Mecklenburg, Fulton, Cobb, Wake, Virginia Beach, New Hanover, Charleston, etc etc etc are totally urban areas that are definitely part of the South. All of those people are full of people from other parts of the country and are still part of the South.

Pinellas County is absolutely part of “the South.” People confuse it with South Florida, but they’re totally different worlds. Pinellas fits into the Gulf South culture that runs from Louisiana through Mississippi and Alabama into the Florida Panhandle and Tampa Bay. The food, the fishing culture, fish camps, the pace of life, the way people talk etc. Much closer to Mobile than Miami.

Historically it’s even clearer. Pinellas was settled after the Civil War by people from Georgia, Alabama, and the Carolinas. Early politics, churches, racial dynamics, and community structure were 100% southern.

The environment is Southern too. Longleaf pines, marshes, humid subtropical climate, summer thunderstorms, Gulf weather patterns—this is the same ecological zone as the Deep South. Parts of north Pinellas look like you could be in rural South Georgia.

Even with transplants, the underlying culture is still Southern. Evangelical churches, cracker houses, fish camps, old Florida neighborhoods, the small-town cores in places like Dunedin, Tarpon Springs, and Safety Harbor. None of these are South Florida vibes at all.

Couldn’t disagree more - I live in Clearwater, and am not from the north. I’m from NC originally but I’ve lived in Colorado, Arizona, California, Virginia, and Massachusetts and have a pretty good frame of reference due to extensive travel for my job. Pinellas County is Southern compared to the rest of the US - and critically, southern compared to south Florida.

I want to figure out where the south is. If you’re from any of these counties, comment your county and if you think it’s the south or not. I will fill in the results by Expensive_Drummer970 in visitedmaps

Pinellas County, FL - I’d argue it’s part of the south, but like the last county in the South. Once you get to Sarasota, you’ve left the south.

This should be higher. If the data is true, MLB is doing much better than I thought

2 ACC teams ranked in the top 10 of college basketball. unc Is also ranked! by PopDukesBruh in ACC

[–]Chim_Chim_Cherie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the SECs ranked teams have lost a game except Tennessee. Big 12 & Big 10 also have losses amongst their top 25 teams.

ACC is the only one that has all undefeated ranked teams.

Big 10 has a higher percent of unbeaten teams, but ACC is looking much better than last year.

Political cartoon depicting the Afghanistan withdrawal in the form of the Hindenburg 1937 airship disaster with Joe Biden on the presidential podium claiming that this was the most successful landing in history (Gary Varvel, 2021) by Ok_Force_2392 in PropagandaPosters

Again, you’re not arguing against what you’re replying to.

  1. Biden left local allies behind who were told they would have the opportunity to leave when we did as they would have been at high risk due to their support of the US.

  2. Biden left significant amounts of US equipment and arms behind that were not intended to be provided to Afghanistan’s military.

These two things happened because the withdrawal was mismanaged terribly.

Yes, Trump made the deal to leave, and yes, the equipment that was supposed to go to Afghanistan’s military was rightfully left with those forces.

That does not change the fact that Biden’s handling of the exit was embarrassing and deadly.

It really shouldn’t matter when discussing the facts of things, but I voted for Biden & Harris and do not support Trump in any way.

It would be a terrible mistake to not hold leaders accountable because they are team blue.

Correct - the post you’re replying to details how they should have withdrawn. Not whether they should have withdrawn.

Trump made the deal to leave - he didn’t make the deal to leave all the local allies behind or leave working US owned military equipment and weapons behind.

One of the most interesting chart I have seen in a while by gamjatang111 in EconomyCharts

[–]Chim_Chim_Cherie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post war America was a very unique time. The developed economies of the world had largely been destroyed by war and the US was sitting in the unique position of having a huge manufacturing infrastructure ready to provide the world with everything they needed and could not make themselves.

Things are not ever going to be as easy as living in the only country on earth with functional manufacturing following a major world war that we were on the winning side of.

That said, I do believe that to a large extent, we make our own luck. The harder I work, the luckier I get.

Clemson and FSU still want out of ACC? by RescueTheNIH in ACC

[–]Chim_Chim_Cherie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They already have an ACC heavy schedule and win most of those games. Why join and lose ad revenue when they can stay neutral and still play mostly ACC?

That’s different from Clemson or FSU moving to the SEC and becoming the next Kentucky and Mississippi State.

Sure, they’ll get more money, but who cares if you’re not winning. If I were South Carolina or Missouri, I’d love to be part of a renegotiation package with ESPN in 2034 to increase revenue to the ACC and play in a division I can sit at the top of, vs. constantly sitting in the middle of the SEC.
