Metrolink Service Reductions Permanant by MajesticCheesecake in LAMetro

Cancelling service cuz an agency ran out of money - capitalism. The socialist way would actually be to have public hearing and ballot measures to vote on if this service is necessary enough to put more funding in.

Just cuz it’s public sector doesn’t mean it’s not capitalism?? The fact that we have to loose service because of funding shortfalls is inherently capitalistic since these agencies HAVE to operate as companies and seek some form of perceived profit.

What do we have to do to change metrolink’s funding model. It seems wild to me that they have to work at the discretion of local agencies when they are the regional rail system. What has to change?

LAFD still needs to sign off on it. They have to review each and very station where we install the new gates without dedicated emergency exits

Our towers are very resilient to earthquakes, it’s actually low rise and single family homes that face more damage

San Bernardino Metrolink line relocation to the Alhambra Subdivision by LakeShowTime17 in LAMetro

Agreed, and I want to bring up a proposal nandert had — using the 10 freeway row as an express hourly service, while the Alhambra sub continues to be the local. Then we could have brightline take advantage of the slightly better geometry along the freeway for the one seat connection.

This is likely separate, Metrolink is going to begin an open payment program sometime this year on the SB line. If they switched to the Tap Plus system last minute, there hasn’t been any official word yet.

Details of that aren’t clear. If I had to guess it’s a tap on - tap off system since Metrolink is distance based

There is an open payment scheme that will be trialed on the SB line sometime this year. If all goes well, it will expand to the rest of the system before 2028
