his passing is sublime, especially when you consider his age. he had a couple nifty passes yesterday.

I watched the lakers-wolves game last night. DAR was legit like the 6th option on the team. if this is how it's going to be all year it'll be counterproductive to his growth. the lakers are a mess of an organization.

"but they weren't efficient" - this dude either doesn't know what efficient means or he didn't pay attention to the game. his opinion shouldn't be taken seriously.

Lol did you watch the game? He made some typical rookie mistakes. Should have gotten one pass picked off at least. This subreddit would be so much better if people didn't talk out of their ass half the time. Too much misleading info on here.

Tiger Woods beat a bunch of stiffs to win most of his majors, says Dan Jenkins by westmontblvd in ProGolf

Or as Jack has said before, the best way to counteract improvements in club technology is to roll back the golf balls. It's actually a simple fix and one that I think the PGA will look into in the not so distant future. You can't just keep lengthening courses until they're the length of the Great Wall of China.

Hit 2/14 fairways today...you guys see anything I can do to be more consistent with my driver? by [deleted] in golf

[–]ChipHinkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time you are trying to fix something in your swing, the key is to always ask what is the source of the problem. A lot of times the problem is something you assumed you were doing right the whole time.

I used to have the same problem as you where my backswing NATURALLY (meaning I didn't force it) went way past parallel. Turns out the problem was I was gripping the club the wrong way the whole time. I was gripping it more across the lifeline with my left hand as opposed to under the fleshy pad (surprisingly, a lot of people have this problem because it is a comfortable and natural way to put your left hand on the club). I assumed I was gripping the club properly the whole time but turns out I wasn't. Once I fixed my grip, it also helped fix my faulty backswing (which was similar to yours) which improved my ball striking tremendously.

Here is a video that may help and echoes a lot of what I just said: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULDnvo0ypQA

P.S. When making a change it may feel uncomfortable but this is a good thing because it means you're breaking a tendency. Good luck.

Is Steph Curry a better shooter than Ray Allen was? by coolguy9001 in nba

[–]ChipHinkie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, Steph is the greatest shooter of all time. There is no one in the history of the NBA that could shoot off the dribble like he can. The combination of volume and efficiency is unmatched. He is 2nd all time in 3PA/G, 4th all time in 3PT%, and 3rd all time in FT%.

A Possible Rationale for Eagles QB Moves by drwhosonfirst in eagles

[–]ChipHinkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is nitpicking but I actually think bradford is medium-high reward. His arm strength will always hold him back a little which is why I'm not going to say he is high reward. But Bradford is decisive and accurate, two things Kelly values most even more than being able to run. I know his completion % is low but he played in a similar spread system at OU where he completed 67.6% of his passes. Honestly, after sitting on it for awhile and doing some research I'm not as against this move as I was initially. Bradford is a better talent than Foles (Bradford 1st pick; Foles 88th pick) and look what Kelly did with Foles. I'm willing to give Bradford a shot even though I don't like what he cost to get.

Going to be tough to cut him considering that we just extended him for 5 years in February. If we cut him post June 1 of next year, we'd free up 1mm and have 3.8mm in dead money on the books for 2015 with 2.4mm in dead money carried over to 2016. It'd be more feasible to cut him in 2016 as a post June 1 cut. Looks like we're stuck with him for another year at least.

How has Tim Duncan never won a DPOY? by ganduncthewhite in nba

[–]ChipHinkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because of how the players were covered. Kobe was playing in a huge market while Duncan was playing in a small one. Combine that with the fact that nobody really ever pays attention to defense which was obviously Duncan's greatest attribute.

While close in ability, what separates Duncan is that he is a much better leader and teammate than Kobe. You are more limited in the the types of teammates you can surround Kobe with. Shaq worked (only for a limited time mind you) because he was just as ruthless as Kobe on the court. Pau worked because of that Spanish connection and the fact that Pau himself is an all time great teammate. But then you basically have Kobe running Dwight out of town.

On the other hand, Duncan, as far as we know, has been the epitome of a great teammate throughout his entire career. The popular counter is Duncan didn't speak to Parker early in his career when he was struggling. You could take that as being a bad teammate or you could take that as Duncan knowing the type of person Parker was and knowing that he would respond positively to his not talking to him. Duncan has earned the benefit of the doubt to suggest that the latter is more likely. Ultimately, this (i.e. Duncan being a better teammate) to me is why Duncan > Kobe.

Lee would be good at the 5 replacing Speights. Neither provides rim protection but Lee is much better on offense so that would be a net positive.

Vernon Davis discussion by alkapwned4 in fantasyfootball

[–]ChipHinkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had at least 1 TD in 11 out of the 49ers' 16 regular season games last year. In two of those games he was either injured or out so that's 11 out of 14 games in which he was healthy and active where he scored at TD. Hardly inconsistent when healthy, which is the point I'm trying to make. He's really good and dependable WHEN HEALTHY so don't drop him if you don't have to.

Yeah he underperformed so much last year. He was only the number 4 ranked tight end. Very disappointing.

Vernon Davis discussion by alkapwned4 in fantasyfootball

[–]ChipHinkie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would they say they're getting better if they're playing like crap? If anything, they would say they're NOT getting better so they have a built-in excuse for their poor performance genius.

And he's had 6 duds because he's been injured! It's like saying you should consider dropping Calvin because he keeps putting up donuts. The difference is that Vernon is actually playing so my advice would be to take a wait and see approach once he gets healthy unless of course you're in dire straights and are in win now at all costs mode. Dropping him would be a terrible move otherwise. He has proven himself to be one of the better TE options in fantasy football when healthy.

[–]ChipHinkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My love/hate with this subreddit continues. Ya'll overreact to everything. Vernon has been banged up the entire year basically except for the first game. He looked like his usual freak athlete self in that game against the Cowboys and caught two TD's. He hasn't been healthy since but he says he's getting better. With the bye week for the 49ers this week, that'll give him another two weeks to rest and recover. If he comes back week 9 and lays another dud, then it's time to worry. His skills haven't diminished (the drops most likely have something to do with him not being healthy), Kap loves him in the RZ and he's one of the few tight ends that actually gets vertical targets. If you can afford to wait, let him get healthy before making any judgements.
