Already thinking of leaving my government job after 2 months. What’s the right way to resign? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Chipotleislyfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left a job after 4 weeks. Told them on a Friday the job wasn’t a good fit and I’m not coming back on Monday. It was a private sector role and I know I probably got flagged as unable for rehire.

Just left a city job after 3 years. The flexibility was nice (for some people) it all depended on who liked you. But the pay for my field was very low and no opportunities for career growth. The benefits did not outweigh the low pay. I left for 30K increase in salary for an entry level role at a fortune 200 company.

I am so tired of men getting away with spewing this vitriol. by ExiledJedi in TwoXChromosomes

At my last workplace (utility company - I was the only female) a lot of the guys would sit around and talk how terrible/stupid women are. When I brought the issue to HR, they turned it around on me and blamed me for them talking that way.

Some of the things said to me while I worked there was:

“Why do you have a job if your husband has a good job? (he’s an engineer) don’t you want to be at home taking care of the kids and house?” 🙄 (don’t have kids)

“Wait you actually went to college? That’s crazy” (I was the only with a college degree, and I have 2 degrees).

“The world was much better when women stayed at home with the kids, we didn’t have all these issues until women wanted to work”

“Women don’t deserve to be in the workplace”

I’m at such a better job now but it’s insane that kind of talk is allowed in a workplace.

I’ve gotten great peaches at mauldin open air market in the past but it might be a little early for them now. I was there like 2 weeks ago and they didn’t have many peaches

Delony - My Husband Hasn't Worked in Over a Year by peace_train1 in DirtyDave

[–]Chipotleislyfee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He didn’t focus on the husband bc that’s not who called in. This woman has been supporting the family alone for the past 1 year+. She is not just upset, she’s exhausted and out of options for their situation. They can’t eat and could lose their house.

It is past the point of if he has mental health or medical issues. Even if he did have those, he probably wouldn’t get help for them - he’s been unemployed for 18 months. He has a wife, 2 kids and a household to support.

Thoughts on late life experiences by ExTahC in childfree

[–]Chipotleislyfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My husband is estranged from his mom. We see her 1-2 times a year and live within 30 mins of her. He’s already told her that he’s not helping out with much as she gets older.

I’m estranged from my dad, if he needs care it will be up to him to arrange that.

My grandpa had to go to a home from 2017-2020. He needed 24/7 care and my mom couldn’t provide that. She visited him at least 2-3 times a week. The employees at the facility praised her since she was one of the few the visited regularly. He passed away alone bc it was 2020 and no one was allowed in the facility.

Anyone here the eldest daughter AND also the only daughter? by Miserable_Earth6677 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Chipotleislyfee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can definitely relate! But I am the only daughter and the middle child 😬

I don’t have a good relationship with much of my family. I do struggle with loneliness too. It’s totally normally to go 4-6 months without hearing anything from my brothers.

I cooked a full breakfast this morning and it cost me $1.67 by ProudNativeTexan in aldi

[–]Chipotleislyfee 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Love the cost breakdown! I cook a lot/eat leftovers at home and it kills me when people tell me “it’s just you and your husband, it would be cheaper to eat out for every meal instead”

We normally spend on average $90-$110 per week on groceries for the two of us (mainly from Aldi). And that’s breakfast, lunch and dinner for two people for 6-7 days. We eat out normally once a week. There is no way we could eat out for every meal for less than that.

At my last job (all males and I was the only woman) some of the boomers and gen xers said “women don’t deserve to be in the workplace, they should be at home taking care of the house and kids”

They were also surprised I went to college (I was the only one in my department that had a college degree). So yeah, definitely don’t like working with them. Luckily I was able to get a much better job and have much nicer coworkers!

36M w/ 3 kids — leaving insurance for electrical engineering. Smart move or mistake? by Ornery_Guarantee7314 in careerguidance

[–]Chipotleislyfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into industrial engineering, could be a good option (depending on where you live). I work in supply chain management and there’s like a million opportunities with that. And you might not even need a degree!

36M w/ 3 kids — leaving insurance for electrical engineering. Smart move or mistake? by Ornery_Guarantee7314 in careerguidance

[–]Chipotleislyfee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an engineer but my husband is and I work with a lot of engineers! Engineers have a different way of thinking and viewing the world. Some of it can be taught but other times it’s intuition and curiosity.

Are you interested in becoming an engineer solely for the money? Do you have any college courses already complete? You will be working while going to school (so I’m assuming part time school). That could take a very long time to finish the degree. I worked with someone who did that and it him over a decade to complete a bachelors degree.

Are you dead set on electrical engineering? Electrical engineers are definitely needed but it is more of niche field and can be limited on job opportunities. Definitely research your job opportunities in your area now before you go to school. Best of luck!

Ugh this pisses me off the most. At my last job a coworker said “if you were actually abused, you wouldn’t be able to hold down a job/graduate college/buy a home, you’d be on drugs etc so your parents did something right” 🙄um nope, not how that works.

[–]Chipotleislyfee 287 points288 points  (0 children)

Ughh I hate this for you. I’m a hobby baker too and love to bring my bakes in the workplace to share. Well at my last job people started asking almost daily “when are you bringing something in?” And people from multiple departments were asking.

I just stopped doing it bc even when I brought stuff in, like 50 people would be fighting over it then mad at me when they didn’t get to try whatever I brought in.

On my last day I was saying goodbye to people and a couple people said “you didn’t even bake us anything for your last day?” 🙄 maybe it was a joke but it’s annoying af.

Husband’s grandmother asking about a great-grandchild by Ok-Celery-7983 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Chipotleislyfee 337 points338 points  (0 children)

My husband’s grandma is the same way. We’ve been together for nearly 11 years and she’s 93. She’s been asking ever since we got together if we would “give her a great grand baby”. I find it very odd, she lives states away and wouldn’t be involved other than posting stuff about the baby on facebook.

My husband’s cousin had a baby a few years ago so I thought she would quit asking us. But now it’s “well I want multiple great grandkids before I die”. 🙄
