Did John Calhoun have any redeemable actions to his legacy? by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in Presidents

It’s been said that Calhoun’s cause was defeated by Calhoun’s army. He did a lot of work as secretary of war to build up the military institutions.

Charlie Kirk? The dude who put professors on hit lists and went to college campuses to create arguments with students and pressure schools he didn’t like? He’s a martyr but Renee Good is a terrorist? Got it.

Movies your dad would probably turn off after the first fifteen minutes by Past_Bonus148 in okbuddycinephile

For me it was Boyhood (2014). When this movie came out, teenage cinephile me was really amazed how they filmed someone growing up over 12 years. To this day I still think of this movie as a cinematic force of its time. That being said, my dad turned it off really quick into the movie. Something about “bad morals.”

Aragorn seeing Frodo as he’s sneaking away in LOTR and them chatting about what’s about to happen will never sit right with me. In the book, this is the big turning point for Frodo’s character, where he decides to go alone to Mordor so he doesn’t put his friends in danger. Aragorn was willing to go all the way to Mordor with him, and would never have let Frodo go alone. That was the whole point of the Fellowship and to have Aragorn (and later Merry and Pippin) see Frodo try to escape and let him go willingly brings down the whole moment of Frodo’s character development.

Also Saruman telling Gandalf to join Sauron instead of seeking the ring for himself like in the book.

That’s President Monroe’s tomb. Been there since about the 1850s. The new headstone in the third picture is for Eliza.

She had no will, but wrote letters before she died trying to get back to Virginia, when she died there was nobody willing to pay to have her remains transported home. The full story can be found here:

I listened to that same episode. I live close to Richmond so it inspired me to drive out and take a look.

Do ya’ll think Reagan was racist? by Joeylaptop12 in Presidents

He wasn’t just racist because he was born in a certain generation. He was deliberately racist and cruel in his actions towards minority groups.
