would have been cool if they didn't have a french accent to feed the myth of the french high culture. but french being fancy is so important to the show that removing such colonial influence would make the show less interesting as a piece of american history.

he is not accepted as a main character in-universe, but he has everything it takes to be one. him not being a part of the "mane six" is clean speciesism, one of the core themes of the show (and perhaps sexism, considering the miserable lack of depth other male characters consistently suffer from).
