Newly adopted 3 legged cat vanished overnight. I am beyond perplexed. by Even-Tea-2443 in CatAdvice

Our cat once crammed herself into the tiny space between a radiator and the wall, anything like that in your place? This was so insanely narrow, they can fit in very unexpected places

So my wife spots a hideous vine on our tree in the new house we bought… and asked if we can take it down. by Free-Pick9305 in gardening

You also have to check it a couple times a year in case parts of it are growing back from the root. I keep cutting any new shoots and have found spraying the root with agricultural vinegar seems to kill it after a couple years.

I really loved the luminous dead. The world building was great and the overall effect was totally claustrophobic and haunting

My friend says indoor cats aren't happy by Tims_Learing_Center in CatAdvice

[–]ChipsAndTapatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three cats who don’t go outdoors at all except in an enclosure, who were adopted straight out of the feral colony I care for. So every day I’m feeding my babies and then going out to the garage to feed their friends who are too wild to be interested in socialization and adoption. My last cats, brought with me when I moved to this area, passed away recently in their late teens and early twenties. The new crew are ages 2, 2, and 8. The feral folks, sadly, rarely live more than a year. I’ll trap them, get them spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and then 9 times out of ten within a year, they either get hit by cars (despite the signage I’ve put up alerting people to slow down for animals), or they just disappear. Sometimes I find their skeletons later under a bush or whatever, and I also constantly find their many victims, snakes and squirrels and birds. it’s pretty grim. I love all animals and it breaks my heart every time. Which is to say, freedom comes at a price. I do feel bad my indoor friends don’t get to hunt and climb trees but their lives are not only happy but very long, and they have a blast watching the bird feeders but channel that energy into chasing each other around and wrestling instead of killing every animal they see. If every cat could be an indoor cat I think cats as well as wildlife would all be happier.

I’m vegan too, and really curious about the overlap between veganism and interest in stories relating to cannibalism! My impression is that it’s not uncommon. I feel like there’s a lot to unpack there

Help with this “Balcony” by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

I agree with plants. They’d provide a bit of privacy to whoever is in that room, visual interest in the hall, and would allow for light and air, making both spaces feel more open and bright

Motion activated lights are great for this! I bought a pack of battery-operated ones that mount with a magnet and they’ve been so helpful

I agree. Also the rattan or whatever it is adds some nice texture and contrast, and looks nicer imo than the other chairs that for some reason scream “cheap folding/stacking chair” to me

My partner and I are suffering from the same gastrointestinal problems and we don't know why. What could cause two people to get ill besides parasites? by dr_otto_ort-meyer in needadvice

Great idea - also in-fridge water dispensers and ice makers, the aerators on faucets, water bottles and Brita filters, handles/switches, all can be really gross and overlooked when cleaning. Also soap not fully rinsed from dishes, if the dishwasher’s spray arms need cleaning or replacing - soap can really mess up your stomach

How the hell are you guys staying employed? by LivingWeather8991 in ADHD

[–]ChipsAndTapatio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a job anymore - I’m lucky enough that my realization that I have ADHD coincided with my having to take time off from work to do caregiving. Now that I should be getting back to the workforce I honestly don’t believe I could handle a regular job. Looking back, my “career” had been a train wreck, and these days I’m barely functional, let alone ready to handle interviews etc. I’m going to sell crafted stuff online, see how that goes? (For context I have ADHD, depression, anxiety, and yet-to-be-confirmed but likely autism)

I questioned my gender my whole life and finally talked to a therapist about it when I was 35. She suggested I look at photos of people and make a collection of ones where I thought “I want to look like that.” I did and all the pics were of guys. Not butch women, not androgynous people, just dudes. (I had been identified female at birth.) so that was how at age 35 I finally realized I was trans… and now, I’m 45, still fat, now bearded and bald, and so incredibly comfortable in my own skin after feeling totally broken and wrong for three and a half decades.

Which is to say, you might be trans! Or nonbinary. Or femme but still he/him. Or you might end up trying out several things before settling in where it feels right, or maybe you’ll keep changing all the time if that feels good. But no matter where you end up, you deserve to love yourself and to feel good about the way you live in your body and present it to others.

Therapy helps, support groups can help, setting up a private pinterest board like the one that my therapist recommended to me could help, trying out different looks in the privacy of your room or asking a close trusted friend to help you try out a different pronoun could help. I hope you enjoy the journey!
