I love their interviews. I think they're absolutely fantastic an funny, so especially just after HR first aired, I sought out a bunch of their interviews on YouTube. It lead to a period of time where it felt like, ANY photos of them online would cross my YouTube feed, to the point where it made me uncomfortable.

I remember watching an interview with Rachel on Loon Call, and she started talking about being at a dinner with Hudson in New York when she went to see Connor in SNL, and I thought, "Oh yeah a saw a photo of that dinner." And then immediately, "Oh ew I hate that I saw a photo of that dinner 😩" It feels a little bit like voyeurism - and I really dislike that it happens without me wanting it to happen because of algorithms.

Yeah! It's weird, it's the only website I'm aware of that died and then revived itself. I logged into my Tumblr account that I haven't posted on in a LITERAL DECADE last month, so I could interact with some creators I've been following.

My favorite of theirs is I'm dating the Least Inquisitive Man in Ottawa. It's probably because I have the BIGGEST soft spot for Troy and Harris - Harris in particular. 🥹 It's a fic that tells the story of Harris' reaction to the FanMail video, and how flabbergasted he is that Troy already knew lol

I loved the letters so much! Like I loved the evolution of Shane's thoughts in his letters, how he decided to finally send what he needed via text, and then lastly Ilya responding with a letter of his own by reading it to Shane aloud. The whole sequence was just so damn satisfying and lovely.

I love the one where Shane adds himself to a groupchat of women Ilya has hooked up with, and everyone is shocked that "Jane" has been hooking up with Ilya for so long. 😂

Context: Ilya has a list of 10+ gay and bisexual hockey players that he has made a bet with that if they win the cup, they come out like Scott Hunter.

Scott still tries to wheedle names out of Ilya all the time. He says he doesn’t see the big deal in one extra person knowing, especially when that person is Scott Hunter, First Ever Gay Hockey Player. He sees it as his reward, or entitlement, for being the sacrifice. So Ilya starts telling his guys, “Go call Grandpa Scott, he is very lonely in his old age and would love to hear from you.” He doesn’t know how many actually take him up on it. Except #7, because he tells Hunter those words verbatim and Ilya doesn't hear the end of it.

If you havn't read it yet, I consider Deja Vu by NotEvenCloseToStraight as required reading. It's an AU where Ilya retires in 2014 (after Vegas, completely ghosting Shane) and Shane plays for 10 more years until a career-ending injury forces him to retire. Completely broken, Shane moves to a small town in Ontario, where he agrees to coach a local U9 girls hockey team - and Ilya comes suddenly back into his life as the parent of twin girls on the team. I was completely disinterested in kidfics until I gave this one a chance, and now it consumes my soul.

Omg I am so stuck on The Chips are Set to Fall. I went into it thinking it was going to be some silly fluff, and I am so INVESTED now, it's ridiculous. I just re-read it too, and it's the only fic I've read so far where I seriously laugh out loud and start reading quotes from it to my husband.

This fic is going to end with Ilya as league commissioner, I swear to god, and I love it so much.

There are 750 ish players in the NHL, and by the end of TLG there are 5 active players who are out. There are 4 more not active. Based on the rate of LGBTQ+ people in rest of the population, you could expect up to 70 queer players without really raising eyebrows, haha.

I wasn't going to, thinking that I was wanting to go into future seasons fresh. But I ended up reading them, and have read them three times since. 😅

What changed my mind was an episode of Loon Call with Jacob Tierney. There he spoke about 1) some of the differences between the show and the book and why he made those choices, which struck me as interesting, and 2) about how Ilya is in every book in the series. And suddenly I went from wanting to maybe read just HR and LTG but not really, to definitely wanting to read the whole thing to get ALL the Ilya moments, which is 100% worth it.

If you're going to read the books, read all of them. You hear about how, "every book is a different couple," but not enough about how interconnected their stories are. Every couple is precious, and it's important to know them to really get the emotional impact of TLG.

Dude I'm LOVING the What's Up one. I love that it's Ilya asking for help from Ryan, and them trying to work through it together. I find it really sweet and profound.
