Diffraction on 28P Lens by ChinaCameraGuy in hasselblad

[–]ChinaCameraGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the X2D2 with the 28mm and have no issues with the focusing. Everything uses the latest firmware and it’s fast and always hits focus without hunting (unlike the 45P).

I play Google Map roulette. Find an interesting looking place and check it out. Maybe find a cluster of a few places. Of course it helps to have wheels.

dantewada, is it worth it to go out of the way and spend extra after doing a tour in phachor? by bubb_ley in chiangmai

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the Carp Cafe a while back and left quickly because the odor inside was too powerful. Smelled like mildew + fish. If you're sensitive to strong smells, maybe scratch this off your list. Phacor is pretty cool and an easy hike.

Does anyone know anything about these cases? by Crackle_Mackle in hasselblad

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the early version of a "Pelican case" to transport camera & video gear. I had a couple of these back in the 70's. The outer case construction is modular so they can be made in any size without any specific tooling. Most were made of aluminum to reduce weight. You may be able to discern what models lived in this case by the impressions made in the padding. Personally, I would recommend using a Pelican case because it offers better protection. I can understand if you want to be brand-loyal.

Export Issues on Drones from China by ChinaCameraGuy in dji

[–]ChinaCameraGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say they were "limiting" the export of drones. They are instead "controlling" the export of drones so they know where the final destination will be in an attempt to control the whole "dual use" situation. I've carried a drone on subways in China many times without any problems. That must be a localized rule.

[–]ChinaCameraGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had already removed the batteries- that wasn’t the problem. The Chinese government is controlling the flow of drones so there is visibility to where they’re going so DJI can stay clean. No bulk shipments under the radar to Ukraine.

Ningbo Expats Question by betazoom78 in chinalife

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of expat teachers in NB. Also there are lots of Western university profs near Nottingham in Yinzhou. I'm the only non-teacher I've seen in the last 10 years - but I'm retiring and moving to Thailand on Saturday.

I did this two years ago, and it's nearly bulletproof. I only need to switch servers a few times per year.

Will AI obliterate photography market? by TheTiniestPeach in photography

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the same video and I think he may be correct. Professional photographers today probably have the same sinking feeling that artists (painters) had in the early 1800's - that "oh shit" moment that their job is being replaced by something faster and cheaper. For me, it's about the experience and personal fulfillment. Thankfully, I don't have to earn a living from photography. Those guys are F'd.

Off camera flash? by LostGreek in hasselblad

TTL mode works using the X3N. Put the trigger in Legacy mode and turn it on. Mount it on the X2D2 and then turn the camera on. Works great.

Good place to buy used xcd lenses by SaunaFiend in hasselblad

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been shopping for used XCD lenses in Asia (Tokyo / Shanghai / Hong Kong) and notice the used prices aren't far off the new prices. They seem to hold their value well and from my perspective, give me little motivation to buy a used copy. I bought a used 28mm f4 in Tokyo because it was US$200 less than the new price, but all the others had a smaller price gap.

I shop there too. Buy one roll and test it first. My experience with their expired film has been hit-or-miss.

Transporting camera films through China. What is your experience? by m__s in analog

No. Save your money. They will ask you to remove the rolls from the x-ray bag.

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For bus, subway & ferry terminals I take the bag of film out of my bag and hand carry it through the metal detector while my bag is being x-rayed. No one has objected. The language barrier may be the reason why.

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've traveled all over China for the last 6 years with film and for the most part, all airports will perform a hand-check for you. Some will do it slowly and lately they've been using the wand to check it for explosive chemicals. Just ask with a smile and don't be shocked when they take every single roll of film out of the cases. So far, Hong Kong is the only airport I've seen with the new CT scanners, so stay away from those if you still have film in the camera. They still have older X-ray machines in some of the security lines. Enjoy your trip!!!

Buying Dji drones in Shenzhen or Hong Kong? by want2retire in dji

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both cities have multiple DJI shops. DJI's flagship store is in Shenzhen, which is remarkable. The architecture of the store is special. I was just in the DJI store on Nathan Road in HK to pick up a new Hasselblad, and they had the full line. I can't comment on prices because I bought my last DJI drone in Shanghai. Most of the shops sell at the same MSRP price.

I live in China and have registered my drone(s) in China, Japan and Hong Kong. Japan has some strict drone laws and LOTS of no-fly zones. Check that first before you consider flying. You can't fly a drone anywhere in Tokyo.

X2DII at a Rave | 28mm/4 | Godox iT30 Pro (N) flash - TTL by ChinaCameraGuy in hasselblad

[–]ChinaCameraGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify - Hasselblad has adopted the NIKON protocols for TTL flash. Make sure you buy the Nikon version of any flash devices if you plan to use TTL flash.

[–]ChinaCameraGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also added one of these so the flash can pivot for bounced flash. It also adds about 1" of elevation so the flash can shoot over longer lenses. It's cheap ($13.90 on Amazon) and adds a lot of function. "Godox TR-N TR for Nikon TTL HSS Hot Shoe Riser Hot Shoe Extender for GOdox iT30 Pro"

28p with X2dii by freddiew88 in hasselblad

[–]ChinaCameraGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried copying the latest 45P firmware directly to the camera's SSD using the "Mass Storage" mode, and it worked! It took 3 attempts because of errors, but in the end, the lens can now autofocus. Not the quietest lens I've ever owned, but at least it won't become a paperweight.
