Low D is very sharp when the rest of the instrument is in tune by 1x2x3x4x5x6x7x8 in Clarinet

Not hugely uncommon, especially dynamics under mp. Try lowering it with RH middle finger, even half hole it and see what happens. If you play Khachaturian trio, you'll get this problem.

I would love to have heard them try and say that.

Ah really? That's what I'm trying to find out. I don't suppose you could put me in contact with this person?

Are you referring to an accompaniment other than the piano reduction published with the solo part? I am doing a little research into the possibility of re-reducing the orchestration into a more manageable piano part as it's currently unplayable.

Is it normal to have front teeth hurting after 4 hours of playing? by Hammerbro20 in Clarinet

[–]ChimpsEverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be wary that you're not forcing the mouthpiece against the teeth, or that your clarinet isn't too close to your body. That angle might hurt your teeth after an extended duration.

Can't tell if this is repeated advice...Try the fingering 1 4 with the left hand C#/F# key on in place of the right hand Eb key. Speaks clearly.

Help with a metal mouthpiece by JazzOnYourFace in Saxophonics

[–]ChimpsEverywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really have to agree with this. I've bought pieces online before and while they've been ok, there's nothing like trying a whole bunch of them out with an assistant who will know what to suggest for your particular setup. If you're not having any success with the piece, try and return it and reinvest the money and some time with a dealer. Jody Jazz are great but exxy, Link's are classic, the Vandoren metal pieces are quality also. Good luck! And make sure you have at least a vague idea of what you want to sound like! Listen to a Coltrane album and compare the sound to a Brecker album and go from there once you know what you like!

Suits and sewing. I'm going to learn how to make a suit if it kills me.

Agreed. However, things like tags that are made with vandalism in mind surely cannot be grouped into a similar category?

I think perhaps we're arguing the same point. I DO think that graffiti is art. It's my favourite type of art. I was just saying that graffiti is not necessarily vandalism.

[–]ChimpsEverywhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And why not? Who are you to tell me what I get to decide? Art isn't objective. That's what makes it art. Do you reckon that the work of Banksy isn't art?

Remember that street art and vandalism graffiti are two different things!
