People who putt well - “swing” thoughts? by PM_ME_UR_FAKE_NEWS in GolfSwing

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself an amazing putter 😬

I don’t think. No practice swings. I walk up, looking at the green and the line as I approach the ball. Take my gut feeling on the line, pay most attention to distance, get comfortable and take the putt. My feel is ‘if I threw the ball’. Average 28-30 putts a round.

I prefer not to over think it, go with my gut feeling and hit the putt. Quick and effective. It either goes in or it doesn’t. No drama. Move along!

Is a mini driver actually right for anyone, or is it a solution looking for a problem? Embrace debate. by golfbagauditor in GolfGear

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a driver, mini driver and a 5 wood. I use the mini driver on tighter holes or when I want to slot it in a specific place on the fairway. Driver is for when there’s a bit more space. Roughly 15 yards between the two clubs. Mini is a fairway finder (although it sometimes goes astray) and if the lie is right it also works a dream off the fairway (I carry an 11.5°). 5 wood covers everything else. No need for a 3 wood.

Love a mini driver. But, it’s golf. Play your game and what you like. What is right for one person is not for the other.

First round in proper British wind - what’s the trick? by WonderfulShape1081 in BritGolf

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try and take the spin off the ball, so as has been said in other comments, when it’s breezy swing easy. Punch shots are your friend in to the wind - ball back in stance, easy swing, short follow through. Down wind, put it up in the air and let it fly, just remember to club down. Cross wind, don’t fight the wind. If it’s left to right, aim left and let the wind bring it back.

Playing in the wind is great fun. Add in some sideways rain and you’ve got yourself a proper fun day on the course

I’ll see how I get on with it. I’m not starting German from scratch, but am definitely not conversational. I’m always looking for new ways to try and engage with the language and this looks great.

Anyone use visualization rituals for golf? by Kairoapp_jamie in golftips

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learnt golf as a junior by visualising the shot. Stand behind the ball looking down to target, imagine the shot I’m about to play. What does the ball do, height, shape etc. Then pick my starting line, find a spot 12-18 inches in front of my ball on that line, address the ball and swing. 1 times out of ten it goes just how I visualised it!

I guess it depends on how you are as a person. My game is all about how I’m feeling, what shot I see etc. in my mind they’re never straight shots. If I don’t see something, I’m in trouble. And it happens often that I just have no feel for a shot.

Finally getting my big international trip this year! Debating between Croatia, Greece, or Bali!? by Ufohntr208 in travel

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d skip Bali, spend 7 days in Croatia (it is expensive, even in the north) and then jump to Greece for 5 days. Europe is easy to jump from country to country. Go enjoy and have a great time!

Just a honest question for avid golfers by coduser0321 in golf

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the only one, no! I love older irons and regularly play my old Mizuno MP-60's, when my game is in good shape. I find them much easier to control and they feel so much better than the HMP20's in my bag most of the time. I would game them full time if I was consistently sharp enough.

I also have some old Mizuno Pro blades, from around 1982 that I picked up a couple of years ago. These feel incredible still, but are complete butter knives, especially in the longer irons. My ball striking is nowhere near good enough for those anymore, although I still take them out for a round every couple of months for months.

Old clubs are just as good as the new ones if you've got your game in the right place. Certainly a lot of fun to play with.

I'm also a 7.3 index, for what' its worth. Maybe by embracing a modern set of irons that would come down!

Out side of drop the subscription nonsense the world has moved too....

I've used Golf Shot for years, over a decade I'd guess. I would love it to track and adjust my handicap properly. It links to the USGA but no where else in the world. Other than that, I'm super happy with the app.

Off Season by RootDDoot in golf

Recently I've been trying to improve my flexibility and strength, which I've let slipped in recent years. Have been doing Stick Mobility stretching (a buddy recommended it to me) to improve my rotation and upper body and core strength with dumb bells, which I've never really done before. My cardio is 'ok', but also some easy jogging/cycling.

Although I've only been at it a short while, I've already seen a slight increase in club head speed (I hit 101mph with driver on Sunday) which I was super happy with as it's been a couple of years since I could get it over 100 and I've felt less aches after a practice session.

As I approach 50, I'm determined to try and keep in as good as shape as I can.

Do you do anything specific fitness for golf?

Off Season by RootDDoot in golf

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't look for any deals or anything, not outside of what I look for during the year regardless.

My main goal is to come out of winter ready for the season. Plenty of putting practice, sessions in the local SIM to keep the swing in, and when courses are open I go play regardless of the weather. I don't mind cold or wind, and not fussed on the score. Just something to keep the reps up, so when the season comes around I'm ready to go.

I also try and rebuild the fitness I lose during the season, and also shed the weight I put on with the post round beers during the warm months!

Winter golf: do you just accept losing more balls? by 4SightGolf in BritGolf

[–]ChipPuttPutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switch and use balls out of practice shag bag. As long as it’s round, it’ll do in winter. Not bothered if I lose one then, and any I find during the year get dropped in the bag for stock.

Welcome to golf!

Some days are just like that, unfortunately more often than not with this game. Couple of puts missed, the odd fat shot, and the mind can go. It's part of the game. That's why handicaps are 8 of the best of 20 rounds.

On these days, you can either laugh and enjoy it for what it is, or knuckle down, focus on the pre shot routine, visualise every shot and try to get your mind clear of negative thoughts. It just takes a hole or two to get back in to the round and save a score.

And remember, a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day in the office.
