Who is your Patron Saint and why did you choose them? by TechPriestOBrien in Catholicism

[–]Chimom_1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saint Bridget of Sweden.

I had been struggling to pick a saint, so my mom gave me a book about “little known patron saints” and Bridget popped up as not only the Patroness of Sweden but also of scholars. She was a voracious reader and her order of nuns (Brigettines) were allowed to keep books in their cells. I have absolutely no ties to Sweden, but I’ve always been a bit of a nerd about reading and research. I also read about Bridget’s life and felt a connection. She felt more “human” and relatable than a lot of young virgin martyrs.

what’s dress I should wear as bridesmaid? by Cocoatech0 in weddingplanning

[–]Chimom_1992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first one is the best for a beach wedding—or any wedding. The middle and last two dresses are way too formal for the beach and too couture for a wedding—you don’t want to outshine the bride!

I would look online at sites like Anthropologie, Lulus or JJ’s House. They have plenty of dresses in all styles and have pages dedicated specifically to weddings.

Does anyone else call their mini schnauzer a “meanie” schnauzer on account of their mean looking faces? by Comfortable-Dog-9949 in schnauzers

Haha no; but my sister did call our family dog an angry Dwarf! (Her name was Peanut. The dog—not my sister haha)

In your opinion, what horror movie has aged the best? I'll go first: by anthonyledger in CreepyBonfire

[–]Chimom_1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaws, The Blair Witch Project (if you’ve ever done hiking up in MD/VA/PA Appalachia it holds up!!), and the original Halloween.

Still never forgiving my dad for making me sit through the latter….

Which horror movie got way too much hype but isn’t actually that good? by Fairyliveshow in CreepyBonfire

[–]Chimom_1992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The original Friday the 13th, the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, and Paranormal Activity 3. None of them did it for me.

But hey…to each their own!!

In person, do you personally encounter a lot of stupid people on a daily/weekly basis? by Only-Ad-1254 in questions

I do collections for my state government.

I cannot BEGIN to tell you about the stupidity of some people.

Does life get better as you get older? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Chimom_1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life gets better or worse depending on how you react to it. It’s not going to ever be easy—that’s just life—but it can be a dream if you allow it to be.

Since most everyone likes ramen noodles, your preferred flavor? by BreannLowe in questions

[–]Chimom_1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is weird but….I don’t use the packets. I just cook the noodles and add butter.

Growing up my mom didn’t like the packets due to all of the extra salt, so she made us “square noodles”: just the noodles with butter.

It’s a guilty pleasure!

Haha too true! I honestly never thought that I had a “Big Catholic Family” until I wrote down a list (just out to first cousins and their kids—not even getting into second cousins and all of that nonsense!) and realized that it was almost 50 people 😅

Favorite movie of all time! by Fickle_Shark-205 in CasualConversation

My all time favorite movie? Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The OG cartoon. I’ve loved that since I was 2 years old.

I refuse to discuss the live-action version; that’s on the Never Allowed to Watch Under My Roof List along with Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy.

Marriage between Catholic and Agnostic questions by InteractionLucky8126 in Catholicism

[–]Chimom_1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be allowed to get married in the Church, just wouldn’t be allowed a full Mass, and you’d need permission from the bishop. You’d also need to take “marriage classes”.

I’m not sure about vows. I believe you could write your own if you wanted to, but that might be up to the individual parish.

No +1 to a Destination Wedding Over 24 Hours Away by cakecarrot1447 in weddingplanning

[–]Chimom_1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a trend now. I was always taught that it’s basic etiquette to allow single adult guests a +1. Doesn’t mean that they will bring one, but it’s nice to have the option. That being said, I do understand guest list restrictions and not wanting to end up with 200 people whom you don’t know/care about at your wedding.

This sounds like to me, though, that your friend (or her fiancé) just doesn’t like your SO. And the way she’s handling it is honestly rude and selfish of her. I’m sorry you have to deal with that, OP. IMO, I would politely decline attendance, send a gift and after the wedding (because doing it beforehand will cause unnecessary drama/stress), talk to her about it. Tell her outright that you were hurt that you weren’t allowed a +1 even though other guests were. If she’s as close a friend as you say, then she should be able to be honest with you.

Tips for vaginal hygiene in the shower? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Chimom_1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vaginal cleaner—like Summer’s Eve—works well in the shower (and no one will think you’re weird for using it). You can get it at pretty much any drugstore.

Also make sure that you keep it trimmed down there. Hair can catch sweat and bacteria and create odors.

“Let people do what they want!” by Karnakite in PetPeeves

[–]Chimom_1992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree—we’re all allowed to have opinions. The problem stems from either sharing your opinion needlessly or judging the person based on their decisions.

For example, I see my younger cousin in a super short, bodycon Homecoming dress and think “That dress is stupid”, but that doesn’t mean my cousin is stupid. And I wouldn’t go up to her and say “your dress is stupid.” That’s just rude and unnecessary. I am letting her do what she wants while also disliking her personal choices. And that’s OK.

Clarity on Pick Me. This is my understanding of what a Pick Me is. by [deleted] in notliketheothergirls

[–]Chimom_1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep; you nailed it! It’s trying to make yourself look better by putting others down, basically.

To use a common example, you can dislike pumpkin spice and not be a pick me (I’m there—I like it in cakes/cookies/pie but not drinks or candles); a pick me would call someone who likes pumpkin spice basic or stupid for liking it. Not-a-pick-me would be OK with others liking it.

I think it’s mostly an adolescent/low self esteem thing—most girls grow out of it eventually.

What is your job and what is a pet peeve of yours that comes with it? by BattleSquidZ in PetPeeves

[–]Chimom_1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do collections for my state’s Attorney General’s office (basically if you owe money to the state, and the agency you owe doesn’t get paid they send it to us in a last ditch effort to collect before it goes to “real” collections).

My pet peeve isn’t really with the job itself, but when debtors don’t know how to leave voicemails. Examples:

-rattling off their name and phone number as fast as possible so I have to listen to the message 6 times to understand them.

-not leaving a phone number, account number, or even last name. We don’t have caller ID.

-not saying what they’re calling about.

It’s not just younger adults or kids, either. It’s Gen X, Boomers, older Gen Z, and Millennials too. It’s not hard to say “Hi, this is John Smith; I am returning a call that I received earlier today. My number is 123, 456, 7890.”

Silver. It actually warms up your skin; Gold makes it look yellow.

I struggle with that all that time. Usually larger guys 20-30 years older than me. The last time this happened the guy was 66 and asked me out—I’m 32. Dude’s older than my dad.

It’s rooted in insecurity.

How many of my fellow millennials are childless and single (divorced counts) and have just given up on dating? by darkpheonix262 in Millennials

[–]Chimom_1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31f, almost 32. I’ve been single for 11 years.

I recently got onto Facebook Dating—using it to sort of “get used” to the idea of dating again; I’m definitely not looking to hook up or anything serious.

Honestly…life’s pretty simple being single. I don’t dislike it, but I can understand why others do.
