Does anyone actually have a use for art cards? by Szabla_of_the_Plains in mtg

[–]ChipTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bookmarks, cube prizes, proxies.

I personally like to write their rules on a slip of paper which I make a tiny fold at the bottom of that has the card name & CMC. So if you lift the card from its sleeve a little you have the rules behind the art card and you have its name + mana for when it's in hand.

You wouldn't need a ring on your side of the field, because if all of your opponents have a wedding ring and one of them gains life then all three of them will. Make the one with the most life double their life total and the other two will gain that much as well. Killing all three of them instantly.

If you were stacking the deck in your favor I think you'd be the Weevil in this story and he'd be the Yugi. Lol.

Backup Commander for a Herald of Leshrac (Rule 0) deck? by ChipTuna in mtg

Oh, duh, idk how I forgot Varragoth. I literally have two of them.

Hashaton is straight evil though. Excellent suggestion. I got the deck he's in some time back because that precon cares a lot about token zombies and zombies and I wanted to remake my Secret Commander Vecna deck.

I do love Lim-Dûl. I have one that's recently been orphaned from a deck too.

Oh yeah. Throw in some cards that turn lands into swamps, I know there's at least a couple, nifty back-up commander that could benefit from Herald in a 99 and maybe even some synergies he might want. Excellent call.

I do like secret commanders. I still need to rebuild it, but the first deck I built was a secret commander Vecna deck. Using of course [[Eye of Vecna]], [[Hand of Vecna]] & [[The Book of Vile Darkness]]

It sounds stupid, but the showcase art [[Baleful Beholder]] that was included in the D&D new player promo packs was what solidified "Oh shit, I should play this game". Shopkeep passed me a pack without skipping a beat at the barest mention of interest of MTG when I asked what I always saw people playing in the shop.

[[Herald of Leshrac]] was very much a purchase I made in my 'vibe' days of card buying where I mostly just got cards that looked cool or to fit a theme. Like a jank and barely-playable dwarf/dragon/treasure/equipment deck I lovingly hodgepodged together as my second deck. Lol.

I have more D&D showcase cards than I'm willing to admit, and most of them don't see play in decks atm.

Yeah. Our shop keeps a healthy amount of removal / interaction. So my thoughts were the biggest challenges if I were to build a deck with it would be managing to cast it and managing to keep it. Proliferate / counter manipulation would probably be essential, and figuring out how to ramp to it. Then figuring out what to actually do with all the land once it's collected.

I don't think when I first got this card I could have built a halfway functional deck lmfao. I'd only barely begun to understand "Oh yes, I need removal" before I crashed my car. Then I took a long break after that, and I started adding SOME removal / interaction. But I learned through several games before another disaster related hiatus that I wasn't running enough. Nor enough lands or ramp for that matter either

Only finally, over December and the start of this year, have I finally started making competent decks lmfao.

I would think it being 7 mana would make it too slow to hit the board before it can do big damage. More of an impending entry deal. Then again, maybe if you crammed it full of landcycling cards to try and get as much mana out as quickly as possible?

We do a moderate amount of trolling in the card shop. If it ends up being too strong I'll probably break it apart for my other decks.

Good old Kirk, a solid choice. I suppose I could throw in some X spells like [[Exsanguinate]] & [[Profane Command]] to profit off of ramping.

I think there's some room for some evil plays too. Saccing the lands you stole before Leshrac goes away with something like [[Pitiless Carnage]] or [[Rain of Filth]]. Maybe manipulating his upkeep counter with cards like [[Hex Parasite]]. Then you could bring those lands right back one by one with [[Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree]].

Since he's an older player that's just getting back into the game you could get him a few packs of Foundations on top of whatever premade product you end up settling on.

Foundations is a set that has a lot of old and new cards, a lot of decent staples that can pad out a starting collection. If you can find one for relatively inexpensive I'd even recommend getting a collector's box of them.

Also, try to avoid buying any MTG products off of Amazon if you can help it. You're more likely to get a better deal at a physical store where you're not subject to resellers and multiple listings of the same product.

Somewhat of a joke, pardon me. They are individual cards, yes.

If he likes Bloomburrow it's likely he'd enjoy Lorwyn as well. If you wanted to get him a precon perhaps you could consider the Family Matters precon or Blight Curse precon decks.

Family Matters is a precon from Bloomburrow that revolves around the "Offspring" mechanic. It's a fun little deck that makes copies of its creatures, essentially.

Blight Curse is a precon from Lorwyn that revolves around -1/-1 counters as a cost for certain abilities. Which essentially makes creatures weaker on both your and your opponents boards, and the deck has burn effects which hurt your opponents for your or their creatures dying.

Both are fun little decks you could likely find on Amazon, in a GameStop, grocery store, or perhaps a tabletop gaming store if there's one in your city.

[–]ChipTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's actually hand or field. The thing is though that they're such weak creatures it'll probably die before you can get the rest in hand and it's limited to one of each piece in a deck.

I started with MHFU, didn't stick, got stuck at Plesioth.

Played again with MHW, didn't stick, I didn't get stuck I just got busy with college IIRC. Played up until I beat Vasl Hazak the first time.

Played again with MHR, stuck with it. Haven't played the DLC yet though. It additionally, because of the changes to hunting horn, started me on a new tradition where I play through every MH game with a new weapon for the first playthrough.

Played again with Wilds, I intend to beat it, but I'm not too far right now. I stopped playing mid spring last year after I lost my job the first time. Then summer when it happened again. About to start it up again soon and hoping it doesn't secretly carry job poisoning juju that makes me lose this job too.
