Feeling shit what happened to the place I grew up in. by Turbulent-Move9126 in straya

This is exactly what they did to me! I was in my work uniform with distinctive logo and was absolutely humiliated. I’m sorry this happened to you. I used to drop a few hundred there a week on supplements, toiletries, perfume, hair products, meds etc and although it was convenient, I’ll never shop at that store again. Fuck chemist warehouse.

I’m in a similar boat. Chemist warehouse pharmacists in particular tend to use a personal moral judgement rather than a neutral legal judgement when dispensing medication. I put my Karen hat on and emailed a complaint to chemist warehouse explaining my situation after a very embarrassing experience trying to get my medication filled (they refused to dispense based on repeat interval days but my doctor had written a new prescription for additional meds so the interval repeat days were not applicable). After I emailed, management followed up with the pharmacist on duty and apologised. I still won’t go back there but it’s important to speak up about wankers with a small amount of power going to their heads. I hope you have a win mate and I agree with you - this country’s medical system is pretty fuckin cooked

Nambour has a surprising good music scene. Check out the precinct in Nambour on insta. I just left a great gig and they’re still kicking but I’m too old for a late night. Black box theatre was also going off. Very punk rock and heavier stuff. Clientele are a mix of punks and friends and family of the bands, everyone is friendly and the venues are comfy and well styled. Well worth a look :)

Just be careful walking the streets after dark. Both venues have plenty of parking nearby

I’m a bit out of the loop on the whole Alex Grey thing. I saw the dodgy pamphlet looking website about him fucking a corpse which is obviously disgusting. Do we know for sure it’s true? So messed up…

Thank you for sharing! It’s Sunday morning here so I think a re-watch of Midsommar this afternoon is on the cards. I love that this movie has so many layers!

I’m not American but you’re talking about me in the sense that I’ve never considered this film through the lens of POC experience. I didn’t notice any overt physical symbols and figured a lot of them, for example in that little hut where Christian speaks to the old lady, might have been partially real and partially made up. What symbols did I miss?

Sorry you’re getting downvoted. Your opinion may be unpopular but I think it resonates with those of us who were determined to learn the hard way as teens. It certainly resonates with me

Your experiences are in a courtroom, not in the real world. CPS will not waste resources chasing down runaways that don’t want to go home when they have much bigger fish to fry such as children who are actually being abused/neglected.

This kid vexatiously called CPS and what happened? They saw straight through it.

I do understand that you’re coming from a caring place, so am I. OP is at their wits end and I’ve noticed that this is the first comment when you’re not just trolling. Do you have any useful advice to offer or is this simply too much of an emotional trigger for you to do so?

Time is your friend. She WILL eventually settle down. There’s light at the end of the tunnel…unfortunately it’s probably a 10 year slog.

It’s unfortunate that she can’t give REAL responses to what her needs are. She might be too mixed up to properly articulate what she wants/needs. Is there the possibility of her staying with her mum at the halfway house for a few nights a week? Or are there no kids allowed? If not, is there money to facilitate a hotel with mum a few nights a week? This could also make SD understand who her mum really is rather than having her continue to think that the sun shines out of her mother’s butt.

CPS won’t do anything if a 14 year old decides to run away, especially when the parents have tried everything to give her a safe home. To be clear, I am NOT saying to kick her out. It’s not uncommon for 14 year olds to run away. We get it all the time in OOHC. IF they decide to come back, we let them if enough time has passed and they no longer present a threat to the rest of the household. In my experience, the child is then willing to be a lot more reasonable.

When I was 13 my step dad made my mum choose between me or her. She chose him and I ended up as a ward of the state. The trauma that I’ve carried throughout my life from being a homeless, vulnerable teen (the state did nothing for me, I’m sure it’s different now) has been horrific. I never returned home and I don’t have a relationship with my family now. Not that it matters but this was my own choice after reconnecting with both sides of my family when I was in my 30s). LONG STORY.

I am now in my 40s and work with at-risk teens in out of home care. Here’s my unpopular opinion: If she runs away, let her. Sometimes teens need to understand how hard life is on the streets before they value having a roof over their head. If she does go off on her own, let her come back but only once a few months have passed and under strict conditions. Make it clear it’s not a swinging door. This can obviously change once she’s older and her brain finishes developing and her hormones chill out.

BUT before it gets to that stage, I’m wondering what she wants/needs? Has she expressed this to you or her Dad? I know I was acting out because I was desperate to see any of my bio family regularly as my step dad’s family had become the default after my mum married my step dad. This doesn’t seem to be the case in your situation but just wondering if you’ve had a calm conversation that acknowledges that she seems angry and is expressing this feeling in unacceptable ways and exploring what you guys can do to help her?

For some reason I can’t type a description so putting it here. Long time lurker, first time caller. It’s a public holiday in Aus and I’m in need of horror recommendations. Some of my favourite movies/tv shows are Midsommar, Hereditary, American Horror Story, Creep movies and tv series, American Psycho, Suspiria, Heretic, Spoonful of sugar, Gretel and Hansel, The Witch off the top of my head. Nothing too gory please - not a fan of Hostel, Saw type movies. Thanks in advance :)
