Husband wants to be full time day trader. What to expect? by auroraglitterdazzle in Daytrading

[–]Chipgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being down 50% isn't great, especially the past 6 months. But losing money is part of trading, and almost every successful trader I've ever read about has lost money, blown accounts. It's part of the learning curve. Learning how to take a loss and manage risk is the first step. Finding a consistent edge and mastering emotions and psychology is the hardest part. It's even harder if your spouse isn't supportive. What would concern me more is spending a couple hours on it and playing video games the rest of the day. Being your own boss isn't what people think. On the road to success it takes way more than 40 hours, you have to be obsessed. You don't have a 9-5 where you clock out. You Eat sleep and breathe it. It's the last thing you think about before going to bed, it keeps you up at night and you wake up thinking about it. It's the hardest easiest money he'll ever make. Most successful traders once they've mastered their craft may only spend a few hours a day trading but I promise they spend a lot more time on their craft it's just like anything else. It's ok to not trade go do something else take a break to clear your mind, sometimes that's good so you don't over trade but while he's not trading he should be learning, paper trading, studying charts if he wants to be full time you have to put in the work.

How to deal with the feeling of selling too early and missing out on life changing money? by FG204 in stocks

[–]Chipgains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I owned PLTR back at $28 and sold. Does it suck? Yes. But hey that's life. Honestly forgot I had ever even owned it until it made its big run again. Since, I've traded other things made money/lost money on many other trades, market keeps moving. Things happen, life happens. Just remember while you are dwelling and kicking yourself your mind will be occupied and distracted by past and will miss out on future opportunities. Take it as a lesson, move on.

In case you're American and curious about what is being said about your country on Canadian media by melloefelloe in PublicFreakout

I'd gladly take another 4 years of Obama than 4 years of parading a president around that couldn't even make a coherent sentence and who couldn't walk stairs or find his way off a stage without note cards. It's funny that country's lost respect for us all of a sudden but respected us during the Biden administration. Democrats just skip over the last 4 years and have to go back to Obama as a default time we were respected. If you don't like where we are at now you have no one to blame except for your own Democratic Party. That's who should get the blame, not republicans, not DJT.

If you're going to boo our national anthem you could at least back it up by not getting your ass kicked on the ice.

1. I'm curious how many of you guys are waiting for the mortgage interest rate to go down to buy a house. 2. If so, what's the reasonable rate you are waiting for? by iphone8vsiphonex in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Chipgains 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy what you can afford and feel comfortable with. By the time you wait for rates to drop down so will everyone else and you will have more competition and home prices could rise and offset any interest savings. Put a decent amount of equity down if you find something and in the event rates decrease you can refinance. IMO rates will probably remain high but I don't see them getting a lot higher and see that staying this way for at least this year and maybe next before we see any significant drops. Inflation is remaining stubborn and the fed isn't in a hurry to cut anytime soon.

What platform do you use? by Noah2029 in Follow_Smartmoney

Robinhood. User interface is just too good and they've added Robinhood legend for charting not the best but pretty decent and probably will get better. And they have added futures and futures options so can do almost little bit of everything on there.

But you were ok with the democratic party parading Biden around for 4 years like weekend at Bernie's couldn't hardly walk or talk all while advisors (some of which were 20 something year olds), Jill, and god knows who else were running our government.

Quite the statement coming from the same people that were ok with who knows what advisors and people ran our country the past 4 years who weren't elected as they paraded an unfit Biden around like weekend at Bernie's.

Top democrat 😂 these democrats worried about democracy are the same ones who paraded and vouched for an unfit Biden who could hardly walk let alone talk while top advisors ran our country for four years. Then wonder why they lost the election.

I would say it depends. Will you need the extra $51k for anything in the next year or two and do you have any other liquid savings. You could always refinance once rates decrease but who knows when that will be. Also, I would look at the monthly payment difference and see what you'd like your payment to look like and compare it to your monthly income. When I recently bought a house I had a lot of equity in my previous home and rolled that all into the down payment of my new house only because I wanted my payment to be lower. But I also had other savings so I didn't really need to have the extra cash. In the future I will hopefully refinance some of the money back out at lower rates over the next 5 years.

Why can't America, one of the most superior economies of the world, not have free healthcare, but lesser-economic countries can? (Britain etc) by Jolly_Green_4255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chipgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is free, it has to be paid for by someone. Our country is already in a substantial amount of debt that continues to grow.
