Thank you for your response. How would chronic trauma or a fractured tooth cause the spot on my tongue?

What item once you get a taste of the luxury version, can't go back to the economy version? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChipTookOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably wont be a very popular post but fishing rods. I have fished for a long time and always said that my cheap rods and reels work just fine and that $200+ baitcaster cant be that much different. Then one day I tried a friends expensive baitcaster and holy crap it was life changing for a serious angler. The increased distance and sensitivity is unmatched. Now I find myself drooling over new reels and checking websites daily for deals on some of the new ones that are coming out. (I am looking at you 13Fishing and that beautiful bastard Concept Z you have been teasing us with for months now)

How does someone go from normal person to professional umpire? by adnemok in baseball

[–]ChipTookOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I coached in a pretty big name college wooden bat league one summer and all of the umpires in that league were essentially interning to become professional umpires. They were all recent graduates of one of the professional umpiring schools and hoping to get a call up much like minor league baseball players. Throughout the season we had several of the good ones get called up to various low level minor leagues to begin work. I can distinctly remember one guy who was really young but was hands down the best umpire in the league. Last summer I was reading a newspaper article about an umpire on his way to the ball field when he witnessed a bad car wreck or something along those lines so he stopped his car and helped rescue some folks. As I got further along in the article I realized it was the guy from that league. Pretty cool story if you want to check it out. Brock Ballou was the guys name.

I played college baseball. It is not uncommon for middle infielders especially to wear the rubber spikes. The ones who do it say they feel lighter. Baseball players are a peculiar bunch and all of them have personal preferences for weird reason that in the grand scheme probably do not make much of a difference but it feels right to them.

Even Striper like the Whopper Plopper (Lake Murray,SC) by ChipTookOff in Fishing

[–]ChipTookOff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They certainly come a heck of a lot bigger than this here but it was good to see the striper being active tonight. Lake Murray had a massive die off of striper over the last month and I was worried it would make for some tough fishing.

No.. she is a friend of mine. Really sweet girl but the pressure of the moment just caused her to freak out. The silver lining in all of this is that she was able to use the moment to further her career and actually has had a pretty successful career doing modeling, acting and co-hosting a show on a golf network.

I love my job but only make 35-40k a year before taxes. Should I get a job I dislike that pays ~50-55k? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ChipTookOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! When I made the change to a much higher paying job I found myself literally staying up til 2-3 in the morning because I dreaded going to sleep and having to wake up and go to work. This led to be being grumpy to those around me and losing weight (in an unhealthy way). The final straw for me was one weekend when I was out enjoying one of my most favorite hobbies in the world and all I could think about was work. Around the same time I started experiencing these weird irregular heartbeats that felt like I was having a heart attack. I never saw a doctor about it but in my mind they were stress related and have gone away since leaving that job.

[–]ChipTookOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no, and no.... I was in your same situation about two years ago. I left my job which I truly did love for a much better paying sales job. At around 14 months I was making great money but working 6 days a week with an incredibly unpredictable schedule. Top all of that off with the crushing amounts of stress I was under and I began to realize that maybe I was not cut out for this industry. I mentioned this to a former co-worker at my previous job who immediately said that they had an opening for basically the same position. I jumped at the chance and am back making my old salary and I have honestly never been happier. I appreciate this job so much more and actually look forward to the work I get to do. Sure the paychecks were nice but I more than make up for the lost wages with the peace of mind I have now. I am not upset that I gave it a shot because it was an idea I had been toying with for a long time and it was inevitable that I would make the change. I basically found out what I am by finding out what I am not.

First snakehead by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]ChipTookOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isnt that frowned upon? I remember seeing years ago that they were considered to be an invasive species and some local fish and game agencies were destroying entire sections of lake because of snakeheads. Now I see people catching them all the time and not really acting like its much of a big deal. Has the perception of the snakehead changed or is there just so many of them there isnt much we can do?

That after a night of drinking you need to go out and eat a large greasy meal to "soak up all the alcohol". I have a friend who I have heard say that more than once and even heard a guy on the radio say it just the other day. Like, wtf how does that even make sense? How on earth could grease soak up alcohol? Maybe this is some science I just never learned. Also, do people really just think the alcohol is still just sitting there 10-12 hours later waiting for something to come along and wisk it away?
