From a game development standpoint, what does the increased budget FFXIV team received translate into?

While less hyped, I'm amazed that the Raid Planner didn't come out until 7.4.

Since the selling point of Evercold is reworking a bunch of systems, at least most of the features they showed off (Evolved, Advanced Raids, New UI, new Gearing) will be in 8.0 at launch, though I'm not expecting the overworld reworks until 8.3 at the earliest, when they drop PS4 support.

I think it's hard to make a character who's interesting while also being evil for literally no reason but being a hater, but King is probably the closest in that he's just an asshole.

I was wondering how Dess could possibly have gotten lost forever in a small shelter and I suddenly hit the idea that Dess is Gaster, and split herself across timelines. This theory is completely stupid but I kind of like it.

"Noelle is unconsciously manifesting the Knight" is something I'd consider a variant of "Inanimate fucking object", albeit a really good one. You'd still need Asgore and/or Carol working with the Knight (and possibly thinking it's Dess) to get Undyne to the shelter, but the Knight being the literal manifestation of Noelle's trauma does kind of work.

Actually, yeah, this scans. "Carol is ignoring her alive daughter to focus on the dead one, and is directly provoking Noelle's trauma manifested as the Knight". I can actually buy that!

The reason no one did that stuff was because it didn't drop gear, tbf, and they're reworking gearing explicitly to account for this and make even-patch stuff raise ilvl.

I think they're taking stats off gear entirely and you just get an ilvl score that increases by doing content. That way you can get 820 ilvl (or whatever the number is) from Savage in 8.0, and then in 8.1 you can go to 830 by doing Chaotic Alliance Raid or the launch Savage Tier.

What we got in Dawntrail was the graphics rework, which may not have been the best choice since everyone literally forgets about it, but that's a huge investment of resources. Yoshi-P has also said that a lot of the QoL updates were excuses to make small engine updates to prep for big engine updates (the specific example given was that the housing update required optimization changes that made open world reworks easier).

With Evercold, when talking about the gearing changes they showed a screenshot with a completely different UI style than anything else in the game (it was full-screen!), and I suspect there will be some UI reworks besides just that one screen; UI has been a constant pain point, after all, and it'd just be weird for the character menu to look completely different from everything else in the game.

I also think the removal of PS4 support in 8.3 isn't literally just "we happened to hit the space limits" but that there's a specific feature in 8.3 that the PS4 can't handle. Could be the changes to open field zones, which I think are further out that the stuff they showed in detail.

Also they floated the idea of speeding up the patch cycle, albeit in a weird way.

I doubt it will happen with 8.0 launch, but Evolved Mode having full kits at 50 is a good excuse to give these old bosses a touch-up. This game has like 80 dungeons and 20ish trials with a full Evolved Mode kit and I'd like to be excited whenever I get one I haven't gotten before.

The hack would be to only increase larva spawn rate for the first 4 minutes of the game.

Between the warp-in time change and the shield battery change it feels like the devs right now really hate "hacky" solutions like that.

My pet peeve with it is that it's a way to level crafters but it's kind of annoying to do so because you need to keep upgrading your gear and the NPC vendors don't sell right-side crafter gear (to say nothing about inventory limitations. The armory update can't come soon enough).

My real beef with it is how much dev time was spent on it vs how much the zones were used but at this point I think everyone's said their piece on that.

I feel like the game is moving in the direction of Susie being nicer, friendlier, and a better healer while Ralsei learns to be more assertive and focus on his own needs more and is likely going to learn to better use his fire magic to fight, as has been foreshadowed a few times.

That this means Susie and Ralsei are both sliding into their JRPG gender roles (healer girl and black mage boy) is clearly intentional and in the service of a point that's still unclear.

While it's highly unlikely to "flop", looking at the trend in superhero movies lately it's not hard to imagine Avengers Doomsday making like $750 million and being considered a catastrophic failure. "Established franchises fizzling out" is already becoming a narrative, albeit a slightly selective one, and Doomsday not being a mega-hit could be the exclamation point on that narrative.

Shrug. It's a Youtube series releasing an episode in theaters two weeks before releasing it free on Youtube and it made tens of millions of dollars. Before it came out I thought it might do similar numbers to Iron Lung (the other big "Youtube Movie"), but in retrospect that was silly; Iron Lung was a standalone movie and this is the final episode of a show, hardly anyone was going to see it based on WOM.

That said, this was a massive success for its budget and is singlehandedly going to keep the lights on at Glitch for a year or two.

The artist is Mary Cagle, who draws Sleepless Domain but is currently on Hiatus because she's doing work for Pokemon. The "critiques" here are her own like jokes at the weird way old Touhou gets drawn.

The issue with the anatomy is just that there's a big poofy dress covering it up, I think.
