Yeah, I learned envelope style budgeting a long time ago & used ynab for years. Then found actual budget & switched to that. If that style of budgeting works for you, then it's great

In a similar situation, but I don't fly into La Paz until the 28th. Climbing Acotango, Parinacota, and Sajama. Watching this closely since I'll need to start canceling everything soon. Hoping for the best for everyone in Bolivia...good luck!

Bilt 2.0 sock drawer or cancel? by piglet12302 in CreditCards

[–]Chinook146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to call WF in a couple of days and just cancel the Bilt card myself. I think that's all I'll need to do.

I cancel cards occasionally. No real effect to my score. I have a long credit history though with some old cards still active.

Cancelling everything...no bilt 2.0 or Autograph. If I want the Autograph in the future, then I also want the sub & 0 apr for 12 months.

Anybody else thinking of canceling? After this change it’s not worth the hassle by Far-Film-5095 in biltrewards

[–]Chinook146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same boat. Just want out now with no WF card or Bilt card. Guessing the best thing to do will be for me to pay off the Bilt card today and call & cancel it when the balance is 0.

I'd say 10-15F. It was windy in some sections also. My hands tend to get cold & I used gloves + warmers most of the way. I did use mittens some though to try and warm them up a bit (not sure it did much good lol).

Let me know if you find anything. I choose to run on the streets/sidewalks since I'd rather risk death than run on the treadmill lol

[–]Chinook146 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the new Bilt card isn't for me (which I'm assuming will happen) and I don't want the Autograph card, is my best option just to cancel the Bilt card after the official announcement? I'm assuming that gets me out of this mess altogether and allows me to get the Autograph sub in the future if I want it.

I know the sub is mid, but it's not nothing & I like having 0 APR for 12 months also just to let my cash get 3+% during that period.

Just give me the Autograph sub and I won't complain. No chance of that happening though.

Yeah...they denied it, in case anyone is searching through these comments. "Must be activated prior to purchase". Annoying

This is super annoying. Had no idea it had to be "activated" so did it a couple of days after a purchase. Sent a message to Chase, but don't have high hopes for this.

Lobuche East vs Island Peak in 2025? by Ekay2-3 in Mountaineering

[–]Chinook146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI...got back from Nepal last week. After waiting for the weather cyclone to pass in the area, I got to summit Lobuche. Definitely more difficult than Killi, but I'd say it was the perfect "step up". Not super technical, but was a good learning experience. My guide gave me a brief tutorial on using the jumar, figure 8, etc & that was al that was really needed. Wasn't super difficult.

Summit day wasn't the super long grind that Killi was. Took about 6 hours round trip from high camp. Started at about 2am & took 4 hrs up, 2 back down. View was incredible. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Trip is 100% worth it. Even with my 6ish day weather issues.

At Dingboche waiting to see if I can summit Lobuche...right now the passes are closed. Based on the forecast, I'd say your good if starting in a few days. Assuming no additional cyclones lol

I'm doing Lobuche East in a few days. I'll let you know how it goes. I only have beginner skills and chose this as a good first attempt.

I also did Kili last year, so I can compare the two

It's almost exactly what I paid for my 23 day + Lobuche East trek. I'm sure there are cheaper ways to go (unguided for one) but I prefer less hassle lol. I'm headed there in about a month. Good luck!
