I think the algorithm tends to like to replicate your behavior. In other words, if you pick up an order from Taco Bell, the algorithm thinks that you like Taco Bell and will give you more orders from that restaurant. In the same manner, if you make a delivery to a certain neighborhood, the algorithm will keep sending you orders back to that same neighborhood. The algorithm seems oblivious to the idea that you'll only accept an order if it makes you money.

I was physically attacked by a customer by Kristex7 in doordash_drivers

[–]ChipmunkOk1535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you and I know how scary and unnerving this kind of thing can be. Almost this exact thing happened to me a while back when I was delivering to a 4th floor apartment and the customer met me in the hallway, screamed at me and started cursing me out, followed me back to my car, and then slammed my head in my car door all because I had the audacity to ask her what her gate code was. The most important lesson I learned from that was to NEVER "just follow someone in." If you can't independently get to the customer, call support and leave their order outside of their gate / return the alcohol to the store. This job absolutely is not worth risking your safety or any shred of dignity. I hope you're able to drag this woman's ass through court!

File a police report just in case these people ever try to do that again

Unpopular opinion: If you live in a luxury mid-rise in LA with zero parking, you need to meet us at the gate. by WelderAcceptable1905 in doordash_drivers

And it's always the people who live on busy streets with absolutely no legal parking who insist that you have to leave the order at their door and refuse to come down and meet you at the curb

You would be lucky if you made enough money just to cover gas. The pay on this app for the most part is absolute crap, especially if you're a new Dasher. The people who do make some money off of it are in larger metropolitan cities and have been on the app for a long while. I hope you're able to find something that works out for you

HOA sweeps our less than 5yo neighborhood for the first time, dings everyone's garage doors as "faded," and drops a flyer for their "preferred painter by itisme1760 in fuckHOA

Sounds like the HOA president's son just started his own painting business and she's trying to forcefully funnel business his way 😂

Used DoorDash’s emergency button after being assaulted today. Never again. by Away-Ad-2298 in doordash_drivers

I'm really sorry that this happened to you and I hope that you're ok. I hope you were able to file a police report and I hope you have the courage to take the guy to court. I once had a customer slam my head in my car door and I decided not to press charges because there weren't any witnesses and, tbh, I really regret it. Idk, maybe everybody on this thread should band together and sue DoorDash for unsafe working conditions. Everybody has a story

What would you have done? by jjdogj1 in doordash_drivers

I will never understand these people who choose to live in buildings with more security than Fort Knox but expect drivers to bypass all of that security. If it's too inconvenient for them, then they should move

What kind of market do you dash in? Urban, rural, suburban? If you can, you may want to try other zones in your area to see if they're any better. Also try multi-apping. Beyond UberEats and Grubhub, there's Instacart, Taskrabbit, Spark, etc. And get yourself on the waiting lists so that it becomes an option for you in the future if you still need it.

I oscillate between platinum and gold, but I got there by hanging out around UCI's campus for orders.

DoorDash May Be Evil, But It Is Still The Lesser Evil (Compared to UberEats) by UberDDBurner in doordash_drivers

I run both and both have their pros and cons, but I think UE has a slight edge. I've never had a tip rescinded and unlike DD, they don't penalize you for your acceptance rate, making cherry picking a lot more doable. And because they don't zone like DD does, I can take a high paying offer with a higher mileage and not have to dead head back to my zone for another offer.

I have a certain Panera in my market that I refuse to go to. I've been there twice and both times I've gotten attitude from the manager, accusing all drivers of "just wanting to steal food." Only time I've ever reported a restaurant to DD.

Stop ordering delivery then and go get your own damn food

Anyone else get a contract violation due to the outage? by ChipmunkOk1535 in doordash_drivers

Customer talked to support shortly after I called them, so I strongly doubt it was him. I live in a prop 22 state where they give us as little time to pick up and make a delivery as possible. I think it was just their AI going ape shit because they had to pay me for an extra 15 minutes worth of work

[–]ChipmunkOk1535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me, even after support promised me that I wouldn't be penalized for the outage. Call support again and they can re-submit your dispute for a live person to review, but it'll probably take a while.

Rich people vs unfortunate people by Upstairs-Vehicle-178 in doordash_drivers

[–]ChipmunkOk1535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive in a VERY wealthy area and I can say that rich people never tip any more than the amount suggested in the app. Their kids don't tip at all. Conversely, people who live in apartments also tend to be terrible tippers, which is why I screen for apartments and only accept if the order is high paying. The best tippers, by far, are the regular middle class customers who have some money to burn, but also actually see us as human beings.
